Video captured the terrifying moment a Boeing 747 began shooting flames midair after an engine apparently malfunctioned shortly after takeoff.
The Atlas Air Boeing 747-8 cargo plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Miami.
"The crew followed all standard procedures and safely returned to MIA," Atlas Air said in a statement to The Messenger.

The plane will be inspected to determine how the fire started late Thursday.
In the video footage, flames are seen jutting from the plane's left wing.

Remember when it was, “If it isn’t Boeing, I’m not going”?

Looks like someone screwed up and put a pulsejet on the plane, sucks for the passengers but those on the ground were probably going ooh, ahh!

No passengers, thankfully - just 5 crew. I believe it was a cargo flight.

Boeing doesn't make jet engines. The engine for the 747-8 was made by GE. Depending on which 747-8 of Atlas Air's fleet of that model, the plane that experienced the engine failure was 1-12 years old.
Boeing has earned blame for much - the 737 Max and KC-46 programs - but this engine failure was due to GE, Atlas Air's maintenance, or simple part failure in the engine.

Yes, and I’d say it still is.
The 747 is a great plane in the annals of aviation history. As with all plane incidents, there are a variety of possible factors involved. It’s not simply the airplane and its engineering.

Engine fires can be caused by any number of things. Thank goodness this one wasn't fatal.

All true - many external factors and outside responsibilities can cause an engine fire. Nevertheless, the optics are horrible for Boeing.
