Trump 'looks exactly like he does on TV': dismissed juror
By Priscilla DeGregory

A woman who was dismissed from jury selection at the trial against Donald Trump Tuesday said the former president "looks exactly like he does on TV."

Kara McGee was let go because of a conflict in her schedule at work in cybersecurity.

Excused juror Kara McGee speaks to reporters on her way out of court in Manhattan on Tuesday.

"I don’t like him," she said of the former commander-in-chief.AP

Outside court, McGee said she "hilariously" thought the presumptive Republican presidential nominee "looks exactly like he does on TV" after making eye contact with him when she raised the issue of her schedule.

"I don’t like him," she said to CNN of the former commander-in-chief. "I don’t approve of what he did as president, but the right to a fair trial is extremely important."

She said while she realized the trial is an important milestone in history, she also realized Trump is "just a dude," the outlet reported.

The F-35 program is costing more and doing less, GAO says
Total sustainment costs are now expected to top $1.5 trillion, even as the jet’s mission-readiness declines.

The estimated lifetime cost to operate and maintain the Pentagon’s F-35s just took a big jump, even though the U.S. military is flying the jet less.

The total cost of operating and maintaining the triservice jet is now expected to surpass $1.5 trillion, up 44% since a 2018 estimate, according to a new report from the Government Accountability Office. The increase largely reflects the military’s decision to push the aircraft’s retirement from 2077 to 2088, but also includes other factors that are driving costs up.

The Defense Department has tried to reduce costs on the program, but “DOD officials generally agree that these efforts are not likely to fundamentally change the estimated costs to operate the aircraft,” the report said.

GAO also notes that the Pentagon plans to fly the F-35 fighter jet less often than originally planned, due partly to “reliability issues,” GAO said, which have contributed to a five-year decline in readiness.

What's the worst that could happen when the US Constitution prevents Trump from having a 3rd term?  It's not like Trump would do something "wild" to stay in office for a 3rd Term.

Why do Putin, Xi, and Rocket Man get to stay in office for life, but Trump doesn't?  That's not fair.

HSI Baltimore investigation lands Maryland MS-13 member 24 years in federal prison for his role in racketeering conspiracy

Conspirator took part in the murder of a suspected gang rival in Silver Spring
BALTIMORE — An investigation conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Baltimore, FBI Baltimore and the Montgomery County Police Department resulted in a 24-year federal prison sentence for a Maryland MS-13 gang member for his role in a racketeering conspiracy. Jose Lainez-Martinez, 29, a Salvadoran national residing in Silver Spring, received the 24-year prison sentence March 26 after pleading guilty to his participation in a racketeering conspiracy, which included a murder, related to his activities as part of the MS-13 gang. Lainez-Martinez’s prison sentence will be followed by five years of supervised release.

“The acts of Jose Lainez-Martinez and other members of this violent transnational criminal organization led to the tragic loss of a young man’s life,” said HSI Baltimore Special Agent in Charge James C. Harris. “Hopefully, this prison sentence will deter others who engage in fraud and terror as a way of life.”

According to the investigation, from at least January 2020, Lainez-Martinez was a member or associate of the MS-13 Fulton Locos Salvatruchas clique and agreed with members of MS-13 to conduct and participate in the gang’s affairs through a pattern of racketeering activity that included murder, conspiracy to commit murder, extortion and drug distribution. Lainez-Martinez admitted that to help the gang to raise money, he sold marijuana and collected extortion money from brothels and other businesses, providing the proceeds to gang leadership.

Joe Biden’s Wars
I & I Editorial Board
April 16, 2024

It’s long been known around Washington, as former Defense Secretary Robert Gates once said, that Joe Biden “has been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four” – now five – “decades.”

So the conflicts raging around the world and forecasts of World War III should have been expected.

But, hey, at least we didn’t elect in 2020 the guy who sent impetuous tweets that upset elites and snowflakes.

As president, Biden has projected American weakness in a Carter-esque fashion, starting with his chaotic and deadly withdrawal from Afghanistan, which a State Department report said suffered from “constantly changing policy guidance,” and a top general described as a “strategic failure.”

He’s been no Ronald Reagan. He’s not even been a Donald Trump. So it’s no coincidence that Russia invaded Ukraine a little more than two years after Biden took office. And we all knew it was coming, because three months after Biden stumbled into the Oval Office, Russian strongman Vladimir Putin, as Sen. Tom Cotton noted just before the invasion, “sent tens of thousands of soldiers, tanks, and munitions to the Ukrainian border.”

Tribal Leaders Seek Help to Oust Mexican Drug Cartels

By Jessica M. Vaughan on April 16, 2024

On April 10, I joined three tribal leaders at a hearing held by the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources to examine the threat to Indian Country communities posed by foreign drug cartels. Those leaders expressed alarm at how Mexican drug cartels have rapidly established a foothold on drug trafficking and other criminal activities in their communities, and they literally braved death threats to appear at the hearing.

Representatives of two tribes in Montana and one from Arizona implored Congress and federal agencies to prioritize the well-being of the citizens in Indian Country by securing the border and providing resources to help them eradicate the cartels. Said Jeffrey Stiffarm, president of the Fort Belknap Indian Community: “It seems like [the feds] are more concerned about the immigrants coming across the border than concerned about what they’re doing here once they get here ... and to me more importantly, the first people of this country they’re coming into."

The Sinaloa cartel in particular has targeted several Indian reservations in northern Montana, including Blackfeet, Rocky Boy’s, Fort Belknap, and Fort Peck, for expansion of their drug-trafficking enterprise. They are attracted primarily by the opportunity of huge profit margins, as fentanyl pills can be sold for as much as $100, compared to three to five dollars in urban areas of the country. Other factors that work in the cartels' favor are the remote geography, relative scarcity of law enforcement, and jurisdictional complications between tribal police and local and federal authorities.

There’s Nothing Safe about Michigan’s Drive Safe Act for Illegal Aliens
April 11, 2024

the foundation of Michigan’s economy has been the automotive assembly line which has employed millions over the years and given rise to Detroit’s “Motor City” moniker. Making large quantities of goods quickly and putting people behind the wheel is what the state does best. Perhaps then, it’s not surprising that some Michigan lawmakers are envisioning another item for mass production. Only this time, it won’t be cars on conveyer belts conforming to strict safety standards, rather large-scale manufacturing of driver’s licenses for illegal aliens.

The proposed legislation would allow all Michigan residents to obtain state identification cards or driver’s licenses regardless of their immigration status, joining 19 states and Washington, D. C., that already do so. The bill, euphemistically labeled The Drive SAFE Act (Safety, Access, Freedom, and the Economy), alludes to such soaring attributes, one might presume Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness were excluded from the title only because the acronym would be nonsensically extended.

Rep. Rachel Hood, D-Grand Rapids, a primary sponsor of the legislation, deceptively claims 700,000 Michigan “immigrants” will benefit, conflating legal immigrants and illegal aliens, thereby inflating the numbers to enhance the urgency of passage. FAIR’s research reveals roughly 200,000 illegal aliens reside in Michigan.
