For the love of God, would all the luddites just wake up and accept that the only way to save the Earth is to destroy it? Who cares how many Raptors and other birds are slaughtered by wind turbines...(non sequitur) cats kill millions too(so who gives a crap if a few million more die) painting one blade black increases visibility...tell that to the thousands upon thousands of pollinators called bats slaughtered that fly at night and don't see the blades.

All this 'technology'/ Green energy we don't need because we have such an abundance of oil and natural gas available that has become cleaner every decade to produce electricity and power our transportation is just wet dreams of Gaia worshipers. Call me a luddite but there is some technology we just don't need, like wind turbines that are shut down because the wind is to high or there is no capacity in the grid for their generation, but while they do run they kill raptors, other birds, pollinators and oh yeah whales. Then we have solar, which is covering and eliminating from other use thousands of acres of desert(that recreational use was forbidden because nature) and an added benefit of these green solar farms is that some of them make wonderful incinerators for birds too! Why is it that when someone wants to develop areas in the California desert the Gaia worshiping greens always bitch and moan and find some plant, insect or animal to stop the project but they never give a damn about plants, insects or animals when it comes to solar?

Yup, when it comes to green bullshit you can call me a luddite and I'll wear the badge proudly.

Thanks Hawk

I'd forgot and totally overlooked the bats, which have no defense versus these killing machines.

Carbon River Company  out of TN has been recycling wind turbine blades for quite some time now.

I never said the technology wasn't available.  But there is a big difference in the feasibiity and cost effectiveness versus it's mere availability.  Obviously you are over your head in understanding how industry works.  Snake oil abounds, but only nimrods like you think that what might work in a small scale or in convienent locations applies to every scenario.  Especailly when you are talking large parcels of land, and extreme distances to recyling locations

So keep digging.  Your naivety is breath taking.  You really think the owners of these will meet post closure requirements, after the project/equipment life?  If this was such the case, why are there still Superfund sites being serviced, even after (san >1980) RCRA promulgation.  You've overstepped your understanding, and I'd quit if I was you, before embarassing yourself futher.
As for bird deaths: They are also using acoustics, radar etc

No doubt there may be some tech advances to slightly improve in that area.  Every other aspect of this is negative.  Disposal...   Ruining aesthetics.....   Efficieny......Reliabilty (wind speed req,),  preventive maintenance logistics..... etc. and on and on

As for renewable land use.

2000 acres are lost every day mostly to housing developments and industry and roads. The amount going to renewable industry is a very small amount.

Good point, if it was a viable industry.  But it isn't.  It's a left wing sponsored and funded boondoggle.

At first I thought you were ignorant  but have come to the realization you are paid troll for the fossil fuel industry. How many other boards are you spewing with you misinformation crap?

I've already provided details of  my previous experience and credentials on these matters, what's yours dumbass? Keep up with the personal attacks....   You've lost the argument and the narrative.   p.s.  The only paid troll, I see here is a "non-conservative enviro-whacko", spewing his eft wing bullshit.  Prove me wrong.

I knew Juan Epstein.
Juan Epstein was a friend of mine.
Joe Biden is no Juan Epstein.

Nice compellation of Joe's version of "I've Been (Raised) Everywhere, man"

:pondering: Why is it that number 11 on my list would have been lift lid on trash receptacle and deposit.
No different than eating shrimp, crawfish, crab, or lobster, which are simply scavenging 'cleanup bugs' that live in water.

However other than one or two just for the experience, would probably not pig-out on Cicadas unless I was really hungry and without food. People around the world eat all kinds of bugs routinely for that exact reason. Bugs are good protein. Western culture is fortunate.

I'm not going to lose my $h!t because Eastern Massachusetts had a late Last Frost last year, which killed farmers' peaches and my trumpet lillies.

I'll adapt - this year, I'll plant perennials that are more cold hardy.

I live in USDA Zone 6, but I prefer perennials that are hardy for USDA Zone 4 and below.

Statistical avergages hide the extremity and variation of the underlying data.  On "average", the USDA classifies my area as USDA Zone 6, but every so often we can experience Winter low temperatures that are usually classified for USDA Zone 5 or 4.

These are the climate hysteria's I have experienced in my lifetime so far ...

- Hole in the Antarctic Ozone Layer
- Nuclear Winter
- Global Cooling
- Acid Rain
- Yellow Rain
- Global Warming
- Global Climate Change

If this was 12,000 years ago, Global Climate Change harpies would be crying the retreat of the Laurentide Ice Sheet is going to disrupt climate and environment - which it did, and as climate changed, new environments evolved in the areas once covered by Laurentide Ice.  Life adapted, and continued on.

If people are that worried about the impending doom of Climate Change, build yourselves a bunker, wear matching track suits, and drink poisoned Kool-Aid the next time there is a late Last Frost or an early Killing Frost.  That's what cults do.

Ingredients:
36   Cicadas, wings removed
3/4 cup   Flour
1/4 cup   Cornstarch
1   Egg, large
8 oz   Sprite, or other clear carbonated soda
1 tbsp   Thai Seasoning, or other spiced chili seasoning
2 quarts   Vegetable Oil (for frying)

Sriracha Aioli:
1/2 cup   Mayo
1/4 cup   Sriracha
1 tbsp   Lime Juice

Directions:
  • Once you’ve caught your cicadas, seal them in a bag and freeze for minimum two hours. This is the most humane way to put them to sleep.
  • After a few hours and while cicadas are still frozen, remove the wings by pinching between your fingers and gently pulling away from the head.
  • Rinse frozen, wingless cicadas under warm water. Place on baking tray or cutting board and pat dry.
  • Over a medium-high grill, heat vegetable oil to 350°F in turkey fryer.
  • In a large bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, and Thai lime seasoning (or any spicy seasoning you have on hand). Then add in egg and Sprite, mixing until well combined.
  • Chill this mixture (tempura batter) for at least 30 minutes. If batter is too thin, add flour. If too thick, add Sprite.
  • Prepare the aioli by whisking together sriracha, mayo, and lime juice until smooth. Refrigerate until it’s time to serve.
  • Once tempura batter is chilled, sort cicadas into batches of 5-8 (depending on the size of your turkey fryer).
  • TIP: Use a thermometer to keep an eye on the temperature of the oil while frying, and never overcrowd!
  • Dip cicadas into batter one at a time before gently dropping into heated oil. Cook 3-5 minutes until golden-brown and crispy. Remove from oil to drain and season with coarse salt. Repeat process for all cicadas.
  • Serve warm with chill sriracha aioli for a spicy, crunchy, unbelievable snack!
