What's the problem for Sotomayor?  Is there so much work she can't get to her favorite beauty shop as often?  Anyway, if I were she, I'd find another "beauty" shop because hers isn't getting the job done. **nononono*

SCOTUS ‘Benchslaps’ Recalcitrant Federal District Court Judge
The majority won’t reassign the case to a different judge — yet — while dissenting Justice Sotomayor complains the Trump administration ‘has the Supreme Court on speed dial’

By Andrew R. Arthur on July 8, 2025

My colleague George Fishman and I have analyzed the Supreme Court’s June 23 response to an order issued by U.S. district Judge Brian Murphy in D.V.D. v. DHS. That lower court order imposed onerous (and extra-statutory) burdens on the department in removing aliens to “third countries”, that is, nations that aren’t the alien’s country of birth, residence, or nationality. As I then noted, Judge Murphy quickly pushed back, and for his trouble has earned what’s called a “benchslap” from the Supreme Court that includes a concurrence by Justice Kagan — who dissented from the Court’s initial order. Dissenting Justice Sotomayor meanwhile fired a few salvos of her own in the direction of her majority colleagues.

Judge Murphy’s Initial Order
On April 18, 2025, Judge Murphy imposed a preliminary injunction that impeded the administration’s ability to deport aliens to third countries.

That preliminary injunction required DHS to: give written notice to any alien under a final order facing removal to a third country; provide those aliens an opportunity to raise a claim they would be tortured in that third country; move to reopen an alien’s immigration court case if the alien had shown a “reasonable fear” of harm in that third country; and give those aliens 15 days prior to removal to move to reopen their cases if DHS didn’t find they had a reasonable fear.

ICE Busts Predator Who “Sexually Assaulted Woman on Independence Day” in Sanctuary State of Oregon

An illegal alien predator who sexually assaulting a female victim on the Fourth of July in the sanctuary state of Oregon was apprehended by federal immigration authorities.

On Friday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrest of Kevin Contreras-Mendoza, a 27-year-old illegal alien from Mexico who launched a “violent, random assault” on a woman on July 4, 2018.

The victim was walking along Southeast Division Street near Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard in Portland when she was ambushed by Contreras-Mendoza , according to authorities.

“Contreras-Mendoza approached the woman from behind, groped her between the legs, and forcibly grabbed her waist. The victim’s screams drew immediate attention from two nearby witnesses, who chased Contreras-Mendoza on foot,” ICE says.

Clearly, he's not in it for the money.  He must actually care about the financial future of this country.
Or he's on another autistic hyperfixation.

Trump’s ICE Detains 1,355 in ‘Sanctuary State’ Colorado

Warner Todd Huston7 Jul 2025575

The Trump administration has quadrupled the arrests of migrants in sanctuary state Colorado, data shows.

The Trump administration has focused on several blue states to fulfill the president’s campaign promise of a crackdown on illegal immigration, and in Colorado that has amounted to a 300 percent increase in ICE apprehensions.

Federal data shows that in the latest period ending on June 10, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested 1,355 people. That compares to the 342 who were picked up during the final year of the Biden administration. That is a 300 percent rise. The arrest rate has averaged about nine per day, according to the Denver Post.

Those taken into custody come from Mexico and Central and South America, as well as foreign countries including Afghanistan.

‘Worst of the Worst’ Criminal Illegal Immigrants Being Sent to Alligator Alcatraz in Florida

by Hannah Knudsen 7 Jul 2025

The “worst of the worst” criminal illegal immigrants are being sent to Alligator Alcatraz — the illegal immigrant detention facility in the Florida Everglades — the Republican Party of Florida emphasized in a press release on Monday.

The Florida GOP highlighted some of the illegal immigrants arrested in Florida showcased by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), noting that the federal agency clearly stated that some of the illegals listed are “the types of violent criminal illegal aliens who could end up being detained at Alligator Alcatraz.”

The criminal histories of the illegals captured by ICE in Florida are extensive. They include but are not limited to homicide, child abuse, forcible rape, kidnapping and sexual assault of a child under 13, vehicle theft, aggravated assault of a police officer, producing and distributing child pornography, and more.

“Thanks to the leadership of President Trump, Governor DeSantis, and Attorney General Uthmeier, these monsters are off our streets,” Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power said in a statement.

Will Mamdani follow a court order he disagrees with?  From all his bluster so far, I would say no.  Will the judge then threaten to hold him in contempt like judges have with Trump?  My guess would be no. **nononono*

‘Good Luck’: Border Czar Tom Homan Dismisses Socialist NYC Mayoral Hopeful Mamdani's Pledge To Block Deportations
‘We’re going to get the bad guys, so if they don’t want to help, get out the way,’ Tom Homan tells Washington Free Beacon

Meghan Blonder
July 7, 2025
Border czar Tom Homan offered a four-word response to New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani’s vow to undermine ICE's operations: "Good luck on that."

"We’re going to be in New York City, and President Trump said it two weeks ago. We’re going to double down, triple down on sanctuary cities. Why? Not because they’re a blue city or a blue state, but because we know that’s where the problem is," Homan said.

Homan’s comments came in response to a Washington Free Beacon question asking if he had a plan to handle Mamdani, New York City’s Democratic nominee for mayor, and his June 25 promise to use his power to "stop masked ICE agents from deporting our neighbors."

"Zohran Mamdani, the likely next mayor of New York City, has promised not to cooperate with you or ICE or with deportations of any kind. Do you have a plan to work around that? How are you going to handle that?" the Free Beacon's Jon Levine asked on Monday.

Extreme weather expert Dr. Roger Pielke Jr. on The Texas Flash Floods: ‘A tragedy that should never happen again’ – ‘Occurred in a location that has among the greatest risks in the nation of flash flooding’

By Roger Pielke Jr.:  Hoyt and Langbein 1940 identified south central Texas as being among the regions of the United States with the greatest risk of flooding.
The flooding was certainly extreme but it should not have been historically unexpected. The documented record of extreme flooding in “flash flood alley” goes back several centuries, with paleoclimatology records extending that record thousands of years into the past.
Consider the figure above, from a classic 1940 historical text on U.S. floods, which shows that the same region of Texas that experienced this week’s floods has long been known to be a bullseye for flash flooding. In fact, almost a century before Hoyt and Langbein, Texas experienced one of the greatest losses of life in U.S. history related to extreme weather. ...
The data show considerable variation across the U.S. but also no indication of an increase in this metric for “flash flood alley” over this 42-year analysis. ...  The IPCC AR6 WG1 concluded the following on U.S. river floods:
There is limited evidence and low agreement on observed climate change influences for river floods in North America (Section 11.5). Trends in streamflow indices are mixed and difficult to separate from river engineering influences, with large changes but little spatial coherence across the USA, making it difficult to identify trends with confidence . . .
