Four in 10 Americans Embrace Some Form of Socialism
by Mohamed Younis

Story Highlights

43% of Americans say socialism would be a good thing for the country
51% believe socialism would be a bad thing for the country
Americans split on viewing economy as free market or government controlled

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Americans today are more closely divided than they were earlier in the last century when asked whether some form of socialism would be a good or bad thing for the country. While 51% of U.S. adults say socialism would be a bad thing for the country, 43% believe it would be a good thing. Those results contrast with a 1942 Roper/Fortune survey that found 40% describing socialism as a bad thing, 25% a good thing and 34% not having an opinion.

I ask this with every poll:  Who did the pollsters poll?

Willing to bet that most who embrace socialism are youngsters who either weren't taught history or were taught some kind of revisionist history, while at the same time, they were indoctrinated by commie teachers to believe that our present system is evil, but socialism is good.

I do have one friend in her 70s who is a Bernie Sanders fan, but she is a one-time hippie.   Perhaps those in her age bracket who embraced that kind of life are ok with government-run everything.  The rest of us older folks likely aren't.

Q: Do you believe that the government should confiscate a significant part of your income and throw it into a pool from which all elderly American will draw from?
A: Of course not. That's socialism.

Q: Do you think that Social Security should be saved?
A: Yes. What about the poor elderly?

All depends on how the question is asked.

As Gary and Eric (Red Eye Radio) point out, more people aren't supporting socialism, they are supporting "Gimmie-ism"!

When these so-called supporters of socialism are asked if they are willing to pay for other folks college debts, food, clothing, housing ... uh, NO!

In other words ... Gimmie stuff for free but don't ask me to help pay for it!

Some demographic notes.
I went to the site and downloaded the pdf with the internals.

Question 13: Socialism good or bad for the country?
Age breakdown answering "good thing":
55+  36%
35-54  40%
18-34  58%

Fifty-Eight percent.
What does that tell you about the future?

I don't know about any of you but we already have a socialist state.  Only the people that pay into it are not the ones that benefit.  I am already paying and most of you are too.  You are paying for illegal immigrants almost certainly.  Yes its costing billions and we are paying for it.  Might as well get something from it.

I am not advocating for Socialism.  I just want them to stop stealing my money.

But I think that @DCPatriot likes those nice illegals that he sees on his walks and he is going to be willing to pick up the tab for all of them!

I did Interviews/Psychological Testing for the Social Security Administration to determine whether or not a person got Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI or SSD).  The person had to bring me their medications.  I got their medical history.  The testing itself lasted four hours so the person was with me about 6 hours.  My reports were about 12 pages, single spaced.  Depending on that report, the person got SSDI or not.  I was determining how the rest of that person's life would be.

The people I interviewed/tested could not work due to their disability.  If you had been with me, I know you would have agreed with me they could not work.  If you want examples, PM me.  Some of these people had worked but due to what happened to them medically, they could no longer work.  These people who could no longer work, did not want to be there; they would rather work but they could not.  I tested one person who was capable of working and I recommended to Social Security that person should not get SSDI.  I found out later, that person had already been turned down one time.

Earlier in our history, churches helped care for such people.  Really long ago, when I was young, there were "Poor Farms" where people could live and help grow crops to eat.  The people I tested would not be able to work, they would have to live there, eating by the work of others.

Sincerely, what is the answer, Legal American?  How do we care for these people who would have nothing if there was not Social Security Disability Insurance?   I think Jesus gave us the answer why we should care, now we have to put it in practice some way:

The Greatest Commandment
From the book of Mark: Jesus said: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”

"Social Security Disability Insurance (SSD or SSDI) is a payroll tax-funded, federal insurance program of the United States government. It is managed by the Social Security Administration and is designed to provide income supplements to people who are physically restricted in their ability to be employed because of a notable disability, usually a physical disability. SSDI can be supplied on either a temporary or permanent basis, usually directly correlated to whether the person's disability is temporary or permanent."

If a robber comes and steals your money, and then gives it to the poor, have you loved you neighbor?
When the government comes and confiscates your income, and then gives it to the poor, have you loved your neighbor?

However, if the government were to allow you to keep your income, and you choose to give it to the poor, then you have loved your neighbor.

For each of those age ranges, it might be revealing to compare the percentages of those who support "socialism" with the percentage who do not pay any Federal income tax.

LOL!   I love you, @Chosen Daughter   Truly.

This week, I'll be sure to get pictures to post.   Of little toddlers giggling while feeding Canadian geese by hand, while their wrinkled grandmother beams in joy.

My personal experience with them is well-documented...here and at TOS.   If I really dwelt on it after taking a bong hit, I'd probable start sobbing.

Donald Trump wasn't even a gleam in Lady Liberty's eye when I was calling for a wall.

Why is it a such a problem' here at TBR to hold a compassionate POV toward those that put everything on the line in their miserable lives, and ran the gauntlet successfully?

And don't you dare spout a moral equivalence between 'legal' and 'illegal'.

My own local government has been welcoming them for 30 years, never enforcing the immigration laws on the books.

Once they're here and settled, they're not going anywhere.

The original idea behind SS was supposedly to set up a retirement fund for workers.  People before my grandfather's generation used to work till they died,  SS was to end that and let the older folks live out their remaining years with a steady income.

Well, like every other government program, SS was soon messed up.  It was also robbed to pay for all sorts of politicians' whims.  Remember the promise that SS would be kept in a lock box so that no one would touch it?  Yeah, right!    We have people benefitting from SS who never paid into it.  Meanwhile, those who did pay into it get so little money that often doesn't even cover their basic necessities.  Those who worked for decades and paid into SS the whole time won't recoup half of what they put into it.

SS is often referred to as a Ponzi scheme.  Maybe -- I just know that it's a fraud that has been perpetrated on us gullible voters and taxpayers.  From time to time,  the lazy lumps in DC promise to fix it, but that won't happen -- partially because the seniors raise a ruckus every time some fix is proposed.  Older folks don't trust the DC crowd  and perhaps for good reason -- the elites are the ones who screwed up and robbed the program in the first place.

I wasn't going to take SS Disability when I became disabled, but as was pointed out to me -- I paid into it.  It's not welfare or charity.  Might as well get something out of SS before it collapses entirely.

Charity is from the heart.  Not dictated.  There is nothing Christian about what the government is doing.  I have health insurance that I don't use because its too high of a deductible.  I had surgery two years ago.  Just finished paying off the hospital bill.  Had anesthesiologist that was out of network.  Bills from all the different people involved in my surgery.  I don't want to incur any other medical bills.  Cant afford it.  Yet a illegal alien can come and have free births, free health care, free surgery...……..etc.  If I can't pay my own medical expenses why should I have to pay for others?

Since I am on a tirade.  Another illegal immigrant teen has died while in custody of border patrol.  Apparently there have been five.  They put themselves in a situation to get sick.  Sleeping side by side in squalor conditions with strangers.  Traveling thousands of miles out in the open.  When they get here sick we have to hospitalize them.  Some have been in the hospital for a month but died.  They are bringing disease with them into our country.  Huge expenses for people who crossed our border sick.  Yet somehow we are the bad people.

So it is easy to see how people would support socialism.  We already pay for it.  Not for ourselves but for others.

I believe we do damage to society and its future by taking away the need for charity and replacing it with government (taxpayer) funding for care.

Charity is a need for both the giver and receiver.  People learn to care for each other; they gain the understanding for the need to help others.  I do not mean that everyone learns.  There will always be the self-centered.  But with government as the care provider, it teaches society that it is other people's problem, not one they need to help solve.

Social security started in 1935, providing benefits at age 65.  At that time, the average American life expectancy back in '35 was 61.7 years.

It was not intended for nearly everyone to have a restful time after working.

I went to the site and downloaded the pdf with the internals.

Question 13: Socialism good or bad for the country?
Age breakdown answering "good thing":
55+  36%
35-54  40%
18-34  58%

Fifty-Eight percent.
What does that tell you about the future?

Bleak.  Keep in mind that the 58% represents a large demographic that is a result of our liberal educational system and the only way that is going to be rectified is if the GOP/conservatives get up off their butts and return fire.  Otherwise, socialism in this country is inevitable.
