This idea came up in the Obituaries thread the other day, because it was noticed obits of writers spur a log of discussion.
So, @mystery-ak and I discussed it, and we want to put it to a vote of our Guess and Members to decide. The options are:
1) Yes! Let's have a new Category in Entertainment so we can have discussion threads by Author or Genre!
2) Let's have a pinned thread, like "What are you reading today?"
3) No, it's fine the way it is. We're good.
4) "The Weed Option."
What say all y'all?
:hattip: @jafo2010!
Bonus question for the comments below: Who should Moderate it? Volunteers? Volunteer somebody else?

I love this idea! Yes yes yes.
I just wish @Cyber Liberty you had the two vote option. You always need a two vote option if there’s a @corbe answer.
Just sayin. :thud: 333cleo :seeya:

Done!
Yay! I just voted!

I voted for the "What are you reading today" option.
I just finished Sidney Powell's Licensed to Lie and recommend it highly but be careful as it will likely remove any faith you may have remaining in our feral justice system.

Isn't reading wrong on a political level? It may be racist.

Precisely.

I voted yes for a new category -- we will need something to discuss other than the Biden/Harris socialist administration continuing to destroy our Republic.
...and of course also voted for @corbe category

I'm all for it.
Especially since I've just read these books:
Twilight of Democracy: The Seductive Lure of Authoritarianism (Anne Applebaum)
Dewey Defeats Truman: The 1948 Election and the Battle for America's Soul (A.J. Baime)
A Cry from the Far Middle (P.J. O'Rourke)
Bouton: The Life of a Baseball Original (Mitchell Nathanson)
A Fan's Guide to Baseball Analytics (Anthony Castrovince)
The Disadvantages of Being Educated (Albert Jay Nock)

Reading now-

“The End of Everything (Astrologically Speaking)â€-Katie Mack
“Black Mirror and Philosophyâ€
“The Good Place and Philosophyâ€
And a cheap Christmas romance beach read I got from a neighbor

Yes, great idea. The point of this board is to share thoughts and information, which is also what books do. I'm sure most of us will either promote our own work, our favorite authors or discuss and promote books with conservative views.
I realize I'm new to the board, so for what it's worth, I say yes.
-
I too think it's a great idea. Welcome to TBR @SurvivalReport

Looking for someone to moderate this?

I am excited to see fellow briefers interested in such a section.
Years ago, I was the IS Director at a newspaper, and the Entertainment Editor would receive mostly hardback books new on the market, and he offered us the books if we read them and would write a review on the book. I read a number of books that way, books I would normally not be inclined to read. It turned out to be an interesting exercise. Here, fellow briefers can provide a review of books and authors they are reading, that will give the rest of us greater options for our reading list, and expand perhaps our discussions on many subjects, not just politics. Speaking of which, I am a bit burnt out on.
I went away for five days to Hot Springs, NC, and even when I came back, I did not plug back in right away to follow the political nonsense. To say I am disillusioned would be an understatement.
EasyAce mentioned an author named Anne Applebaum. I read her book Gulag years ago, and found it to be interesting about the concentration camp system in Russia. The terror folks lived with during the reigns of Lenin and Stalin are quite shocking.

Or me....

Biographies of Ben Carson and Tim Tebow.... neither were very memorable, simplistic and lacking depth.

Does it count if we're reading for pure entertainment? I'm finishing up Book 8 of Will Wight's Cradle series (Wintersteel).

Moderator job still open... :2popcorn:

Another Cat Mod job would probably do well for me in my standing here, but the last book I read disqualifies me, for most here.

Few who have ever been to court have any faith in the justice system.

Did you buy that new?

All y'all have spoken! We have the new sub-Category, under "Entertainment & Sports!"
It's pretty empty right now, but the two new Moderators, @Gefn and @jafo2010 will be filling it shortly. I expect we'll have "Genre" threads pinned to the top, and regular topics about specific authors, and a "What are you reading now?" thread too!
