According to Cornell political scientist Peter Enns, conservatives are beginning to break through across the country. Based on “measures of policy mood for eac state from the 1950s to 2010,” Enns and his colleague Julianna Koch found that there has been a conservative opinion shift in every single state across the country. Most of the increases were “statistically significant”; the same held true for regions.

Between 1964 and 2010, America shifted heavily when asked whether every person should be provided a job by the government, or whether government should allow everyone to get ahead individually. Asked whether Washington was becoming too powerful, the country has again shifted dramatically.

Those statistics do not hold true on same-sex marriage, and there is no question that policy liberalism grew during the 1980s, but then reversed itself. The bad news: the public moves in the opposite direction of policy – so should Republicans win, public opinion is likely to swing to the left. Nonetheless, the study suggests that America has moved steadily to the right since the full-fledged embrace of the welfare state.

Right. The study respondents called both themselves and Obama conservative, too.

1964 was also the year of Lyndon's landslide, a time of great social upheaval and a mass shift to the left, brought on by Kennedy's death (Kennedy being a moderate Dem compared to Johnson). That was also shortly before the Supreme Court declared the OMOV fiat and made the state senate unconstitutional, allowing the urban liberals to overrun the legislatures. Of course, this was also true to a certain extent on the global scale (that's right around when Canada started their universal health care stuff). Had Johnson not screwed up so royally on Vietnam, we might have ended up even worse.

Compare us now to roughly halfway between then and now (say, 1988 or so) and the results will be far different. Heck, even go back to just 2005, the high water mark of modern conservatism. People responsible for Obama's rise to power have learned from this. They have taken every painstaking effort to manipulate the masses into doing the bidding they cannot. They learned from 1964. They learned from 1984, 1994, 2004.

There has been an undeniable and rapid shift to the left in the past eight years, brought on by a level of social engineering unheard of in modern history.

Barry Goldwater (The prominent Republican at the time) made things worse when he voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This was devastating to the Republicans because up until that time Blacks voted in a large majority for the party of Lincoln.  Goldwater swung that pendulum the wrong way and we will never see it swing back. So what is working for the Conservatives?   I would put political  talk radio as the number one reason we still have a strong conservative movement. People tuned into this Rush guy on the radio, and found someone who thought like they did. It was a phenomena, and the popularity of conservative talk radio just grew and grew, and it is still growing.
