‘Art of the Dodge’: NYT Praises Kamala Harris for Avoiding Question

The New York Times’s Michael C. Bender touted Vice President Kamala Harris’s media blitz this week by citing her ability to avoid questions.

Bender’s article is ironic because Harris, who is believed to have sat for a rash of interviews because internal polling reportedly shows her losing the race, failed to name any specific policies she would change from the past four years, undermining her central campaign theme as an agent of change.

For Bender at the Times, however, Harris’s interviews were a work of art.

“This week, Ms. Harris put her own stamp on the art of the dodge,” Bender wrote. “Her media swing showed how she often responds to uncomfortable questions by acknowledging them, yet not fully answering them … She can nimbly field a query and quickly lace her reply with trip wire for her opponent:

A trained prosecutor, Ms. Harris is lawyerly, argumentative and fundamentally defensive. She often deflects or sidesteps. She can speak passionately about her values in a way that leaves listeners feeling as if the question had been acknowledged, even if the substance remained unaddressed. To avoid delineating her stance on some issues, she will instead focus on her dedication to progress and inclusion.

Bender failed to report Harris’s repeated failure to name any specific policy that she would change from the past four years.

It's like jury duty. If I have nothing to do and gobs of time, I'm never called in.
If I have a good job, money rolling in, things to do, they call me.

There is just a cosmic truth to some things in life.

New York’s Illegal Migrant Shelter
The facility located on public parkland at Randall’s Island appears to violate state law.

Oct 10 2024

On August 21, 2023, the Mayor Eric Adams’s administration opened a migrant shelter facility on Randall’s Island. Situated directly across the East River from the New York City Housing Authority’s East River houses, the shelter lies at the end of the Ward’s Island Bridge, a footbridge that enables pedestrians from Manhattan to cross the river to the island. The expansive tent city covers at least four athletic fields. The city quickly erected the facility, known as a Humanitarian Emergency Response & Relief Center (HERRC), under Adams’s emergency declaration, first issued on October 7, 2022, and continually extended thereafter, suspending the city’s land-use review rules and procedures. The “right to shelter” decree permits single adult men aged 23 and older a one-time, 30-day shelter stay in the HERRC. Yesterday, more than a year after it opened, Mayor Adams announced that the city plans to shutter the facility at the end of February 2025.

Since the summer of 2023, the island’s relative seclusion and ample open space have enabled the city to house 3,000 migrants—primarily men from West Africa and Latin America—away from the densely populated neighborhoods of Manhattan and the Bronx on opposite banks of the East River. Despite its isolation, the shelter has faced serious and escalating issues. On July 29 of this year, a migrant woman was shot and killed on one of the island’s soccer fields at 3:30 a.m., with two others injured in the same incident. In August, a man was stabbed near the tents. Later that month, police raided the island to clear out makeshift encampments, littered with trash, that had been set up by migrants whose shelter stays had expired.

The worsening conditions on the island made the shelter’s continued existence politically controversial. Its operation also poses a significant legal issue, overlooked by both city hall and Albany. Randall’s Island, a New York City Park, features soccer and athletic fields that youth clubs and local schools use for practices and games. Now, 9.8 acres of this public parkland have been taken over by the migrant shelter, resulting in the loss of more than 10,000 permit hours for athletic and recreation activities for the city’s youth.

Seems impeachable...

Yes, it does!  However, Republicans don't have enough cajones to pull the trigger. **nononono*

Kamala’s ‘Charm’ Blitzkrieg Fails Miserably
Derek Hunter

There are some people so incompetent that they could blow a tap-in putt. “Hand me the wedge,” they say as they overlook a 2-inch gap. You can’t help these people, even though they are likely the most in need of saving anyone, because you can’t save people from themselves. This, I suspect, is why the handlers of Kamala Harris have chosen to run the campaign they have.

Hiding is the only defense against incompetence. The only problem is that no matter where you hide, there you are. A person can escape a lot, themselves is not one of them.

After two months of hiding not working, as the public notices the Democratic Party’s nominees for president and vice president haven’t really done much talking beyond scripted, vapid stump speeches, the Harris/Walz campaign has decided to launch a “charm offensive.” They decided to let their candidates talk in what can only be described as either uber-friendly or softly-scripted interviews with supporters…and they still did horribly.

You can tell a lot about the amount of faith a campaign has in its candidates by the people they’re willing to talk to. For example, Donald Trump will do pretty anything and to almost anyone, unless they’ve mistreated him in the past.
