Jaws star Susan Backlinie dies aged 77: Actress played the first shark victim in Steven Spielberg's iconic movie

Actress and stuntwoman Susan Backlinie, perhaps best known as the first shark attack victim in 'Jaws,' has died.

Backlinie, 77, suffered a fatal heart attack at her home in Ventura, California.

In addition to her career on the silver screen, Backlinie was a nationally ranked swimmer and professional diver.

Before she was brought onto 'Jaws' at 28 years old, she had worked as an animal trainer and performed as a mermaid.

She played Chrissie Watkins in Steven Spielberg's iconic 1975 film and spent three days rehearsing the opening scene in which she is thrashed around by a great white before vanishing beneath the waves.

Sen. Bob Menendez corruption trial begins in New York

Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) will appear Monday at a Manhattan courthouse for his criminal trial after he was charged by the Department of Justice with accepting bribes and illegally acting as a foreign agent on behalf of Egypt and Qatar.

The trial will begin with jury selection and is expected to overlap with several days that the Senate is in session.

Menendez has not decided whether he will take the witness stand in his trial but plans to be present every day for the proceedings “subject to the schedule,” he recently told a reporter. Criminal defendants are typically required to be present for trials.

Menendez, his wife, and three businessmen were indicted last fall on corruption charges. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York alleged that Menendez accepted bribes in exchange for using his influence as the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to benefit the Egyptian government.

The bribes included hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, gold bars, mortgage payments, a luxury vehicle, and more.

White House should be 'concerned' as Trump rallies as many as 100k in deep-blue New Jersey: 'Extraordinary'
Trump reportedly rallied between 80k and 100k supporters in Wildwood on Saturday according to the Associated Press

Former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy warned the Biden White House should be "concerned" ahead of November after Trump rallied as many as 100,000 supporters in New Jersey in what is being called the largest political rally in state history.

McCarthy joined "Sunday Morning Futures" to discuss his reaction to Trump's massive rally in Wildwood, New Jersey on Saturday and why he thinks the Garden State could be in play this election cycle.

"That was extraordinary," McCarthy told host Maria Bartiromo on Sunday. "New Jersey [is] not a place that people think Republicans would ever compete, but the size of the crowd…could President Biden get that crowd in the heart of New York or in the most Democrat state? Could he do it in California? The answer is no."

"The other thing that we're hearing coming out of the White House itself is… President Biden needs to campaign less, talk less, because he gets in trouble while doing it," he continued. "This is President Trump showing no matter what they throw at him, he's going to fight back. He's going to lead this nation on the issues they care most about."

A Wildwood spokesperson told the Associated Press that between 80,000 and 100,000 people attended the rally, which was more than double what was expected. Trump confidently said he would win New Jersey in November as the crowd erupted.

The Fall of the House of Presidential Persecutions › American Greatness
Victor Davis Hanson

None of the five civil and criminal cases currently lodged against former President Donald Trump have ever had merit. They were all predicated on using the law to injure his re-election candidacy—given a widespread derangement syndrome among the left and a fear they cannot entrust a Trump/Biden election to the people.

These criminal and civil trials are merely the continuation of extra-legal efforts of the last eight years to destroy a presidential candidate in lieu of opposing him in transparent elections.

As such, the current lawfare joins the Mueller investigation of the Russian-collusion hoax. It is a continuation of the laptop disinformation caper and the “51 intelligence authorities” who lied about its Russian origins. It logically follows from the two impeachments, the Senate trial of Trump as a private citizen, and states’ efforts to remove him from their ballots.

The E. Jean Carroll case, the Alvin Bragg, Letitia James, and Fani Willis local and state trials, and the Smith federal indictment share various embarrassments.

How you break woke companies is to boycott them, especially boutique ones like Nike.

They all forget they are built on capitalist business models, and they fall apart if they are denied money and sales.

Drive their share prices to the floor and they'll have no more luxury to be woke.

Trump’s sleazy accusers

TRUMP’S SLEAZY ACCUSERS. The Trump trial in Manhattan is expected to come to a climax of sorts this week with the appearance of star prosecution witness Michael Cohen. Cohen will follow the prosecution’s other star witness, Stormy Daniels, the porn star who testified last week.

Daniels testified about the sexual encounter she has at times said she had with former President Donald Trump and at times said she did not have with Trump in 2006. During the 2016 presidential campaign, Daniels had a lawyer who specialized in shaking down celebrities who want to quell embarrassing news. In the final days before voting, Trump, through his lawyer Cohen, paid Daniels $130,000 to stay quiet about the matter. Such a transaction, while tawdry, was entirely legal, and there is only a trial because Alvin Bragg, the Democrat who was elected district attorney of Manhattan on a promise to go after Trump, accuses Trump of falsifying his company’s bookkeeping regarding the $130,000 payment in order, Bragg says, to pull off some sort of super-secret scheme to steal the 2016 election.

Here’s the thing about both Daniels and Cohen. They have an extreme animus against Trump, so much so that even if they did not have records of making untrustworthy statements, and they do, their Trump hatred would make it difficult for an unbiased observer to believe anything they said. Much of their lives in the past decade have been devoted either to attacking or trying to get money out of Trump.

Neither is a person of good character. A fundamental fact about this case is that the prosecution’s star witnesses are a woman who had sex for money and a lawyer who did sleazy things. (That’s on top of the felonies, including tax evasion and bank fraud, that Cohen pleaded guilty to a few years ago.) It does not speak well of Trump that he had anything to do with people like Cohen and Daniels, and now he is paying a price for doing so. Before the trial is over, Bragg may regret getting mixed up with them, too.
