A South Carolina man is facing up to 15 years in jail for pretending to be a veteran and obtaining veteran disability benefits, according to the Washington Times.

Steven Mickey Bunker, 47, from Aynor, S.C., collected more than $150,000 in disability benefits saying he was incapacitated due to combat injuries.

The VA also gave Mr. Bunker $40,000 to purchase a special vehicle that could be driven by someone without the use of their legs, which he promptly traded for a Hummer instead, prosecutors said.

His story caught the attention of federal officials after the Myrtle Beach Sun News wrote a story on Mr. Bunker and then received multiple complaints that Mr. Bunker was not telling the truth.

Mr. Bunker is also facing several other charges, including the fact that he didn’t register as a sex offender after committing or attempting to commit a lewd act with a 16-year-old; and lied about prior felony convictions in order to purchase guns.

How much real money did Elizabeth Warren get in preferential treatment by pretending to be a Native American?   :nometalk:

Better idea. Make him pay restitution. I think a 5 year hitch in an FOB in Afghanistan might be appropriate. If you want to be generous, actually give him a rifle.

How 'bout we compromise. FOB, no rifle. But we give him a ham sandwich, and his choice of "Village People" uniform.

I am sorry - I can not be party to such a cruel and unusual punishment.

Make it a bacon sandwich.
