Capitol Police officer dies following riot

A Capitol Police officer who took part in defending the Capitol during a mob onslaught died Thursday.
"That makes five known deaths from Trump’s insurrection," Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) tweeted. "We must have accountability."

The officer's death brings the death toll from Wednesday's riot to five. The other four deaths were among the rioters, including one woman whom Capitol Police shot as she attempted to enter the House Chamber, and three others who died of unrelated health emergencies, including one heart attack.
Details surrounding the officer's death, including his or her name, were not immediately available.
The death was first reported by CNN.
More than 50 officers were injured and 15 hospitalized in the standoff against supporters of President Trump, who breached the Capitol in an attempt to stop Congress from certifying President-elect Joe Biden's election.

DCist is retracting a story that reported the death of a U.S. Capitol Police officer who was assaulted during the insurrection at the Capitol.
“Although some officers were injured and hospitalized yesterday, no USCP officers have passed away,†Capitol Police said in a statement. We ask that our officers’ and their families’ privacy be respected at this time. Should a statement become necessary, the Department will issue one at the appropriate time.â€

Let's see...THree protesters died of medical problems, one shot by Capitol Police, and the Capitol Hill Policeman died, from...? a stroke according to one account.
I can see how that situation would complicate getting a person to EMS (or vice versa) in time for serious conditions to be treated.
However, blaming the five deaths on the protest alone as if they were part of some conservative kill count is just wrong.
Consider, even before COVID, roughly 22 people per million people died each day in the US, 5 deaths out of a million or so protesters is subpar.

Capitol Police said in a statement that Officer Brian D. Sicknick died at approximately 9:30 p.m. ET Thursday "due to injuries sustained while on-duty."
The death is being investigated by the DC Metropolitan Police Department's homicide branch, the US Capitol Police and their federal partners.

Benjamin Philips, 50, from Pennsylvania; Kevin Greeson, 55, from Alabama; and Rosanne Boyland, 34, from Georgia died on Wednesday after suffering “medical emergencies†while “on the grounds of the Capitol,†Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee said.
Ashli Babbitt, 35, was fatally shot by a plainclothes cop after climbing through a broken window and trying to enter the House chamber. More than 50 Capitol and D.C. police were injured during the riot as Congress met to confirm Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory, including several who were hospitalized. All four deaths are under investigation.
While authorities haven’t provided details on the medical emergencies, Greeson’s son said his father died from a heart attack mid-protest. Boyland died after being crushed by the crowd, according to one report, while Philips had a stroke, fellow protesters said.
“My dad had a heart attack yesterday and sadly passed away,†Kyler Greeson said in a statement. “We all loved him so much. He made me the man I am today. Always going...to car shows to support me and to enjoy the cars together. Him, my brother, and I would ride motorcycles together and have a great time. He was such a great man we all miss you so much. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.â€

I got to agree with you on this one. This is fishy as all get up. Almost 2 days later, and the cop who fired on the protester is still anonymous, while all the sudden this mysterious cop suddenly dies, with not one bit of cell camera, security camera, twitter traffic, or police scanner info to support it.

Correct. She fell into the room she had been in, not into the room beyond the window. She was unarmed, and physically small enough to make it through the window opening in the door (which means she should have posed no lethal threat to any police on the other side of the door).
