British tabloid The Daily Mirror used its front page to hit President Trump for sitting in former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s chair.
“How dare you,†the headline on the Mirror’s front page on Saturday reads.
“You insult our country, attack our NHS, embarrass our Queen, undermine our ‘special relationship,’ humiliate our PM…and then smugly pose in Winston Churchill’s armchair,†the front page states.

Take it up with Sir Winston's ghost.
After Half of the RAF fighter pilots died in 1940 to repulse invaders, US GI training came with severe admonitions to Not bed the British girls. They were That overjoyed to have us there.
Labor has been as pernicious to Britain as our Rats have been to us.
Sitting in a chair, or bouncing in your sister's bed?
I'm thinking Sir Winston would be fit to be tied over this paper's 'Bloody Cheek'.
-
I suspect he was invited.
-
I suspect he was invited.
I suspect you're right.
-
That's a nice looking chair. I'd sit in it too.
-
Oh, so NOW the British Left love Churchill.
They've been trying to do everything in their power to remove Churchill from British History.
-
As Harry Flashman would have it;
"That, Sir, will be twice too much more than half enough!"
-
Pffft. The Brits disdain Churchill these days. Too much of a antiquated conservative relic.
The Queen, no pun intended, doth protest too much.
-
Churchill, Britain's best modern leader, was half American. His best half.
-
@mystery-ak
I have been to Chequers, Winston Churchill's home. One can view the rooms but not go in. They let Trump into the room to sit in the chair. There are recordings of his speeches outside the rooms that one can start if wanting to hear them. The place is like Churchill, really, really, big.
-
Churchill was not one to stand overmuch on ceremony.
In Washington he greeted FDR's knock on his door dripping wet from the tub, stark naked.

Churchill is my all-time favorite historical figure. The fact he could come back after such a bungle as Gallipoli, says a lot about the man's character.

That's what I thought, too. It's a cool old chair...love the color.
The British press sounds like

Looks to me that Mr. Trump struck up EXACTLY the right pose for Churchill's chair... ;)

Methinks Churchill would have great respect for President Trump.

Hmmm...don't remember the Sun getting upset when Obama got rid of the bust of Winston from the oval office...

Had it been Trump and not FDR in '41 I'm thinking our POTUS wouldn't have needed the pretext of over 2,000 Americans murdered at Pearl Harbor, which FDR Engineered, to come to Britain's aid.
-
the source told the paper.
If I were "royalty" of this former power, saved twice by the US, I would not snub their leader.
Common sense.

FDR engineered Pearl Harbor?

FDR engineered Pearl Harbor?
Had 4 days notice (perhaps more) the Japanese Fleet with aircraft carriers were coming.
FDR sat on it.
-
Proper respect for Churchill would have been for Trump to stand beside the chair instead of sitting in it.

I’m assuming that it was fine with Trump’s hosts for him to sit in the chair, or it wouldn’t have happened.
If he had done so without permission, I’d condemn him, too. Regardless of the “we saved your butts†bluster, there’s no excuse for misconduct with a country’s preserved historical items.

I would have stood by it to give honor to the man whose chair it was.

“If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.â€
How anyone could believe that Churchill would be upset by Trump sitting in his chair is beyond reason.

@To-Whose-Benefit?
Since Churchill is dead, he can't be consulted. It would be up to whomever is responsible for care of the place. Right?
I mean, if you were visiting, would you barge in and yell "Churchill wouldn't care!" and plop down in it? Come on, you wouldn't and you know it.
I'm sure Trump had permission, so I don't see the problem anyway.

I can't see Trump offering the Insult of just making free with Churchill's possessions on his own.
What I can imagine is Churchill's Spirit smiling down, approving of someone else taking up his battle in his absence.
Chamberlain issued the Declaration of War against Germany but the work fell to Churchill 8 months later.
And now that Britain has been invaded and over run by hostile, aggressive foes I can Imagine Churchill smiling at the man who Is willing to stand up to the invaders, the onslaught against all Sir Winston cherished and hoped for.

@Right_in_Virginia
Really?
Yes really. Advanced age is a blessing, not bubble wrap. If dame Vicky wants to tango with me and defend her BS ... I will accommodate her.

@Right_in_Virginia
Oh shut the heck up...you’ll post your usual utterly baseless drivel, then you’ll say make some comment implying your life is so much better than all of lowly people here on TBR, (despite the fact that you are, God help us all, ALWAYS here). Then you’ll post some passive aggressive emoji. So talk big and bad if you want oh mighty keyboard warrior, but we’re all on to your game and know you’ll just run away...again.

@Right_in_Virginia
You're right, age isn't bubble wrap, and @Victoria33 doesn't need it. Trust me.
But the painkillers remark? You've seen her posts about not being able to get opioids, so that was low as hell. For that, you won't "tango" with her alone, and I don't just dance. I make the floor my own.
Your decision.

@To-Whose-Benefit?
I agree, Trump had permission to sit in the chair. Still, do you think it's a little overwrought to make him Churchill's successor?

Also agree that he had permission and really think this is WAY too much ado about nothing.

Hold it, I didn't vote for any of those, did you? Bet you did, two GOPe establishments and one the GOPe knew they could control (and have so far for the most part ie.. spending, PP funding, etc..).
On Subject, it would of been funny if Trump pulled a Churchill and took a nap in the chair in the middle of the day. The leftist really would of had a fit.

I find that graphic a bit confusing. Wasn't it Reince Priebus, who was the chair of the Republican party at the time, the one who helped Trump finagle get the candidacy? How much more "establishment" could he get?

Trump doesn't put away a quart of gin a day while burning the War candle at both ends and in the middle.

LOL Y'all are arguing about a chair.

Let's put this discussion about dancing the Tango and painkillers behind us, and talk about the Topic, shall we?

LOL Y'all are arguing about a chair.
Pretty sure I know what Winnie would have said about this: "Better to jaw-jaw than war-war."
-
LOL Y'all are arguing about a chair.
I was just thinking that! People are arguing what the long-dead half-American war-time prime minister of England would have thought about an American president sitting in "his" chair 50+ years after he died and didn't need the chair anymore. Sheesh.

Make what you will of it, but yes, I see similarities.
Europe is not 'about to be invaded'.
It has already been invaded by people who want to destroy it.
Twice in the previous century America had to go save Europe from itself.
Heaven Forfend, but it appears America is going to have to go do it again sometime in This Century.
