How Long Will the Coronavirus Outbreak and Shutdown Last?
www.yahoo.com (http://www.yahoo.com)

At a news conference Thursday, President Donald Trump addressed the question of the hour: How long will it take for things to go back to normal?

“People are talking about July, August,” he said.

But that inquiry, many doctors and scientists say, is the wrong question.

There is no way in Heck people are going to stand for these restrictions until July.

Staying at home, no but other restrictions may continue.  We will have to see how this develops.

The goal here should be to move from the Chinese model (lockdown) to the South Korean model (testing, monitoring, self-quarantining for specific symptoms -- and everybody else going to work) as fast as possible. We're buying time to make that shift. Let's not waste the time.

Would I be silly to note "runny nose" is not a symptom of the dreaded COVID-19?  Neither is sneezing.

At that, sneezing is not a symptom but I gather, that is something to stay away from. I was near someone sneezing the other day and tried to distance myself and however it works, it can hang in the air for a spell.

From what I read the symptoms are like any regular flu marked by difficulty with breathing.
But even if you do actually have COVID-19 that doesn't necessarily mean that anything will happen to you, unless you are already weakened in some way beforehand. Just like any flu will do.

Of course, sure, take reasonable precautions but Really? Come on already. It's not the end of the world, and even if it was, toilet paper cannot save you from the apocalypse. I am safe sound and just waiting for all this craziness to pass. And no, I do not have a truckload of TP in my garage. Because I'm not STUPID! like everyone else.

How Long Will the Coronavirus Outbreak and Shutdown Last?
"If we are relying on social or physical distancing to slow down infection, the prevailing optimistic guess among experts on when the virus will abate is about two months: significantly earlier than Trump’s prediction.

“I’d say the beginning of May we’re going to feel like we’re coming out of this,” said Morgan Katz, an assistant professor of infectious disease at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. “That’s my hope.”"

Some of the drugs that are given to combat this virus are detrimental in combination with some drugs that those suffering with heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes have already been taking ... that is what is causing the fatalities from my understanding.

Here's the Chinese chart. The peak in new cases came in early February. From there, it was about two weeks until the peak in active cases. From there, the decline is slow.

I'm sick of my GF already, I want to kill her and it's only been 3 days.

   I miss my Rockets.

It will last until the economy crashes to the point where the international banking families can buy up corporations and real property at a dime on the dollar. They have clearly already bought the politicians.

Yep. In concert with the crash in oil prices, a lot will be on the block.

We spent 20 years building this, ten rebuilding the economy, and it's taken down by panic over a really nasty chest cold.

This.   The current lockdown is forcing economic triage of the budget-busting variety.

No, not silly, especially as spring and allergy season approaches.   This lockdown needs to end as soon as possible.

Tell that to the people who have lost family members in Italy among other places.  Lord willing....not here.

Sorry, it may seem unkind, but the average age of the family members lost in Italy is 79.5 years old. Ninety nine percent of those who died had either high blood pressure, diabetes, a heart condition or a combination of the three. Add to that most living in an area which has the worst air pollution in the country.

In the meantime, The economy of this country is taking a huge hit, and like I said, the oil industry will not be able to pull it out this time. My concerns are much closer to home. I got the word that the company I have been working for suspended operations today. IOW, until further notice, I am out of work. I am just one of thousands, considering Halliburton announced a 3500 worker layoff, and that is just one company. Between oil prices crashing and this insane lockdown, we're on our way to the next Great Depression.

Italy is far from my top concern, and cold as it may sound, considering the age and general health of the victims there, no one lives forever.

There are a grand total of seven people with confirmed COVID-19 in this entire State (less than one per one hundred thousand), none are hospitalized, none have died, and 355 have been tested and turned out negative for the virus.

Our economy affects 330,000,000 people, and will for some time to come.

@Smokin Joe

And there it is. The only people in danger of dying are the ones like me who are old, sick, and already standing in line to have our numbers called.

Death is only a tragedy when it is someone young, healthy, and full of promise,or someone of working age with a family and prospects dies.

This.   The current lockdown is forcing economic triage of the budget-busting variety.

Medical Triage saves lives in the short run.

Hopefully Economic Triage assists return to normalcy in the least time and damage.

Nailed it Pete.  I suspect Smokin Joe falls into at least one of those categories.
Take care Pete!

There is no way in Heck people are going to stand for these restrictions until July.

When I went through Basic Training for 8 weeks-plus two at the start, another 1-2 at the end we were in quarantine for Spinal Menangitus. A cold, wet winter and temps dipped into 40s-30s. Windoes fully open 24 hours. Wet, rainy old blowing in off Monterey Bay--Alsdks current, NorCal coast.

We adjusted, even if we didn't like it.

These measures are very rapidly being accepted, with people using Zoom, for meetings, as just one example.c

My wife and I can't go to the gym. My wife said she starts on the bike, then.

If my number comes up, hopefully I'm outdoors walking, to some Allman Brothers.

Quit bitching, help others.
