Massachusetts state and municipal budgets and finances are about to implode.

The best thing that happened to Massachusetts Republicans in the 1990s was Michael Stanley Dukakis running for President in 1988.

Bill Weld (Republican at the time) was elected Governor in 1990.  For a couple of terms, Massachusetts had a couple of Republican House Reps in DC.

The cost of living in untenable.  Those who can't leave will stage a tax revolt.

Gov. Greg Abbott orders Texas to ignore Biden administration’s new federal protections of LGBTQ+ students

The Texas Tribune by Sneha Dey April 29, 2024

The new Title IX rules expanded the definition of sex-based harassment. Texas is also suing the Biden administration to block the changes.

Gov. Greg Abbott ordered the Texas Education Agency on Monday to ignore a Biden administration rule that expanded federal sex discrimination protections to include LGBTQ+ students.

The Biden administration recently revised the rules for Title IX, the sweeping civil rights law that prohibits sex-based discrimination at federally funded colleges and K-12 schools. The new rules, which are set to go into effect in August, redefined sex discrimination and sex-based harassment to prevent misconduct based on sex stereotypes, pregnancy, gender identity and sexual orientation. It codifies initial guidance documents that prompted Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to sue the Biden administration last year.

"Congress wrote Title IX to protect women. Biden, with no authority to do so, rewrote Title IX to protect men who identify as women," Abbott wrote Monday on social media platform X.

Abbott's order came the same day Paxton announced he had sued the Biden administration Monday to block the Title IX changes. Texas joins a growing number of Republican-led states that have berated the new rules, setting the stage for a legal fight over LGBTQ+ student protections. They say the Biden administration misinterpreted the intent of Title IX.

Let's see .... in 4 years DeSantis will be 49 and Trump will be 81. Just sayin'   DeSantis isn't afraid of Trump....DeSantis could have easily turned the tables on Trump due to his age and becoming unhinged, but he's much wiser and smarter than that.

Agree DeSantis isn't afraid of Trump @libertybele  With time he may have gotten away with turning the tables on Trump's age and becoming "unhinged" --- which he did.  Where DeSantis was less than "wise" and pretty damn stupid is he also went after Trump's supporters.  These are the people Ron's afraid of ---- their memories are long and in 2028, Ron will be one of many and most will not have been unemployed for two years.

Ron needs to get right with the millions of "listless vessels" he lost in 2024.  Like it or not, his national viability depends on it.  Ron's also taken quite a bit of heat for being the former candidate not actively campaigning for Trump.  His tepid endorsement just isn't good enough to rebuild for 2028.

Many of Ron's mega donors want a Trump victory in November.  They set this meeting in motion, on behalf of Ron, to strike two birds with one meeting.  It helps Ron move beyond the passive-agressive hole he's stuck in --- and advances a unified effort to elect Trump.

So, take this message to heart:  It is time to unify behind Trump for victory against Biden. Hopefully, DeSantis will, too.

Why Krugman has any credibility anymore is beyond me

Actually, the request coming from DeSantis isn't speculation.  Apparently, Ronny has come to appreciate the magnitude of the mistake he made this year and understands what he needs to do.

Apparently, that's what you're speculating.

Ah, so the goal posts have now been shifted.  Before this, you were talking of unrealized (i.e. imaginary) capital gains.  But now you switched to take home pay?  In that regard, I can guaran-damn-tee you that Bezos paid more than 40%.

No, I said the 44% only pertains to capital gains of people making 1 million dollars or more of taxable income. Someone else said many small business bring in this amount and I reclarified it was not gross receipts of a small business but based upon actual take home taxable pay for an individual.

I never mentioned capital gains. I said all along this 44% will turn out to be a nothing burger-and wait until all the details come out...and I was right.  Forbes article today said there  are so many asterisks and caveats/exemptions on the proposal very few will be subject to it.

More doom and gloom by rw bloggers and such making money off of gullible people...Michelle Malkin warned of these false people. Many not even conservative but they know maga will fork over their dollars .

Show me a link where Bezos is paying 40%  because there are plenty showing these top billionaires are not paying anything close.

Legal Insurrection by Mary Chastain Monday, April 29, 2024

Idaho, Mississippi, and Montana joined the lawsuit.

Louisiana filed a lawsuit against President Joe Biden over clarifications that Title IX allows men in female sports and spaces.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said: “This is all for a political agenda, ignoring significant safety concerns for young women students in pre-schools, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities across Louisiana and the entire country. These schools now have to change the way they behave and the way they speak, and whether they can have private spaces for little girls or women. It is enormously invasive, and it is much more than a suggestion; it is a mandate that well exceeds their statutory authority. This all coming from the people who don’t even know how to define the word ‘woman.’ I’ll always stand up for children and families across this state.”

Idaho, Mississippi, and Montana joined the lawsuit.

“For 50 years Title IX has protected girls and women’s rights, but President Biden has abandoned those protections to appease the woke left,” stated Montana Attorney General Knudsen. “This rule is not based in scientific reality. It redefines biological sex which will allow men to compete in women’s sports, violate women’s privacy, and put women and girls in dangerous situations on campus. I will continue to fight to protect women and uphold Montana’s laws against federal overreach.”

The Final Rule is 89 FR 33474 – Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Financial Assistance.

The Department clarified “sex-based harassment” to include discrimination against “sex stereotypes, sex characteristics, pregnancy or related conditions, sexual orientation, and gender identity.”

“In addition, the Rule subverts Title IX’s purpose and will particularly harm the precise population that Title IX was meant to help most – women and girls, who will now face increased threats to privacy and safety, not to mention will lose spots on sports teams and podiums,” wrote the plaintiffs.

The Department of Education refused to provide a narrow definition of “sex” “to avoid overbroad application of a prohibition on discrimination based on sex stereotypes.”

Attorney General Ken Paxton Sues Biden Administration Over Title IX Rewrite

Texas Scorecard by  Emily Medeiros   | April 29, 2024

The lawsuit claims the new rule is an infringement on Texas’ sovereignty.

Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing the Biden administration after they rolled out a rewrite of Title IX, drastically changing the rules to protect biological men in women’s spaces.

Earlier this month, the Biden administration released a nearly 1,500-page rewrite of Title IX rules—the federal civil rights law designed to prohibit sex-based discrimination in education.

The new version would add “gender identity” as a protected class. It would also force schools to allow biological males to use female spaces. If a school refuses to comply, federal funding would be withheld.

With Biden’s new rule, the Department of Education is now turning to formally amend the Code of Federal Regulations, which Paxton says “violates federal law, ignores the constitution, and denies women the protections Title IX was intended to afford them.”

Unless the court blocks the Final Rule, it will take effect on August 1, 2024.
