Republicans mock Biden for debate video edits and question fitness to face Trump

Republican lawmakers are calling into question President Joe Biden’s mental acuity after he accepted an invitation to debate former President Donald Trump, suggesting the incumbent president will be unable to form coherent arguments onstage in front of an audience.

Biden challenged Trump to accept the debates in a video posted on X on Wednesday morning, claiming the former president “lost two debates to me” when they first ran against each other in 2020. However, many Republicans ripped into the 14-second video for its edits, which critics said prove Biden won’t be able to perform in a high-stakes debate.

“Biden’s video has 5 cuts in 13 seconds,” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) said in a post on X. “What will Biden do in a debate when his many handlers can’t edit and splice his sentences together[?]”

The Trump campaign also criticized the video, calling it a “total disaster.”

“In a super short 14 second video, the Biden campaign needed to do 5 jump cuts because Crooked Joe couldn’t deliver a clean reading,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a post on X.

A lawyer who once worked for Michael Cohen accused him on Wednesday of perjuring himself during his testimony this week in former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial.

Bob Costello, a longtime criminal defense attorney, told Congress that when Cohen took the stand on Tuesday and accused Costello of pressuring him to stay quiet about Trump in 2018, he was lying.

“I read Michael Cohen’s testimony from yesterday’s trial in New York on the way down on the train, and virtually every statement he made about me is another lie,” Costello said

Trump should demand that nobody he debates be allowed to use an earpiece, including the Democrat moderators.
It would genuinely make the debate more fair and more interesting.

Pelosi: I Would Never Recommend Biden Go on Stage with Trump

Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Wednesday on CNN’s “Inside Politics” that she would recommend against President Joe Biden debating former President Donald Trump.

Political analyst Nia-Malika Henderson said, “Donald Trump is going to throw everything at the wall.”

Host Dana Bash said, “Well, on that note, I want you guys to listen to what Nancy Pelosi told our Manu Raju, after hearing about these debates.”

On Capitol Hill, Pelosi said, “I myself would never recommend going on with stage with Donald Trump, but the president has it is decided that’s what he wants to do. I think format he has suggesting is a good one.”

Pelosi added, “I think you all should have separate town hall meetings with them, let them challenge them with questions about the future and let the public make its decision.”

Bash said, “As you were saying.”

Henderson said, “Yeah, no, I think that’s right. That idea of do you sort of elevate Trump? Do you give a platform to his many, many lies about everything by debating him?”

National affairs correspondent Jeff Zeleny said, “I asked an aide about that. Like isn’t this risky? They’re like, not debating is even riskier because it looks like he’s hiding out. It looks like he’s not up to it.”

FCC Sets Reinstatement Date For Diversity Data Collection
By Radio Ink
May 7, 2024

Back in February, the Federal Communications Commission decided, by 3-2 party-line vote, to reinstate the annual requirement for broadcasters to submit Form 395-B, which collects employee data on race, ethnicity, and gender after being inactive for two decades.

The FCC’s Media Bureau announced that the associated Fourth Report and Order and the Order on Reconsideration were published in the Federal Register on May 3 and will officially take effect on June 3.

However, compliance with new or modified information collection requirements outlined in these documents will await the completion of a review by the Office of Management and Budget under the Paperwork Reduction Act. The Media Bureau will issue a subsequent Public Notice to inform the public of the compliance dates once they are established.

This move, led by FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, aims to provide insights into workforce diversity within the radio and television sectors. ...

Nevada Saw A Flood Of Ballots Pour In Post-Election Day 2022
M.D. Kittle

As a Nevada law allowing mail ballots received up to four days after Election Day to be counted faces a legal challenge, a fresh look at Nevada’s 2022 vote count reveals the potentially election-flipping number of mail ballots that were counted despite arriving after Election Day. In just Clark County, nearly 40,000 mail ballots were counted that arrived in the days after voting supposedly ended, roughly 5 percent of the county’s total ballot count.

In that same election, Republican Senate candidate Adam Laxalt led Democrat incumbent Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto on election night but eventually lost by less than 8,000 votes statewide. For comparison, two years prior, Joe Biden narrowly beat Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election in Nevada by 33,596 votes.

In the closing days of battleground Nevada’s crucial 2022 U.S. Senate race, Laxalt pulled ahead of incumbent Cortez Masto. On Oct. 21, leftist organ Politico fretted over news that Laxalt had “inched ahead” of Cortez Masto as a “bad sign” for Dems, considering the former Nevada attorney general was down by 3 points a month earlier.

“Cortez Masto was long seen as the most vulnerable Democratic incumbent in the Senate, the most likely to fall should a ‘red wave’ sweep the country and punish Democrats this midterm season,” wrote Vox senior politics reporter Christian Paz shortly after the election.
