Title: Pro-Bolsonaro protesters storm Brazilian Congress, presidential palace
Post by: Free Vulcan on January 08, 2023, 08:25:46 pm
Pro-Bolsonaro protesters have stormed Brazil's National Congress and presidential palace buildings, according to reports.

Supporters of the right-wing former President Jair Bolsonaro refused to accept his defeat by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who was inaugurated on Jan. 1. Crowds of pro-Bolsonaro demonstrators have been protesting outside of military barracks in the capitol Brasilia since the election, pushing the military to launch a coup to wrongly keep Bolsonaro into power. Bolsonaro's claims of election fraud are not supported by any evidence.

Lula was not in the building at the time of the storming, as he was on an official trip to São Paulo state, the BBC reported.

Brazilians are asking for the source code of the electronic ballot boxes to be audited - for more than 2 months. Since the beginning, ppl only desire a fair election process. Because there were a lot of suspicious anomalies and much more.

Hopefully, no unarmed protesters will be brutally murdered by government police as happened with Ashli Babbitt and Rosanne Boyland here in the US.

Carlson said a few months back that Bolsonaro was the one single man keeping South America from being colonized by the Chicoms.

Can't vouch for that, or say it might be a little over-dramaticized POV on his behalf.

But I can say his exit is not in our best long term interest.

I guess my attitude is not my circus, not my monkeys. They are a sovereign nation and the USA really just needs to butt out and let them work thru it.

Lula is pure trash, and I don’t blame them for being upset, but this is not the way to change minds.

Telegram works with Brazilian government to ban support for  pro-Bolsonaro protesters.

Telegram and other social media platforms  Monday announced a ban on content supporting protesters who broke into  Brazil's Supreme Court, presidential office and Congress on Sunday.

Millions of Brazilians have spent months protesting the presidential election, declared in October for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, a Left-wing former president who was imprisoned for corruption. Many insist the election was fraudulent and continue to demand that Right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro retain his seat.

For over two months, demonstrations have plagued Brazil’s cities and streets after voting machine audits found significant voting regularities which may have helped Lula cross the finish line with 50.7% of the vote, the narrowest margin in Brazil’s history.

Lula has vowed to punish Sunday’s protesters, and social media platforms appear to have followed suit, according to Reuters.

Chile got a dictatorship, and Chile is now left wing. Anyone who wants a dictatorship is the enemy IMO. We don't do that in America.

What Chile "got" was the expurgation of communism, which lasted for about 45 years (2 generations' worth), until Chile's current generations seem to have forgotten WHY the Pinochet "dictatorship" was needed to SAVE Chile...

The violence by the Pinochet regime was extraordinary and generations remember its trials, so that they would choose a more left leaning government. Bolsonaro had the same effect with many as he was an ex-military man. He was no Pinochet, but the result was a pendulum swing to the left. So they got Lula. Moderates get lost in the swing. And the lack of civic consciousness in South America is note worthy. Protests are all very much "knee jerk" driven as social media holds court to ignite the masses.

“Brazil is Going Full Gulag. This is the Worst Communist Takeover Ever”
By Richard Abelson
Published January 14, 2023 at 10:15am

The US has begun deporting Brazilian opposition leaders to the Gulags as evidence mounts the Jan. 8 riots were staged. US journalist Glenn Greenwald complained about the Communist takeover he helped enable: Chief Justice Alexandre de Moraes is “making himself chief censor of the world,” Greenwald said. Speaking to Steve Bannon, Brazil obesrver Matt Tyrmand said: “They are going full Gulag. This is the worst Communist takeover ever.”

Senator Marcos do Val says he has new evidence against the incoming leftist Justice Minister Flávio Dino in the so-called “Storm on the National Congress” Jan. 8 and will ask for  Dino’s removal and arrest. ...

At the same time, the new Lula government announced it would press charges against former President Jair Bolsonaro. Chief Justice Alexandre de Moraes approved a request by the Attorney General’s Office to investigate  former President Jair Bolsonaro for “instigation of undemocratic acts” that resulted in “vandalism and violence” in Brasilia last Sunday, Jan. 8.

This particularly ironic because Bolsonaro disappointed many supporters by not calling the elections stolen or taking any steps to prevent the Lula takeover. In 72 days of protests, Bolsonaro spoke to supporters only once, to lead them in prayer in a tearful scene with his wife (Gateway reported).  ... I'm not following this closely enough to have a specific opinion, but I will say in general that there comes a point where the policies of a government are immoral and can be resisted by force even if voted for by the majority.
The 49% don't have to agree to be eaten just because the 51% declare it to be just.

Obviously, the key issue is exactly where that line is to be drawn.

This is true. This can also be a recipe for perpetual civil war.

Society will crumble into something far worse if we have huge civil unrests every time there's a close election.

Of course, "just trust us" isn't going to fly anymore either.

To use a cliche: an immovable object is running into an unstoppable force and i have no idea where it will end up in the next few decades. I don't think it will end well. "Conservatives" believe it will be a cakewalk if "we" win... it won't.

Brazil’s former justice minister Anderson Torres arrested for collusion with rioters
By Jacob Geanous

Brazil’s federal police arrested the country’s former head of public security Saturday on accusations that he colluded with rioters that stormed the presidential palace, Supreme Court, and Congress on Jan. 8.

Anderson Torres, who was in charge of security for the capital city at the time of the riots, was taken into custody at the Brasilia Airport, according to a statement by Brazil’s federal police.

The police nabbed Torres after Brazil’s Supreme Court issued a warrant for his arrest last week, accusing him of failing to act in his role as security chief.

“Omission was amply proven by the predictability of the conduct of criminal groups and the lack of security that enabled the invasion of public buildings,” Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes said, according to BBC.

Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said those responsible for guarding the presidential palace were complicit in allowing rioters to enter government buildings, but Torres, who was the security chief for former President Jair Bolsonaro, has insisted that he is innocent.  ...
