Parents try to get tuition refunds and threaten to pull donations in backlash to anti-Israel protests

Pro-Palestinian protests continue to rock colleges in the United States, and administrators are starting to hear from more than just the students.

Parents paying for their children to attend elite institutions are getting fed up with universities making it easier for students to spend more time at demonstrations and bystanders getting locked out of their dorms.

As classes and finals get canceled and students are forced to avoid their own campuses, parents have resorted to contacting their schools for refunds and have reconsidered their positions as donors to colleges.

“They are not getting the education they expected and paid for,” Zev Gewurz, a lawyer whose daughter goes to Barnard College in New York City, told the Wall Street Journal.

Barnard is a prime example of a costly education. The university costs about $90,000 to attend this academic year, more than what many families make in a year.

According to a 2023 Sallie Mae report, typical families need parents to account for about half of their students’ college tuition. Students account for less than a quarter.

Henry Cuellar proclaims innocence ahead of reported DOJ indictment

.

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) is insisting he is innocent after reports that the Justice Department may announce an indictment of the representative as soon as Friday.

Cuellar said in a statement that he and his wife are innocent and that “everything I have done in Congress has been to serve the people of South Texas.”

“Before I took any action, I proactively sought legal advice from the House Ethics Committee, who gave me more than one written opinion, along with an additional opinion from a national law firm,” the Texas Democrat said. “The actions I took in Congress were consistent with the actions of many of my colleagues and in the interest of the American people.

“These allegations have been difficult on my family,” Cuellar continued. “But, with your prayers, we will overcome.”

Cuellar noted that he is still running for reelection in November and “will win.”

NBC News reported Friday morning that the DOJ was preparing to announce an indictment of Cuellar. According to the outlet, his staff members were calling other Congress members’ offices on Friday seeking advice on how to handle the situation.

Allegations against Cuellar began circulating in 2022, when his home and campaign offices in Laredo, Texas, were raided in January that year as part of the DOJ’s investigation into Azerbaijan and businessmen connected to the nation. It is unclear if Friday’s possible indictment is related to the 2022 raid. In April of that year, Cuellar’s lawyer told several news outlets that the congressman was informed he was not the target of the investigation.

Nikki Haley is more conservative than Tulsi Gabbard.

And still is the most left leaning (minus Christie) of the entire 2024 GOP POTUS field.  Calling Haley a conservative is laughable.

Anticipating Trumpers to go scorched earth on Hope Hicks.

In trump's defense, we are 11 days in, and I can't discern one law that has been broken.  There needs to be some scorched earth, cut them off at the knees with Bragg and James on this one.

I am hardly a Trump defender, but this bullshit should get some prosecutor doing some jail time themselves.

Donald Trump Pledges to Protect American Workers, Slams Biden’s Weak Jobs Report

Wendell Husebø 3 May 2024

Former President Donald Trump ripped President Joe Biden for Friday’s weaker than expected jobs report and promised new economic policies that protect American workers.

The economy is the number one issue in 2024, according to CNN. About half of voters in swing states Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan believe the economy got worse under Biden’s management, a CBS News poll found Sunday.

Before heading into a Manhattan courtroom for his “rigged” criminal trial on Friday, Trump outlined policies to fix Biden’s economy, which is plagued with sticky inflation and soaring costs — nearly 20 percent higher than when Trump left office.

A Big Mac burger with a medium beverage and a medium order of fries costs $18 in some locations, up $10 from 2018 when Trump was president.

“My plan for jobs it to drill, baby, drill to bring energy down; to close up the border; to get rid of all the criminals that are being allowed into our country,” Trump told reporters.

Biden’s jobs report found American businesses added 175,000 workers, which is below expectations. “Economists had forecast payrolls would grow by 240,000 and the unemployment rate would hold steady at the prior month’s 3.8 percent,” Breitbart News’ John Carney reported.

Move over California and New York, a new state is in contention for the 'most dysfunctional' in America.

Illinois is grappling with a string of issues which have triggered a rise in residents departing the state.

The state has struggled to add jobs and its public pension debt has ballooned to nearly $150 billion. Meanwhile, its population has declined, hurting tax income.

Conservative thinktanks have now grouped Illinois with other blue states like New York and California, which have also faced an exodus amid issues ranging from immigration to crime.

Kansas Bill to Ban Transgender Medical Procedures for Minors Fails

Alana Mastrangelo 3 May 2024

A proposed Kansas bill seeking to ban transgender-related medical procedures for minors failed on Monday after two Republicans switched their votes, stopping the Republican-controlled legislature from overriding Gov. Laura Kelly’s (D) veto of the initiative.

The Kansas House voted 82 to 43 to overturn Kelly’s veto of the bill, leaving supporters of the legislation two votes short of obtaining the necessary two-thirds majority, according to the Associated Press.

On Monday, the Kansas Senate voted 27 to 13 to override the governor’s veto, resulting in the exact margin supporters needed.

The legislation would have reportedly banned transgender-related surgeries for minors, as well as puberty blockers and hormone treatments.

Additionally, the bill would have barred state employees who work with children from promoting social transitioning for kids who question their biological sex.
