Jill Biden to meet second plane of baby formula at Dulles

First lady Jill Biden and Surgeon General Vivek Murthy are slated to meet the second flight carrying infant formula from overseas when it arrives at Dulles International Airport just outside the nation’s capital on Wednesday, the White House announced.
The military plane is taking off from Ramstein Air Base in Germany and is expected to transport more than 100,000 pounds of infant formula, or roughly 1 million 8-ounce bottles of Nestlé formula, the White House said in an announcement Tuesday. FedEx Express, which is operating the flight, will then move the formula to a Nestlé distribution center in Pennsylvania.
This is the second such flight to arrive in the U.S. as part of “Operation Fly Formula,” a program President Biden launched last week to expedite shipments of baby formula from overseas to mitigate a national shortage.
The first flight landed in Indiana on Sunday and was greeted by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.

So instead of 100,000 pounds of powdered formula, they are transporting 20,000 pounds of powdered formula mixed with 80,000 lbs of water. In other words, they are essentially using a cargo jet to deliver water across the Atlantic.
Of course controlling the distribution of individual bottles of formula is far more tyrannical than handing out cannisters of powder that last a week.

Is this more of the specialty hypo-allergenic formula that will go to pharmacies and doctors and such (i.e. not store shelves)? I don't object to the specialty formula being given priority, but to pols and MSM pretending that first flight would have store-shelf impact, I do object.

A couple of things here do not add up. First, why would FedEx Express be flying a C-17 military transport plane? And secondly, 8 million ounces of milk would weigh 520,000 lbs, not 100,000 lbs.

Relief is coming for anxious parents looking for baby formula on shelves that have been sparse for months.
Brian Deese, the director of the National Economic Council, told CNN’s Dana Bash on Sunday morning that “because of actions we’re taking right now,” the shortage should be alleviated this week.
“We’re going to see more formula coming off factory lines,” Deese said. “And more formula in stores starting as early as this week.”
Deese didn’t share any details about what actions the Biden administration is taking to improve domestic output, but he did say that the first international delivery of “specialty medical grade formula” from Germany arrived in Indiana on Sunday morning. That flight alone will provide 15% of the volume the country needs.
What appears to be the single largest factor in the country’s formula shortage was the shuttering of a baby formula plant in Sturgis, Michigan, in February. Abbott reached a deal with the Food and Drug Administration this week to open its plant again after regulators determined that bacteria found in the plant was not connected to any infant illnesses. . . .

First of all, the week is almost over, and there are zero signs that the shortage has been "alleviated". Secondly, when they say "15% of the volume the country needs", are they talking about volume for a single day? And thirdly, we are still faced with the fact that the largest plant in North America has been shut down for 98 days despite the FACT that there is zero connection between that plant and the infections incurred by four babies. The FDA openly admits this, yet the plant remains closed.

An over-simplified summary would be that protective tariffs, FDA regs, and WIC program formula marketplace dominance set up the US for shortages of infant formula should any significant producer be shut down more than briefly for any reason.

This begs the question "Why aren't the other plants working 3 shifts to meet demand? Last I hear,corporations were in business to make money,and this would be a golden opportunity for other plants to double down on production and rake in record profits.

They had announced a couple of weeks ago that the plant was scheduled to reopen June 4 (tomorrow). We'll see if that happens or not. But the point is that during a time of massive shortage, Biden's government has purposely kept the largest formula plant in North America shuttered without cause.

Tampons have reportedly been scarce lately amid shortages, including baby formula, that have affected consumers.
In a recent statement, manufacturer Procter & Gamble, the company that makes Tampax tampons and Always pads, said some consumers at the moment might be unable “to find what they need” but described the problem as “temporary,” NBC News reported Friday.
“The Tampax team is producing tampons 24/7 to meet the increased demand for our products,” the company explained, adding, “We are working with our retail partners to maximize availability, which has significantly increased over the last several months.”
Meanwhile, social media users voiced their frustration over the apparent issue.
“Baby formula and now a tampon shortage. Biden’s War on Women is on. Stock up ladies. #tamponshortage,” one person wrote. ...
