National emergency: House will vote on rejecting Trump’s declaration in coming days, Pelosi says

Nancy Pelosi has said that the House will vote in the coming days on a resolution rejecting Donald Trump's national emergency declaration, while encouraging fellow Democrats to support the effort as they try to stop the president's push to expand efforts to build a barrier along the US-Mexico border.

In a letter, the California Democrat said Mr Trump's declaration "undermines the separation of powers and Congress' power of the purse, a power exclusively reserved by the text of the Constitution to the first branch of government, the Legislative branch, a branch co-equal to the Executive."

By invoking a national emergency, Mr Trump is claiming authority to shift federal funds appropriated by Congress for other purposes to be spent instead on his border wall.

Ms Pelosi announced that the House would move "swiftly" to pass a disapproval resolution written by Texan Democrat Joaquin Castro,............

...............Democratic leaders had been anticipating Mr Trump's emergency declaration for weeks and had been working quietly behind the scenes on a two-pronged approach that would include passing a disapproval resolution to put Republicans on record on the matter - then eventually suing or joining with a lawsuit challenging the declaration in court.............

.............The resolution is expected to sail through the Democratic-controlled House. Its fate in the Senate, where Republicans hold a 53-to-47 advantage, is less certain.

Maine's Republican senator Susan Collins became the first member of her party to say publicly that she would vote to reject Mr Trump's emergency declaration. At an event in her home state, she said Mr Trump's move is of "dubious constitutionality" and pledged to support a "clean" resolution opposing it..............

It's kind of ridiculous how important not building the wall is to the left. We all know it's not actually about the money, right? Trump fulfilling one of his campaign promises would just be too unacceptable. They'll try to block him from doing anything and then criticize him for not following through with what he said. Gross...

Of course its not about the money. If Trump succeeds they lose the chance of significantly expanding their voting base which they need in 2020 and beyond to control the masses to fulfill their agenda(s).

I think the Pubs are missing a huge opportunity by not stressing that Trump was willing to do immigration reform and not just the wall. It was the Rats who said no. It really doesn't matter if the Pubs would have given them everything they wanted or not. The important thing is Trump was willing to make a deal. Now the wall will get built and they will have nothing to show for it.

??? Trump signed a bad bill.  It allows liberal politicians to opt out of building a wall.  So the wall, at least in its entirety will never get built.

Secondly the bill grants amnesty to the cartel.

If this is the 'deal' that you are referencing, it was a bad deal for America.  Should have, could have, it didn't get done favoring border security, the wall or the sovereignty of this country.

I'm aware. What hasn't been reported is why.

Also, what hasn't been widely reported is Trump signed 3 executive orders the day he made the national emergency declaration. One order was the declaration, but the other two orders involved using monies for wall construction from other sources that he has the legal right to direct to wall construction. The wall is being built and the emergency declaration that will be challenged in Congress and the Courts is only one part of the total project.

Trump is relentless. He's going to get this done. His ego won't allow him to not get the wall built.

After passing the House, the Senate must take action within 18 days. There may be a couple Dem defectors, like Manchin or Jones. That may be offset by Collins and Rubio. The count on the right will be interesting, since the Majority Whip, John Thune, had previously expressed doubt over the use of the declaration.

Good.
The sooner the better.
Let's get this over with, and let the chips fall where they may.

In the meantime... keep planning and buildin' that wall !
