1431: Henry VI of England is crowned King of France at Notre Dame in Paris.

1707: Mt. Fuji erupts for the last time to date.

1773: Boston Tea Party

1811: An earthquake with a magnitude of between 7.2 and 8.1 strikes the central United States near New Madrid, Missouri. This quake would be the first of three quakes of equal or greater magnitude to strike the region of the following two months.

1907: The U.S. battle fleet, nicknamed “The Great White Fleet” due to the color of its battleships, departs Hampton Roads, Virginia on a circumnavigation of the world.

1914: German battle cruisers under the command of Rear Admiral Franz Von Hipper bombard the British coast in an attempt to draw out the British battle cruiser fleet.

1944: Battle of the Bulge begins.

1960: A United Airlines DC-8 collides with a Trans World Airlines Super Constellation over New York City. All 132 passengers on both aircraft are killed.
