Friends only: Don Jr and Eric Trump take on vetting roles in transition team

Former President Donald Trump tends to have his family involved in his business, and for his presidential transition team, his campaign is reportedly using family to vet prospective hires.

Trump’s oldest sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, are set to be key parts of the transition team should the former president win a second term in November, according to a report from Axios. The report cites close allies and Trump campaign aides who said the two would focus on vetting possible picks for a second administration based on ideology and loyalty to Donald Trump.

One person close to Donald Trump Jr. said his goal was to “keep the John Boltons of the world outside a second Trump administration.” He has previously proclaimed that the new GOP is the MAGA, or Make America Great Again, movement, saying non-MAGA Republicans were a “dying breed.”

“People have to understand that America First, the MAGA movement, is the new Republican Party. That is conservatism today,” Trump Jr. said on Newsmax’s The Balance in March. “You know, there may be the Mitt Romneys and the Liz Cheneys out there. But that is a rare and dying breed.”

Mexican Officials Keep Meddling In Red States’ Efforts To Crack Down On Illegal Immigration

JASON HOPKINS CONTRIBUTOR
April 23, 2024 3:18 PM ET

The Mexican government is publicly opposing bills passed or being considered by states that seek to crack down on illegal immigration, and becoming directly involved in efforts to squash them.

In response to what they describe as a failure of the Biden administration to handle the ongoing border crisis, a number of states have passed legislation that gives their own law enforcement officials the means to tackle the issue. Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbot recently signed into law SB4, a bill that allows local and state officers to engage in immigration enforcement. Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, also a Republican, is considering legislation that would give local and state law enforcement the ability to arrest those they suspect of being in the U.S. illegally.

Texas’ SB4 makes it a state crime to cross the Texas-Mexico border between ports of entry. If a local or state officer suspects that an individual crossed into Texas unlawfully, they could be charged with a Class B misdemeanor, and serve up to six months jail time. Harsher jail times are handed down for repeat offenders.

However, the Mexican government has become intimately involved in opposing these bills, continuing a growing trend in Mexican President Andre Manuel Lopez Obrador’s administration of attempting to intervene in American politics.

With lawfare failing to move the needle, House Democrats take their war on Trump to a more dangerous level
By

Democrats say the most extraordinary things.

Last week, Hillary Clinton joined attorney Marc Elias on his Defending Democracy podcast. Elias, you may recall, famously hired opposition research firm Fusion GPS and laundered Clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee funds through his law firm, Perkins Coie, in April 2016 to pay for the creation of the Steele dossier.

In her typical inflammatory fashion, Clinton said, “[Former President Donald] Trump is, like, gaga over [Russian President Vladimir] Putin because Putin does what he would like to do: Kill his opposition, imprison his opposition, drive journalists and others into exile, rule without any check or balance.

“That’s what Trump really wants,” Clinton continued. “And so we have to be very conscious of how he sees the world because, in that world, he only sees strongmen leaders. He sees Putin, he sees [Chinese President] Xi [Jinping], he sees Kim Jong Un in North Korea. Those are the people he is modeling himself after.”

Clinton was simply doing what Democrats always do: accusing their enemies of doing and thinking precisely what they are actually doing and thinking.

Is that what they claim?  Sure they are. :tongue2:

What are his chances of winning?

I can see him taking the rest of the state, but he’ll have to deal with the corruption in places like Philadelphia.

If the American people are stupid enough to nominate these two guys, doesn’t mean I have to be stupid, too.
That's the only reason we never will nominate Gov. Krispy Kreme - we're just stupid.  :silly:

Rep. Grothman: DHS monitoring over 600,000 illegals with CRIMINAL RECORDS

04/23/2024 // Ava Grace // 390 Views

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is reportedly aware of and monitoring more than 600,000 illegal immigrants with criminal records who managed to enter the country.Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-WI) – chairman of the House National Security, Border and Foreign Affairs (NSBFA) Subcommittee – disclosed this during an April 11 hearing. The NSBFA Subcommittee is under the larger House Oversight Committee led by its chairman, Rep. James Comer (R-KY).
According to Grothman, 617,000 illegals of the more than six million permitted into the U.S. since President Joe Biden took office have either criminal convictions or pending criminal charges. He subsequently blasted this alarming finding during the same hearing.
"The fact is that illegal aliens should not be in the country in the first place and able to commit these crimes," said the Wisconsin congressman. He also cited an analysis conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety revealing that such people "are more likely to be convicted of homicide, sexual assault, and kidnapping than the average Texan."
"The solutions aren't hard. Secure the border, stop releasing illegal aliens into the country in droves. When an illegal alien commits a crime in the community, turn them over to ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement], enforce the law and remove them. It's just that simple."

Ocasio-Cortez emerges as key Biden surrogate for progressives, young people
by Alex Gangitano - 04/24/24 6:00 AM ET

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is emerging as a key surrogate for President Biden’s reelection campaign for young people and progressives, pushing his climate agenda as a win for those critical voting blocs.

Ocasio-Cortez’s surrogacy comes with parameters. She said she supports Biden’s reelection bid and will stand by him during a climate event, but she has also put pressure on him as an outspoken critic of the Biden administration’s handling of Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza.

The support from AOC — as Ocasio-Cortez is widely known — lends Biden star power and left-wing credibility as he faces an uphill battle in getting young voters, as well as left-leaning voters in general, to the polls.

“AOC has immense and sustained visibility with young voters and progressives of all ages,” said former Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.), who chaired the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “She can play a very impactful role in helping to unite them to stop Donald Trump. She can remind them about Biden’s success in funding climate initiatives, reducing student debt, and more.”

As Ocasio-Cortez stood by Biden to back his climate agenda, students in her hometown of New York City were protesting Biden’s pro-Israel policy.

Ocasio-Cortez has argued that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza and has called on the Biden administration to halt military aid to Israel.

This election isn’t about addressing the long-term and short term problems facing this country, but about getting revenge on the losing side and I don’t care if it’s Trump and his supporters or Biden

Why West Virginia’s Secretary Of State Won’t Follow Biden’s ‘Illegal Directives’ Federalizing Elections
Mac Warner says he doesn’t want to put local elections officials in the middle of the ‘illegal’ Bidenbucks directives.

West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner has put the Biden administration on notice: The Mountain State doesn’t intend to enforce their “unconstitutional orders.”

Warner and Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson are leading the pushback against Biden’s Executive Order 14019, which commands federal agencies to work with state and local governments to register voters and facilitate get-out-the-vote initiatives targeting left-leaning voters. Biden’s fiat directs “approved” third-party organizations to “partner” in the GOTV campaign. The effort is referred to as “Bidenbucks,” a nod to Zuckbucks, the piles of private donations that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg dropped on local election administration in 2020.

Critics contend the executive order is unconstitutional because Congress never appropriated federal funding for local voter registration, while federal bureaucrats are doing the election work that states — not the federal government — are authorized to do.

“What we’re trying to do is let the administration know we do not intend to follow their illegal directives,” Warner told The Federalist in an interview last week.

That begins with West Virginia not accepting registrations coming out of the Bidenbucks initiative, Warner said. The secretary cited Article 1 Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution, which gives states and their legislatures the authority to prescribe “Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives.”

He added that the county clerks are already concerned that the federalization of voter registration will increase their workload and create numerous duplicate registrations.

“Somebody might already be registered and then they go in for SNAP or another federal assistance program and they get registered again,” the Republican secretary of state said. “Now you have a double registration, and the clerks have to take time to go and sort it out.”  ...
