“It’s really sad because he probably suffered for at least two or three hours before he died, possibly more,” a resident said.

Story at a glance

A communal peacock well-known in the Azalea Heights neighborhood of California was found shot and killed on June 30.

On June 13, an ad appeared on Craigslist looking to “get rid of a wild peacock that is disrupting our lives by any means necessary.”

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and has identified a potential suspect.

So, it took a village to whack the bird?

I could be wrong, but I think peacocks (and pea hens) are not native to Humboldt County. All the same, if it was a nuisance, it should have been handled more mercifully.

Are they as bad as Canadian Geese? Those things will cover surrounding areas with goose crap in an amazingly short time. I call them Canadian Crap Factories.

Peacocks are loud as hell. And they have no schedule like a rooster. They scream all the time.
Read about an upscale neighborhood that had about 20 of them living there wild.
Same story as always. Somebody bought a few for the beauty and they escaped and went feral.
The noise was intolerable to the point where it was affecting property values.
Did not see the follow up article. So I never found out how they solved the problem.
Doubt it was a Craigslist hitman though ...
