Even though more than half its population is fully vaccinated, coronavirus cases are soaring in Mongolia, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

The Asian country reported 1,312 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, bringing its total infections to almost 70,000, almost all of which have occurred since January.

The New York Times data base shows that daily infections in Mongolia have risen more than 70% in the last two weeks.

Mongolia is one of the few developing countries that arranged for enough doses of the vaccine for its population, having signed agreements for 4.3 million doses of China’s Sinopharm vaccine and one million doses of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine (of which only 60,000 of the latter have so far arrived.)

This puts the focus on concern about the effectiveness of the Sinopharm vaccine, which uses inactivated coronaviruses to trigger an immune response in the body and has been demonstrated in studies to be less effective than the vaccines developed by Pfizer and Moderna, which use newer mRNA technology, according to The New York Times.

I doubt that solid proof will ever be had, between Chinese government opacity and US MSM reluctance to PO the Chinese government, but there is growing circumstantial evidence from the records of countries that have relied on Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines that those vaccines, perhaps due to the vaccines' use of traditional inactivated virus technology, are not very effective with variants not in circulation when the vaccines were developed.

What could possibly go wrong?

The warning that I've received, you might take it with however many grains of salt you wish, that the Sinopharm  that is circulating around is not specifically too good. It is suggested that you stay away from that. But it's your own trip, be my guest.

What could possibly go wrong?

The main problem is the Sinopharm vaccine which is less than 75% effective.  Sputnik V is better than Johnson & Johnson and only slightly less good than Moderna or Pfizer.

Of course, we also haven't had any word on how effective any of the non-Western vaccines are against variants.

Speaking of the Chinese vaccine, here's an interesting statement:
Quote
... On February 24th, 2020, Dr. Zhou Yusen, a Chinese immunologist whose research had previously been funded by NIH grants to study vaccines for SARS, filed a patent on behalf of the Chinese PLA (People’s Liberation Army), for a new vaccine for SARS-CoV-2. For reference, this vaccine and its formula were developed and patented before the first recorded US death of COVID-19.

Yes, you read that correctly. Before we even had one death in the US from COVID-19, the Chinese government had developed and likely tested a viable COVID-19 vaccine and hid that development from the world. Oh, and Dr. Zhou?  He ended up dead from mysterious causes just a few weeks later. ...

The first U.S. death known to be from COVID-19 occurred on Feb. 6 — nearly three weeks before deaths in Washington state that had been believed to be the country's first from the coronavirus, according to officials in Santa Clara County, Calif. The person died at home and at a time when testing in the U.S. was tightly limited not only by capacity but by federal criteria.

The person is one of three people posthumously identified as dying from COVID-19 in Santa Clara County, after the medical examiner-coroner carried out autopsies and sent samples to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The other two deaths took place on Feb. 17 and March 6.

*****rollingeyes***** Moderna had developed their vaccine on January 13, 2020 and submitted a request to begin testing with human participants on February 24, 2020. Testing began on March 16th.

By way of contrast, Sinovac and Sinopharm began human testing of their vaccines on or around April 14, 2020, https://www.sinopharm.com/en/s/1395-4689-38077.html . Other than China's general deceptions about the virus, the timings don't work for anything tinfoil hat grade.
