Title: Veteran's charities
Post by: olde north church on November 30, 2013, 12:48:15 pm
Looking to make a small contribution to a veteran related charity.  Tax deductibility is NOT an issue, % toward admin costs are.
Thanks

The 0% thing doesn't apply, but you could take a look at http://www.pinupsforvets.com/

Gina - a very lovely woman in all senses of the word - started it back in 2006. She visits vets in hospital (in costume) and most of the money raised goes to providing medical equipment and improving medical care.

I usually buy a dozen or so calendars per year purely for family and friends, and another dozen as gifts for the long term ill in veterans hospitals. Brings a smile to their faces, at the very least!

I did interview her once and got to know her rather well. If you want the interview link, drop me a message.

Additional thought - you could do what our local pub does for the cancer respite shelter we have nearby. We all kick in a few quid, then go to the shelter with actual goods - bought them two TV's and a game console with a bunch of games last year. Year before that we paid for a years worth of flowers for the common areas and a mass of craft supplies - those were popular!

0% admin cost, since you are spending the money yourself directly.

That was another thought, a donation to the active duty and another to the discharged.
