Warren, Harris back reparations for black Americans affected by slavery
By Michael Burke - 02/21/19 03:15 PM EST
Democratic Sens. Kamala Harris (Calif.) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), who are both running for president, have reportedly said they support reparations for black Americans affected by slavery.
The New York Times reported Thursday that Harris affirmed her support for reparations in a statement after agreeing last week with a radio host that reparations are necessary.
"We have to be honest that people in this country do not start from the same place or have access to the same opportunities," Harris said in the statement. "I’m serious about taking an approach that would change policies and structures and make real investments in black communities."
Warren has also said she supports reparations, according to the Times, though her campaign declined to provide further details to the newspaper.
The Hill has reached out to both campaigns for comment.

Ah, yet another radical left-wing idea that Republicans can add to their portrait of the Dems as way, way outside the mainstream.
-
I endorse paying them reparations. To anyone who is alive and who was a slave before the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
-
I don't have a problem with this. Democrats should pay reparations for slavery, segregation, and Jim Crow. Just leave taxpayer money out of it.

And anyone alive that owned slaves should have to pay reparations.

And anyone alive that owned slaves should have to pay reparations.
And anyone with African ancestors who originally sold slaves.
-
These "free money" schemes are fine with me...so long as the politicians pay for them. I'm sure Warren and Harris have enough graft...er… wealth to pay all these "victims."
-
Would this also end affirmative action?
-
Just let them set up and operate casinos in the hoods as they did with the Indians.

@mystery-ak
I have no problem with this. If any former slaves show up claiming damages,I have no problem with them being paid for their work as long as the appropriate amount is deducted to pay for their passage to America, their food, clothing, housing, educations, etc, etc, etc.
Then again, any that show up are going to be kinda old,so we would need to deduct SS,medicaid, welfare, public housing, and other expenses, also.

I'd like to know how they are going to determine which black Americans were affected by slavery?? What proof would they have to provide?
Yet another grand scheme to get votes. What about LBJ's Great Society plan? Those that have been on welfare for generations have already been given some sort of reparation.
How much in reparations do they thing black Americans affected by slavery are entitled to?
Perhaps most importantly; what about back reparations for WHITE Americans and ASIAN Americans affected by slavery?

Meh, let them get reparations, whitey will get all the money back in no time, anyway.
Besides, you think they'll stop bitching even if they get reparations?

???How will 'whitey' get all the money back?

???How will 'whitey' get all the money back?
Because they will blow at high dough.

Can I claim an exemption from the reparations tax since my ancestors didn't get here until 1867?
