Illinois residents feel the lure of states with fewer rules

Mark Guarino, The Washington Post Published 4:06 pm PDT, Friday, May 22, 2020

CHICAGO - Last weekend Quincy, Illinois, Mayor Kyle Moore drove across the Mississippi River to Hannibal, Missouri. He pulled into a popular brewery, the parking lot crammed with familiar cars, all with Illinois plates.

"You can't get into the place," he said. "They've been running out of food."

Watching the taillights fade across the border is a common source of aggravation for public officials in communities throughout Illinois. For many, it has only gotten more worrisome as limits put in place to contain the novel coronavirus are loosening in every surrounding state, while Illinois remains mostly closed.

Five neighboring states - Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Indiana and Kentucky - have all in recent weeks relaxed or abolished restrictions while Gov. J.B. Pritzker, a Democrat, has twice extended Illinois's stay-at-home order.

Basically, you have businesses in Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Indiana benefiting from a Chicago shutdown that covers the entire state.  And you have leftist nut jobs complaining that Illinois residents crossing into other states puts Illinois at risk, not the other way around.  I hope Illinois does not receive another federal dime while they continue to be stuck on stupid.

Unfortunately with time, that 'exodus' has the potential of turning red states purple and eventually blue.

All Illinois residents are welcome in Iowa, unless you're from the Chicagoland area, then screw you and GTHO.

Could be, if indeed the people fleeing for better opportunities are really all that stupid and export the failed political and economic policies of where they came from.

Are you seriously questioning the stupidity of Democrats?  Yes, absolutely, they will vote for the exact same policies that caused them to flee the places where those policies were enacted.  We are dealing with that crap in my area right now.

Democrats are always either stupid or seeking illicit gains.

A lot of the people fleeing are conservatives who have had enough of the state.

For example, California lost a lot of them to Arizona and Nevada, hence California is now a reliably liberal state.
