Virginia Republican Mark Obenshain plans to ask for a recount on Wednesday morning in his race for state attorney general, his campaign said on Tuesday.

Obenshain trails Democrat Mark Herring by 165 votes out of more than 2.2 million votes cast in the Nov. 5 election, according to results certified on Monday by the Virginia State Board of Elections.

Herring’s victory would complete a Democratic sweep of Virginia’s five statewide offices, the first since 1969. If Obenshain were to pull ahead in the recount, he would continue the GOP’s 19-year streak holding the office.
