An aircraft chartered by coalition forces in Afghanistan, en route from Bagram air base to Dubai, landed Friday in Bandar Abbas, Iran, after Iranian officials questioned its flight plan, U.S. officials said.
The plane had been contacted by Iranian air traffic controllers, who instructed it to return to Afghanistan and file the correct plan. When the pilots informed the Iranians they did not have enough fuel to return to Bagram, they were asked to land.
One official said Iranian fighter jets had escorted the plane, which was carrying approximately 100 Americans and possibly a pair of Canadians, to the ground. Other officials denied that, and said the plane landed on its own. It was expected to resume its flight quickly.
The plane was chartered from Fly Dubai, a company based in the United Arab Emirates.
A spokeswoman for the UAE Embassy in Washington said she was aware of the incident but did not have additional information.

American jet with 100 military contractors on board forced to land inside Iran
posted at 4:41 pm on September 5, 2014 by Noah Rothman
A jet carrying about 100 American military contractors were asked by Iranian air force fighter jets to land in Southern Iran on Friday.
The U.S. charter aircraft with 100 U.S. military contractors and possibly two Canadians was leaving Afghanistan when it was intercepted and requested to land in the southern Iranian city of Bandar Abbas.
“The plane, which departed Bagram air base on Friday, was chartered by the Pentagon from Fly Dubai, an airliner based in the United Arab Emirates,” The Washington Post reported.
U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the cause of the incident was related to the plane’s flight plan and expressed confidence the situation would to be resolved quickly.
The forcible interception of a military plane does not sound like an easily resolved situation, but officials are telling reporters that the incident is relatively harmless.
CNN reported on Friday that Iranian air forces said that the plane was abiding by an out of date flight plan and they should change course. When the charter plane replied that they did not have enough fuel to abide by this request, they was escorted by Iranian fighter jets to an airstrip in Iran.
This situation is likely to be resolved soon. But with crises proliferating around the globe, and the memories of an American hostage crisis in Iran fresh for many, no one is taking any chances.

The American MSM are liars. They always report what the 'want' to be true instead of the actual truth. You cannot believe anything they say.
The only way we will know what is really happening with this is to read the Canadians or the Brits. They usually report plain and true instead of the fluffy spin you will get in the American press.

Read an update that the plane is on its way to Dubai.

Considering we're going to be doing joint operations with these guys soon, this smells like a cover story.

Nice take...but why would they NEED a cover story.
The public was never informed while Obama took his time providing air-cover in Libya. Or selling/transferring arms in Benghazi. Or what the hell we were actually doing in Syria and Afghanistan. The list goes on and on with this administration.

My first thought was that Iran was still under sanctions (correct?) and we can't actually fly there and conduct business officially, so hence the forced landing story. Knowing that Obama doesn't care about the law, the real reason is he probably doesn't want his Sunni brothers see him getting too cozy with Shiites.

Sounds plausible.

Agreed! Also, it could have been a 'touch and go' landing to drop off or pick up. Heck...does anybody know where Valerie Jarrett is right now?

I'd like to know the count of how many landed in Iran, and how many flew on to Dubai.

Yep. Just because the plane left, doesn't mean the passengers - all of them - did.

It would have been nice if she had been on one of two Malaysian Air flights. :silly:
