14-year-old Henrik Eide Dahl consumed 8 liters β about 270 ounces β of an energy drink so he could stay awake playing Call of Duty. Expected to make a full recovery, the teen says he now knows βit is not good to drink that much energy drink.β
A Norwegian teen was hospitalized with severe kidney failure after a 16-hour, caffeine-fueled Call of Duty video game binge.
Henrik Eide Dahl, 14, reportedly collapsed in his high school's cafeteria last month at the end of the marathon session.
He'd consumed an astonishing 8 liters of powerful energy drinks to keep himself going.
Flown to hospital in Lillehammer, he fell into a coma as his kidneys started to fail. Placed on a drip, he was kept alive by a respirator.
Doctors feared for his life.
"I was playing Call of Duty. Then everything went dark and I passed out," The Local reports him as saying.
"When I woke up, I was terrified," he added.
Dahl, who spent almost two weeks in hospital, said the incident was "very scary" and had taught him "it is not good to drink that much energy drink."
Still taking medication to control his high blood pressure, he is expected to make a full recovery.

Can't go 16 hours without that much caffeine? I blame Norwegian socialism for producing such a little wuss.

That's some fine parental oversight, right there. Sixteen hours playing video games. Yessirree.

My thought exactly. But then again, this is Norway....

I love Call of Duty (but cannot stand the multilayer, too many hacker/cheaters) but I get bored after a few hours at most.
Even when I was a kid and playing Nintendo and Sega Genesis, the most I could do is about 4-6 hours with breaks.
-
I imagine it wasn't just the caffeine that did him in. That much fluid in general was probably what caused the kidney failure.

as well as whatever else was in that "energy" drink.

You're correct, grandson can do 16 hours playing Call of Duty standing on his head.
