Title: Molly the pig, adopted from animal rescue group, is eaten weeks later
Post by: mystery-ak on February 26, 2018, 03:21:55 pm
Animal lovers are outraged after learning a beloved pig that was nursed back to health and later adopted in Canada was killed and eaten by its new owners.

Molly was one of 57 pot-bellied pigs rescued from a hoarding situation in Duncan, British Columbia, last May by a local branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

Yeah, they lied on application.

They've now been banned from further adoptions.

DUNCAN, British Columbia — A pot-bellied pig that was rescued and adopted out was killed and eaten by its new owners, CHEK News reports.

Molly the pig was one of 57 pigs that came into the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals last summer. The pig was adopted on Jan. 19.

The BC SPCA was informed on Feb. 16 that Molly was killed and eaten by her new owners.

The people who adopted Molly committed in writing to not using the animal for food, but the BC SPCA says they have no legal recourse to file charges despite the owners breaking that commitment.

“Unfortunately, once someone becomes the legal owner of an animal, we have no legal recourse if they do not honor their commitment, but it was definitely discussed and agreed to during the adoption process,” Lorie Chortyk, BC SPCA general manager of community relations, told CHEK.

Constables from the BC SPCA confirmed that Molly was killed humanely. Since there is no evidence of the animal suffering, no charges can be pursued.

Brings back memories of watching my 1st Pig slaughter at my grand fathers farm.  I was 5 or 6.  I learned two things that day.  Pigs bleed a lot. They are also tasty.

Some people might think it is unusual to keep food like this pig as a pet, but when I was 5 or 6 I had a pet grilled cheese sandwich because my dad wouldn't let me get a dog.

I quess a bunny with a pancake on its head would have been the best of both worlds for you back then.

And you thought YOU were having  a bad day.

I babysat a pot-belly pig for a week about 25 years ago.  Danged thing bit me after I fed her.  They are very bright animals, but can be meaner than a junk yard dog.

That bacon looks mighty fine, @Frank Cannon!
