George W. Bush to hit fundraising circuit for GOP candidates
BY JOHN BOWDEN - 09/11/18 08:24 PM EDT

Former President George W. Bush is set to headline several fundraisers for GOP candidates in the coming days across Florida and Texas.

Bush will make stops in Tampa and Palm Beach, Fla., on Friday to fundraise for Republican Senate nominee Rick Scott (R) in his bid to unseat Sen. Bill Nelson (D), The Palm Beach Post reports.

Scott's fundraiser in Palm Beach, billed as a $1,000 to $25,000-per-person private event at a yet undisclosed location, will jointly benefit Scott's campaign and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC).

“Gov. Scott is glad to accept the support of President Bush, Vice President Pence, and anyone who shares his views that we need to reform Washington. The governor appreciated the president endorsing his race when he came to Tampa in July,” Scott campaign spokesman Chris Hartline told the newspaper.

This is unexpected. I don't associate any of the Bush family with the GOP. Furthermore, I do not understand why they would want to help the midterms given their expressed animosity toward Trump.

This is likely more of a good thing than bad, but it is still a little strange.

There are Trump supporters still repeating charges Trump the political novice made against Cruz in the primaries, even though it’s now clear there was no utterly substance to them. These folks are waiting for Trump to tell them is ok they can support Cruz now. Cruz probably would welcome their votes.

If GW campaigns with Cruz, it may sway some of the Left leaning Liberal voters who still call themselves Republicans which will currently probably vote Democrat.

This is a good thing.  Even if the Bush family is still angry because Jeb didn't get the nomination, I think GWB still cares about the country.

That family dynamic was interesting.  Jeb was the youngest, his mother's pet, and seemingly everyone's favorite even though he was not that attractive to the rest of the country.  I think the Bush family took his loss and his treatment by Trump deeply to heart.

But I don't know why they would resent Ted Cruz.  Admittedly, Ted won against a Texas establishment guy when he first won the Senate seat but people should be over that by now.

Same happened to me. She sent me a text an hour before I was supposed to pick her up saying she couldn't make it. I said, That's OK. She sent that she was glad I was "taking it so well." From that I knew it was more than being stood up. She was telling me 'it's over'. Which I didn't mind too much.

The sex was great, but other than that we really didn't have much in common. It wasn't going anywhere. So, it worked out for the best. But, that waiting to the last minute was annoying. Procrastination was a big problem with her. I had already bought the tickets online.

So I went with a buddy instead. And the weird thing is, we went to the CheeseCake Factory after the movie and wound up having a great night out. You never know when bad things turn out to be for the best sometimes.

It's all good.  It's a Mom/Daughter thing, 50/18 that I do respect and besides we all get along, anyway.  Unlike my other woman at least her daughter's aren't in Jail.  So I'm a happy camper.  And though I often wonder what sex would be like with her, we haven't reached that bridge to decide whether to burn it or not.

Yea but, if you are neighbors, that could get awkward. My girl lived across town. I never saw her again after that. You are in a different boat. Good luck with that. My only advice is to 'be nice'. I've been in a neighbor war before. It didn't end until I moved. It was nasty and the police were involved more than once.

GWB and his Lieutenant Rove actively tried to sabotage the Cruz campaign when he first ran for Senate in 2012.
Interesting history between the two, Ted writes about it in his book.

It is interesting, because GHWB donated to Ted Cruz's campaign during the primary against Dewhurst.
It was after he and his wife visited GHWB and Barbara in Kennebunkport.
As he was leaving, GHWB gave Cruz a check.
I think it was $1,000.00, and Cruz was told he has GHWB's endorsement.

Rove had a fit, and told him to return the money, but there was some kind of campaign finance laws that didn't allow him to do that.
So Rove said he understood that, but told Cruz not to say he was endorsed by GHWB.
Cruz went back to GHWB, telling him what had happened, and that he was told not to use GHWB as an endorsement.
GHWB graciously said "I understand".

Cruz did not mention that GHWB endorsed him until 2015, 3 years later, when he wrote his book.

Also, the Jose Medellin vs, Texas case was big.
Some gang kids, raped and killed some junior high school girls in Houston.
Medellin was sentenced to death.
Since he was a Mexican citizen (illegal), he claimed that he hadn't been given his right of extradition, or at least, Mexican counsel, under Mexican law, based on treaties between Mexico and the US.
Bush was willing to allow this, to keep up goodwill.
Cruz fought it for the State of Texas, as the Solicitor General in front of SCOTUS.
Cruz won, Bush was pissed.

George Prescott Bush.

As it would be anytime, a Bush, Clinton, Obama, McCain, Cuomo, might opt in for a few laps of the political game.

@truth-seeker

Are you including his arrest record for stalking and property damage in his resume? Or did the Bush Crime Family get that "disappeared"?

All 3 of JEB's children have arrest records, although the other boy got a bum deal in MY mind. He was arrested for having sex with an underage girl after being caught humping her in a parking lot in the back of his vehicle in broad daylight. True, the girl was under 18,but only by a few months, and he was barely 18 himself. Yeah, humping her in a parking lot is not very smart, but he was barely 18 and had a shot at getting laid. Situations like that are not where intelligence rules the actions of teen males,

BTW,I found a photo of the woman people refer to as his "blonde trophy wife",and all I gotta say about that one "They just ain't making blonde trophy wives like they used to." That woman is FUGLY!

No. I doubt that will ever happen. Jeb was not defeated; he was crushed in 2016. I doubt he will ever live down that, 'Please clap', moment. No charisma. No personality. No enthusiasm. He is simply not cut out to be a politician. It was like Mr. Rogers running for office.

@truth-seeker

Having married a 17 year old woman, when I was 19 .I am not much bothered by teen sex.

*heard yesterday, the Pope was holding a conference of church authorities, about Priests and sex.  It was noted none of the men attending, wore pants.

Now there is a teen sex topic, I worry about.

I'm well past all this now, but just as a matter of debate I have never understood why a 17 year old woman is considered to be a 'minor' in America. Especially these days when children are maturing much faster than in other generations.

Stand an average 17 year old in makeup next to a 25 year old in makeup and try to pick which one is which. The majority of the time it is impossible to tell the difference. And this is what gets so many guys in trouble through no fault of their own. I can see 16 being too young to make an informed decision and even that doesn't apply universally. But at 17 a girl is woman IMO.

I agree.  If you're old enough to decide on your sex at 16, maybe you're old enough to have sex.

This gives a little info:

George W. Bush unleashes on Ted Cruz

10/19/2015

Quote
"...Cruz ripped Bush’s record, criticizing elements of his foreign policy and faulting the administration for enabling "bigger government and excessive spending and new entitlements."

Sounds right to me.

@240B

Thanks! I can sleep a little easier now. He was clearly the one being groomed to take over the dynasty, and if he is unfit, they have no one.
