Battle-hardened after two years fighting Islamic State and other Islamist rebel groups in the multi-sided Syrian civil war, Kurdish guerrillas linked to the PKK have in recent weeks made a series of military gains that have spotlighted their growing sway.
The Kurdish region of Syria was largely left to its own devices by the army of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, drawing accusations the PKK’s Syrian branch was in league with Damascus. PKK officials in Syria have denied those accusations.
Last week, the PKK’s Syrian-based units advanced into Iraq and punctured Islamic State lines to help tens of thousands of Yazidis escape an encircled Mount Sinjar. [...]
Syrian commanders say the security and quality of life is improving as their guerrilla forces expand rapidly, propelled by thousands of young volunteers. Recruitment is boosted by the deployment of women soldiers on the front line, often in all-female units.
“The jihadists don’t like fighting women, because if they’re killed by a female, they think they won’t go to heaven,” said one female fighter.
Aldar Khalil, a top PKK official in Syria, said the guerrillas don’t have vast stocks of heavy weapons but can easily buy lighter arms—mostly guns, ammunition and rocket propelled grenades—on the black market from well-established smuggling networks, using contributions from citizens and donations from Europe.

Ridiculous, IMO.
Can't the same thing be accomplished if all bullets and shells are brushed with bacon grease and then wiped before loading?
....or would that compromise accuracy of the shot? :laugh:

I wondered that too. Or, is it a case of the females being like the red-shirted crew members of the Star Trek Enterprise? Expendable and propagandically effective?

So the Kurds are fighting them on a psychological level. Maybe they understand how the war should be fought.
We would do well to learn to fight them on the same level.
It will discourage current fighters and new recruits if they believe they won't get heaven and 72 virgins...

The Kurdish women would have to have a non-muslim aide with them to load the weapons as the women are muslim, too.

The Kurds know EXACTLY what they are dealing with and HOW to deal with it! If we had been helping them all along at the level we should have been we wouldn't be in the mess we now find ourselves!

I think our military and political leaders know this. They simply don't have the political will to do what's necessary to win this war at this point. It would actually cost much less in terms of money and lives to fight this way.
Of course, WW3 between moslems and jews is the goal, so that let's you know where their priorities are...

Not doubting that they are allowing their women into combat roles – when your backs are up against the wall you do what you have to. But don’t expect the Islamist to run in terror for the rear because of it. Israel having girls in combat roles has never had such an effect on the Islamist attacking them. In fact capturing a woman soldier would probably be a highly valued hostage.
