President Trump said Wednesday his administration would take action later today to help secure the border, a possible sign that he is about to announce a formal plan to use the U.S. National Guard toward that effort.

“Our Border Laws are very weak while those of Mexico & Canada are very strong,” Trump tweeted Wednesday. “Congress must change these Obama era, and other, laws NOW! The Democrats stand in our way - they want people to pour into our country unchecked....CRIME! We will be taking strong action today.”

Migrant caravan abandons plan to travel to US border

A caravan of Central American migrants whose trek across Mexico infuriated President Donald Trump has decided not to travel to the US border, leaders said Tuesday.

"We will wrap up our work in Mexico City," said Irineo Mujica, the head of the migrant advocacy group People Without Borders (Pueblo sin Fronteras).

...Instead of traveling to the U.S. border as originally planned, the caravan will disband in Mexico City, after some of the hundreds of migrants request documents to stay in Mexico.

But others will continue on their own to the U.S. to apply for asylum, Alex Mensing, an organizer with the advocacy group Pueblo Sin Fronteras, told The Arizona Republic.
