Title: NLDS Game Five: Cardinals v. Braves, live thread
Post by: EasyAce on October 09, 2019, 09:24:50 pm
I'm not going to say stick a fork in the Braves just yet but the Cardinals just dropped a NINE spot on them in the top of the first, including two bases-loaded walks and three two-run doubles two of which were back to back. Starter Mike Foltynewicz was chased for Max Friend who gave up the second bases-loaded walk and the back-to-back two-run doubles.

Then Kolten Wong scores on a wild pitch . . . 10-0 Cardinals, mid-first, SunTrust Park . . .

A leadoff walk and a one-out hit don't even begin letting the Braves eat the elephant one bite at a time.

10-0, Cardinals after one full inning.

The ten runs were the most ever scored in any single division series ever, with the Cardinals sending fourteen batters to the plate.

A one-out triple (Tommy Edman) and an immediate RBI double (Paul DeJong) and it's 11-0, Cardinals, middle of the second . . .

That was actually announced this morning.

And right now the thing doing the most to reduce any tomahawk chopping, with or without the foam tomahawks, is the Cardinals . . . they've taken the air right out of the SunTrust Park crowd . . .

ADDENDUM: The Braves said they'd stop the chop only if Cardinals pitcher Ryan Helsley, who complained about it (he's part Cherokee), was in the game pitching.

The Braves finally took their first small bite out of the elephant. Josh Donaldson---one-out home run in the bottom of the fourth.

13-1, Cardinals after four.

For the first time in the game the Cardinals go in order.

But they still lead 13-1, middle fifth.

The Braves push for their first bases-loaded threat of the day but a force out at second ends the inning without a run.

13-1 Cardinals after five . . .

Sean Newcomb in relief for the Braves strikes out a pair and gets a ground out to second, and the Cardinals go in order for the second time in the game.

13-1, Cardinals, middle sixth.

Third straight three up/three down for the Cardinals, Jack Flaherty's day is over after six innings, 13-1 Cardinals going to the bottom of the seventh, Giovanny Gallegos pitching for the Redbirds . . .

Braves reliever Darren O'Day gets a fly out and back-to-back swinging strikeouts, the Cardinals go down in order.

Hard to believe the Braves actually won two games.  In usual fashion, they simply cannot notch it up a level when the playoffs get here.  The Cards on the other hand are masters at it.

@Hoodat
I can almost imagining the Braves wishing they'd done a bullpen game, considering their pen has been shutdown mostly starting in the fourth inning.

Freddie Freeman's two-out double in the eighth goes for naught.

13-1, Cardinals after eight, the Braves approaching their final three outs of the year.

. . . and, after a two-out base hit, Dansby Swanson strikes out swinging and the Cardinals go to the National League Championship Series.

13-1 your final from SunTrust Park.
