Title: Puget Sound grocery workers vote to authorize regionwide strike - Obamacare at root.
Post by: NavyCanDo on September 26, 2013, 06:36:09 pm
SEATTLE - Thousands of Puget Sound grocery workers voted Thursday to authorize a strike over stalled labor contract talks.

The strike authorization was approved by 98 percent of the union members. It allows the union to call a strike and set up picket lines if an agreement is not reached with employers.

Some 30,000 workers at Safeway, Fred Meyer, QFC and Albertson's in the Puget Sound region are affected. The vote comes as grocery store workers say they've reached the last straw.

Union members are upset the company wants to reduce holiday pay, hold wages at current rates, and force part-time workers to get health benefits through the new government health care plan.http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Puget-Sound-grocery-workers-vote-to-authorize-a-strike-225360712.html

This involves Safeway, Albertsons, QFC, and  Fred Meyer, pretty  much covering  everywhere we get groceries here in the Northwest.   The driving force between this labor dispute and many more like it throughout the country is the reduction of the 40 hour work week so employees have to fend for themselves on Health Care using the Obamacare Health Care Exchanges.

In otherwords.. Obamacare caused this.

Yep, and this is going to snowball. One labor union after the other will follow suit once they see the joys of Obamacare kick in.

Ahhh, but Obama will silence union opposition by simply exempting them from the law. We know Obama's in bed with big business and big labor.

Interesting. One of their grievances is that part time workers will be forced to get health benefits through the new government health care plan, and they direct their spleen at their employers instead of atMurray, Cantwell, and representatives like McDermott who are forcing this on them.

I perceive a certain disconnect here.

It should be pointed out that residents of Seattle are very proud of the fact there is no Walmart within Seattle city limits. Walmarts offer groceries and are, as is well known, non-union.

Let you West Siders eat la brioche, assuming they can find any. (Sorry, NavyCanDo)
