Millennials seem to think it matters. I personally do not give a hoot. Do you?
-
Doesn't matter.
-
I need a radio button for 'yes and no'.
I have one washer and two dryers -- one which matches the washer and one which doesn't.
But no, in the end, I don't give a hoot. As long as it dries the clothes efficiently, I'm a happy camper.
-
I have two sets that all match, but I don't give a flip if they do or not. It just worked out that way.
As for "maters", I prefer mine home grown.
-
I don't own either I have to go to the laundromat

I figure the only time it would make sense, would be if you were selling you home with appliances. Matched pair would be better aesthetically I guess.
-
Yes. Too inconvenient to go to the laundromat. I rather do my laundry in the comfort of my home.
-
Another poll idea.
Does your fridge have a water gadget? Mine doesn't. I'd love to be sble to make icee and ware through my fridge door.

i have both water and ice dispenser. There is no need to get my water or ice from the store. All I need is to change the filter every 4 or 5 months.

Water/ Ice maker was a great invention. Would never own a fridge without one.
Can remember those stinking ice trays with those metal levers to break the ice out of the tray.. Of course in those days that kind of busy work was given to us kids.

Those were the days.I still keep the trays in case I run out of ice.

Sort of. Washer quit. Replacement computer board cost more than a new washer. Bought a newer version of the same model, floor model.
Don't care as long as it works well.

I have the floor model.
-
No match here.
My dryer is currently in the garage where it went when I replaced the floor in the laundry room. I'll have a crowd here on the 16th and con someone into helping me bring it back in. I don't use it much during the summer anyway. That's what the clothesline is for.

No. When we bought our frig, I was insistent that it not have the icemaker.
Of course, I'm such a luddite, when we built the house I said don't bother putting in a dishwasher. That will affect the resale value, I'm sure.

LOL! Sounds kinda like home. My mom had her good washer and dryer upstairs for the rest of the family... And the old set in the basement for my dad's clothes, and mine, and horse blankets and such....
-

LOL! Likewise.
no dishwasher. Silliest thing ever made. No ice-maker. with two freezers (one big upright and one huge horizontal), ice ain't a problem. I keep drinking water, sweet tea, and lemonade in the fridge, anyway. And I like tray ice better.
-
The reason it matters to me is that when one or the other goes out on a person it does matter to, they run out and get another matched set and sell the good one for cheap in the want ads.
-
Mine are matching. (It's the least dear husband could do, since he won't provide me with a cleaning staff.) :tongue2:
-
Isn't it a sin to have unevenly yoked appliances?
-
I don't care if they are or aren't. But for the love of Gawd...level them both to the same height if they sit sideXside
-

I bet you straighten pictures on the wall.
-
I bet you straighten pictures on the wall.
Only if they are crooked.
-
Technically, no, though you've not know it to look at them. They are both LG appliances, but the dryer is one tier down from the washer. When our last washer died, we got the fanciest top-loading LG model on deep sale, then about half a year later used premiums earned from that to help pay for a new dryer, also LG, but cheaper than the "matching" dryer, before the premiums expired. (The dryer hadn't died, but it was old).
-
Nope mine don't match and I really don't care. They are older models and work great (knock on wood). The dryer is about 20 years old and is a Kenmore 90 super capacity plus and the washer is about 15 years old and is a GE King Size capacity, energy star efficient. I can fit a king comforter in the dryer and I can fit a queen comforter in the washer. The washer is an older model but has several different settings for clothes type and water temperature and has an extra rinse and extra spin cycle. I wouldn't part with either one of them for the newer models. Why spend the money? The clean and dry just fine. Yes, they are both the same height and the same color (white).
The real poll should be what laundry detergent do you use?
I use Tide plus bleach powder. I will NOT use anything else; not even Tide liquid (I tried it and it stained my whites).
-
Another poll idea.

Nope. I see enough ice half the year to last me through the rest, and seldom drink iced drinks.

We didn't want the plumbing headaches in a 100 year old house, no dishwasher machine either.
-
Not only are they a matched set they sit on top of each other and get to do the koochy coo when one of them is turned on...

You must have the María del Rosario Mercedes Pilar Martínez Molina Baeza model, or just Charo for short.

When my old washer and dryer croaked at the same time, I was desperate. Dead of winter, bad weather, couldn't get out. Finally, one day there was a break in the weather, so I went to Home Depot. I'm particular about washers and dryers. Washer had to be a top loader with a traditional agitator. Dryer door had to fold down instead of open sideways. Could not find a matching set with those specifications, so I now have a Whirlpool washer and a GE dryer. Both were on clearance, so I got a good deal on them. I'm the only one who goes to the laundry area in the basement and I frankly don't care whether they match, as long as they do the job.

I have always been partial to the Sears Kenmore brand.
-
I have always been partial to the Sears Kenmore brand.
You couldn't pay me to take a Sears product anymore. My parents bought all their appliances, tools, lawnmowers, home goods and sometimes clothes and shoes from Sears. When I grew up, I continued the family tradition. Now Sears merchandise is cr@p. Last appliance from Sears was a Kenmore refrigerator. The crisper drawers won't open or close. Cheap plastic. Sad what has become of a once reputable store and reliable brands.
-
I use Tide plus bleach powder. I will NOT use anything else; not even Tide liquid (I tried it and it stained my whites).
Mine don't match.
No ice/water thingy on fridge, though I wish I had one.
It's a joke with my Mom that she gives me big jugs of Tide, a tradition that started when she once overstocked during a great sale. (I prefer Tide with Febreze, though. An uncommon luxury I allow myself.)
Also, half a dose of Oxyclean per load.
-

Remind me to never borrow a pair of socks from you. I'm allergic to both Tide and to bleach.
We used to use Wisk, but now we use Cheer Free. Pretty much everything else causes me and Sons #2 and #5 to break out in itchy bumps.
And as far as the other question, I'm keeping my external water/ice dispenser, thank you very much. It keeps the boys from opening the refrigerator door every 20 minutes all summer long. (Now they just open it every 30 minutes to grab a little snack.)
-
All of the Sears stores in our vicinity have closed, so future appliances will be something other than Kenmore, though we've been fairly satisfied with the Kenmore washer, dryer, refrigerator, range and microwave we've had at various times (the washer conked out and the current one is GE, I believe).

Yep, we have a matched set. Until this spring we were still using the Whirlpool set that my husband had in his apartment before we met and married. Every time the washer broke down we had it fixed because I did not want a front loader that required HE detergent. Finally the repairman said go ahead and get a new one, so we got a Speed Queen set with a top loader. LOVE THEM. No plastic parts, made to last for 25 years, and you can have hot water and regular Tide detergent.

YEP. For the christening of my house, after the remodel, my uncle bought me the matched set from SpeedQueen... Extra heavy duty, Large capacity, still has mechanical controls.
He's in the business. Fixes appliances for a living. Only thing he recommended was that set. Nothing else will do, according to him. And I believe him.
All I know is that except for bedding (pretty much 3x year for the big quilts), I don't even make those machines grunt. other than my daughters-in-law coming over when their machines are buried... I'll probably have em till I die...

The guy who fixes our appliances said the same thing---get Speed Queen. I wish they made dishwashers. I'm going to need a new one before too long and it would be an easy choice.

Heh. I AM my dishwasher. Left that out of my build on purpose. Rare that I have any big doings over here. Mostly just me, and maybe a lady friend now and then... And I know it sounds strange, but I find doing dishes to be cathartic.

Nope, not strange at all. I don't mind washing dishes either. But the germphobe in me likes to throw things that come into contact with raw meat and raw vegetables into the dishwasher, and use a detergent containing bleach on them.

Just the opposite - A chemical-phobe like me avoids all that. I am not a Luddite, but I am heading that way. I have chlorine in the house, but I rarely use it (I am allergic). Dawn dish soap and white vinegar are my go-to cleaners.
Heck, half the time I eat steak sawed off a deer, cooked on a rock and served on a bark plate, wild onions right out of the dirt, and berries right off the bush... And drink water straight from the creek... I ate my lunch yesterday sitting on the manure pile. Germs ain't an issue for me.
-
When we moved into the house, it came with a washer/dryer. Washer was GE and it conked out about 2 years ago, we bought a Samsung frontloader, high efficiency. Works pretty good.
The dryer just keeps on going. The thing won't die. I refuse to buy something new unless the old thing dies. My wife wants a new dryer just because our's is old. I just don't get that.

Oh, I love my disinfectants and my bleach. I only buy white towels, washcloths, and kitchen textiles because they're all going to be Cloroxed.
When my husband and I were dating, he used to wonder why his colored towels and cloths had a faint sour smell after a few days, though he washed them in hot water and dried them on high. Bacteria breeding was the culprit. I took over for him and fixed that, lol.

@Weird Tolkienish Figure
I generally agree with you...repair them as long as you can. With us, the washer was dead. We could have technically just bought a washer and waited for the dryer to die. But that was going to happen very soon anyway---it had been fixed repeatedly, and was taking forever to dry a load.
-

@CatherineofAragon
Thanks... I'll stay on the porch.
I am probably allergic to a lot of that stuff... It isn't an allergy really... More a reaction to toxins. Most perfumes and cleaners mess me up... The only perfume that doesn't stink (actually smells good) is the natural stuff. I can tell in two seconds whether you'd be wearing a lilac perfume made in an industrial factory or if it is made from lilac extracts. The one will lock my throat and swell my eyes, and stinks to me... the other does nothing but smell good.
Same with soaps and such. Same with most detergents and cleaners.

Where I live, there are a few Mom and Pop appliance stores around. I think next time I need a new appliance, that's where I'm going. My first refrigerator came from a local shop (now closed -- the owner retired) and I was happy with it. As I mentioned before, my current one is a Kenmore and I hate it. Big box stores just don't treat you as well as the local guys.

@Polly Ticks
Oh, wow, I completely understand that! You don't mess with strep. I hope he feels better very soon.
Our longtime friend and car mechanic got strep last year and ended up with a heart complication. That kind of thing is very rare, but it made me think.

I know about that. My kids as well. Every time they clean the carpet in the church, my eyes itch and water and my nose runs for the next 3 or 4 services.
All hard floors in our house.
-
I think I'll start a new poll since this one has exceeded my wildest expectations. Keeping with my Home is where the heart is type thread iwas thinking something along the lines of "Do your Drapes match your Carpet"?
What do you think?
-
Have a new energy saver electric dryer. Now it takes 2 hrs. to dry the same laundry load that used to dry in 40 min.
Ditto my new energy saver Bosch dishwasher. Bosch........no drying cycle.............takes 2 1/2 hrs to wash a normal load of dishes. Ha ha.......and the dishes are wet.

@ConstitutionRose
I'm alright with carpet, and carpet cleaning generally - Although I look for non-scented soap to do that with - But Carpet Fresh makes my head explode. I can't even enter therein. When I might comment, I will generally be told they just had the carpet professionally cleaned... And I have to tell them that no, that isn't what happened... That's Carpet Fresh, and they just took you for a ride and pocketed the money. That happens quite often. **nononono*
Used to not even be able to get within 4 aisles of the detergents, hygiene, and perfume areas of stores... Now that I am pretty divorced (heh, heh...a little inside joke there) from that kind of thing, I seem to be more tolerant. Though a lady friend suggested she liked clean shaven and cologne... So I done it. That Old Spice nearly wrecked me. I mean just shy of heading to the hospital. I have an old bottle here for special occasions, which doesn't bother me, but the new stuff flat knocked me out. So I will retain the old one, and use it sparingly, and the fifty bucks worth of various hygiene products I bought to please her hit the garbage can.

I guess that poll wouldn't be for me. Unless sheets thumbtacked over windows count.

If at all possible get the appliance you have repaired. Even in it's old age it is preferable to the so called energy saving appliances.

When our dryer went out this winter we got a Kenmore high capacity dryer at Habitat for Humanity. Really dries clothes fast. I put the other dryer on the porch and fixed it when the weather was better. And...it is still on our porch. It is an Affinity by Frigidaire. The Kenmore has it beat by a long shot.

Thanks to your federal government, everything that used to work well don't anymore.
And God help you if you're thinking about repairs. My last laundry set had a motherboard in each. Both conned out the same day. The boards can't be repaired, so they have to be replaced. Would have cost me $700 plus labor and all that other jazz they tack onto repair bills, and there were no guarantees the replacement motherboards would have lasted much longer. So I decided to buy new. Got a good deal since the washer and dryer were from the previous year's stock. Would have been less expensive than trying to fix the old ones.

Motherboard death was the final blow to the Whirlpool duet set we had. Never again.

Speed Queen! No computerized parts, no plastic parts, built to last for 25 years, commercial quality. They have a little thing where you can override the government's regulation of only having so much water for a large load.

Centuries ago when I lived in an apartment building with no laundry, I used to go to the laundromat nearby. All Speed Queen washers and dryers and they were very good. I think I will take your advice when my current laundry pair croaks.
-
I had a 60's vintage Kenmore gas dryer. I should have never replaced it. Worked like a champ. The hot wire gas igniter burned out, so I upgraded it to a light dimmer powered car coil ignitor.
After that all I had to do was periodically lube the blower bushing. And replaced the belt once.

I just looked up Speed Queen on Craigslist to see what used ones were going for and I found this, which I think I would rather have. Screw the laundry.
