Three US Army troops were killed and at least two dozen service members were injured in a drone attack overnight on a small US outpost in Jordan, US officials told CNN, marking the first time US troops have been killed by enemy fire in the Middle East since the beginning of the Gaza war.
The killing of three Americans at Tower 22 in Jordan near the border with Syria is a significant escalation of an already-precarious situation in the Middle East.
US Central Command confirmed in a statement on Sunday that three service members were killed and 25 injured in a one-way drone attack that “impacted at a base in northeast Jordan.”
As of Friday, there had been more than 158 attacks on US and coalition forces in Iraq and Syria, though officials have described the constant volley of drones, rockets, and missiles as unsuccessful as they have frequently not caused serious injury or damage to infrastructure.
It’s unclear why air defenses failed to intercept the drone, which appears to be the first known attack on Tower 22 since attacks on US and coalition forces began on October 17. US forces at the outpost are there as part of an advise-and-assist mission with Jordan.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin addressed the attack when he returned to work at the Pentagon on Monday after nearly a month's absence because of prostate cancer.
"Let me start with my outrage and sorrow for the deaths of three brave U.S. troops in Jordan and for the other troops who were wounded. The president and I will not tolerate attack on U.S. forces. And we will take all necessary actions to defend the U.S. and our troops," Austin said, while meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., who serves on the House Armed Services, Foreign Affairs and Intelligence committees and is a former U.S. Army special forces commander, told Fox News’ Harris Faulkner on Monday that Iran "has gotten the message loud and clear that they can get away with it."

I guarantee that these service people will have problems getting their appropriate level of benefits from the VA after they leave service because their injuries have publicly been called "non-serious."

Pentagon: We’ve ‘Made It Harder’ for Iran’s Groups to Attack Troops, But They Can Still Do It
On Monday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Katy Tur Reports,” Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh responded to a question on whether U.S. strikes against Iran-backed groups in the Middle East have worked by stating that “we have been able to take capabilities off the table of these IRGC-backed groups. The capabilities that they had yesterday, they no longer have today. And so, yes, we do assess that we have been able to successfully disrupt and degrade their capabilities.” But those groups can still attack.
Host Katy Tur asked, “There have been a number of strikes. Does the Pentagon assess that those strikes have been working?”
Singh responded, “Well, look, what we know is that we have been able to take capabilities off the table of these IRGC-backed groups. The capabilities that they had yesterday, they no longer have today. And so, yes, we do assess that we have been able to successfully disrupt and degrade their capabilities. By no means are we saying that we’ve taken everything off the map for them, but we have made it harder for them to launch attacks at our U.S. forces, whether it be in the Red Sea or in Iraq or Syria.”

I can't think of the last democrat president that respected our military, maybe FDR? maybe :shrug: But ever since WWII the democrats have shown only scorn if not outright hatred for our soldiers that really started snowballing with Barry's first two terms and now they don't even try to hide their feelings and attitude to the military. And the left wonders why they have trouble recruiting and have to keep lowering their standards.

Monday on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut” anchor Joy Reid said “starting another f—ing war” on a hot mic during a clip of President Joe Biden.
Reid said, “Congressional Republicans love to latch on to President Biden and Democrats’ successful policies and take credit for things they didn’t do while tying themselves into pretzels to do nothing for the American people for the sake of Donald Trump. Case in point, fixing what they say is a crisis at the border with congressional negotiators continuing work on a bipartisan deal to tie border policies to funding for Ukraine. Over the weekend President Biden said he’s ready to take action if Congress is serious about solving the issue.”
Saturday in South Carolina, Biden said, “If that bill were the law today, I would shut down the border now. Congress needs to get it done.”
Off-camera, Reid said, “Starting another bleep war.”
At the end of her show, Reid apologized for the gaffe.
Reid said, “Before we go, I just want to apologize very quickly. I was chatting during a clip that was playing, and you know, we try to keep this show very PG-13. I just want to apologize to anyone who was listening to my behind the scenes chatter. I’m deeply, deeply sorry for that. As you know, it’s PG-13 around here.”

But when asked on Monday whether the president would attend the ceremony, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said he didn’t “have anything on [the president’s] schedule to speak to.”

President Biden spoke on Tuesday with the families of the three Army soldiers who were killed in a suicide drone attack in Jordan and said he plans to travel to Dover, Del., for the dignified transfer of their remains on Friday.
“He was grateful for their time. He expressed to them how proud we all are of their service, how we mourn and feel sorrow over their loss,” White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters.
“[He] made sure that those families knew that not only was that service and sacrifice going to be honored and respected but that they would continue to get the support that they need as they work through what no family wants to go through.”
During that conversation, Kirby said, Biden “gauged” the families’ feelings about him going to the dignified transfer on Friday.
“All of them supported his presence there and so the president will be going to the dignified transfer on Friday,” he said.
The Pentagon on Monday identified the soldiers, who all served in the Army Reserve and were assigned to Georgia’s Fort Moore. The soldiers are: Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, 46, of Carrollton, Ga.; Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24, of Waycross, Ga.; and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23, of Savannah, Ga.

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs said Sunday’s Iranian-backed drone attack that killed three U.S. soldiers based in Jordan also injured 40 members of the Arizona National Guard.
Six of those Guard members are still out of commission while the other 34 have been cleared to return to duty, according to the Guard.
“I am heartbroken to hear reports of the Arizona National Guardsmen wounded in action during the attack in Jordan,” Hobbs tweeted. “I’m actively monitoring the situation and my administration is in contact with AZ NG Adjutant General Muehlenbeck. We are ready to offer support for the Guardsmen and their families, and will be prepared to take action as the situation develops.”
Two of the soldiers killed Sunday — Spc. Kennedy Sanders and Spc. Breonna Moffett — were both posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant by the Army Reserve on Tuesday.
Three of the Arizona guard members were medically evacuated from the area, but are expected to recover, according to 12 News.
"Facts of this attack are still being collected and it is unknown at this time how many Arizona service members were impacted," the Arizona National Guard said in a statement. The guard confirmed that servicemen were in the area at the time of the attack.

Newt Gingrich @newtgingrich The idea that the Pentagon needs time to plan hoiw to retaliate is a tragic commentary on the incompetence of the Biden team. Iranian proxies have been attacking Americans for months. Surely there have been contingency plans sitting in the Pentagon with target lists,etc. It should have been a 24 hour decision cycle and maybe at most another 24 hours for implementation.

The attack — which marked the first time U.S. service members have been killed since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in October — has ramped up the pressure on the Biden administration to retaliate against Tehran. The family of a soldier recently killed in Jordan broke down during a call Tuesday with President Biden.
In a video by the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Shawn Sanders and Oneida Oliver-Sanders take a call from the president in which he expresses his condolences over the death of their daughter Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders in a suicide drone attack last weekend.
“Shawn, I wish I didn’t have to make this call,” Biden said. “I know there’s nothing anybody can say or do to ease the pain. I’ve been there.”
“Yes, sir, we understand,” Oliver-Sanders responded.
“I just want you to know that I… you’re in my prayers and my heart,” Biden said.
Shortly after, the president says their daughter is being posthumously promoted to sergeant.
“Oh wow, that is the best news I’ve heard today, thank you so much,” Oliver-Sanders said as her husband begins to break down. “You don’t know how much that means to us.”
“Oh, well, I tell you what, it means a lot to me,” Biden then said, as Oliver-Sanders begins to cry. “My son spent a year in Iraq; that’s how I lost him.”
Biden shared the lossed he has faced in his life, including the deaths of his first wife and young daughter in a 1972 car crash and his son Beau, who died of brain cancer in 2015.
The Pentagon on Monday identified Sanders, alongside Sgt. William Jerome Rivers and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, as those who died in the drone attack. All three are from Georgia.

DISGUSTING: Joe Biden Calls Grieving Mother of Killed Soldier and Misleads About Beau Biden Again Bonchie
Chalk this up as another story that dumbfounds me, with Joe Biden once again fibbing to a grieving military family about how his son, Beau Biden, died.
As RedState reported, three U.S. Army soldiers were killed in Jordan in late January after an Iranian-backed group attacked it with drones. The deceased have been identified as Sergeant William Rivers, Specialist Breona Moffett, and Specialist Kennedy Sanders. Good Morning America broadcast the call Biden made to the family of Specialist Sanders in which he proceeded to mislead them about his son's death, something he's done in numerous calls to Goldstar families.
How many times does this need to be explained to the president? It is tragic when anyone's child dies, and that includes Beau Biden. With that said, there is no comparison between a parent losing a child in combat and having a child pass after a long battle with cancer. When a person goes to sleep one night thinking their child is fine and then wakes up the next morning to find out their child has been brutally killed, that does something different to a person. That is not the type of pain and suffering anyone should compare themselves to unless they've experienced it first-hand.
Joe Biden got to be at his son's bedside. He was able to say his goodbyes and plan for what was coming, both emotionally and practically. The parents of these killed soldiers will never have that opportunity. So no, Biden hasn't "been there," and no, Iraq was not how he lost his son. To this day, there's no actual evidence that burn pits used during the conflict caused Beau Biden to develop cancer. There's not even any evidence Beau Biden had any extensive exposure to them. He died of cancer half a decade after leaving the military.

The US military has begun striking targets linked to Iranian proxy groups in Syria after a drone attack killed three American soldiers in Jordan this past weekend.
The strikes, reported by ABC News and Fox News Channel, began a little more than an hour after the conclusion of a dignified transfer ceremony honoring the three soldiers at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware Friday afternoon.
The US has blamed the Islamic Resistance in Iraq umbrella group for the weekend attack that killed Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, 46; Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24; and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23 and wounded approximately 40 other American service members.

On Friday’s “CBS Evening News,” CBS News National Security Correspondent David Martin reported that the U.S. military “was perplexed by the degree to which” the Biden administration “telegraphed these strikes” in response to the fatal drone attack on U.S. soldiers, because the telegraphing “gave the militia leaders and Iranian operatives in Iraq and Syria time to either get out of the country or go to ground by surrounding themselves with women and children.” But also reported that more strikes are planned and if the strikes on Friday were successful, the Iranian-backed militias “won’t have much to work with” to resume strikes once they come out of hiding.
Host Norah O’Donnell asked, “So, just about that, the president essentially telegraphed that some of these strikes would be coming. Did that impact their effectiveness?”
Martin responded, “Well, the military was perplexed by the degree to which the administration telegraphed these strikes, because it gave the militia leaders and Iranian operatives in Iraq and Syria time to either get out of the country or go to ground by surrounding themselves with women and children. But if the militias intend to resume their strikes against American troops, sooner or later, they have to come out of hiding. The U.S. has launched a devastating wave of airstrikes on Iran's Revolutionary Guard and militants in Iraq and Syria in retaliation for the drone strike that killed three U.S. troops.
Multiple long-range bombers and drones hit 85 targets with 125 bombs over 30 minutes in the widespread military operation on Friday night ordered by President Joe Biden.
As explosions rang out across the Middle East the president said the payback strikes will continue 'at times and places of our choosing' and warned militias: 'If you harm an American, we will respond'.

Jordan took part in strikes in Syria, senior Middle East national security official says
Jordanian F16s took part in the strikes against Iranian proxy targets in Syria overnight Friday, a senior Middle East national security official confirmed to Fox News.
Jordan participated in the retaliatory strikes in part because the attack on U.S. forces took place inside Jordanian territory in violation of international law, the official said.
Additionally, there is a long history of Iran-backed proxy groups attacking Jordanian border areas regularly as part of an elaborate drug smuggling effort to finance Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps activities in Syria.
Iranian-backed militias have trafficked Captagon, a highly addictive amphetamine, as well as weapons in order to fund their operations. The smuggling efforts have destabilized societies in the Middle East, mostly in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Arab states, by introducing addictive drugs to the population.
Another Middle Eastern source added that prior to the 2003 invasion of Iraq by U.S. forces, Iran had no footholds in Iraq or Syria, Al Qaeda did not exist in Iraq, nor ISIS in Iraq or Syria.

US airstrikes in Iraq, Syria reportedly kill nearly 40 The US retaliatory airstrikes launched in Iraq and Syria have reportedly killed more than 30 people, according to Iraqi and Syrian officials.
Iraq said the airstrikes killed 16 people including civilians. In Syria, the strikes killed 23 people who had been guarding the targeted locations, said Rami Abdulrahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an organisation that reports on war in Syria.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement that forces conducted airstrikes on more than 85 targets in Iraq and Syria against Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force and affiliated militia groups. The strikes were carried out by long-range B-1 bombers and were President Biden's first response to the attack by Iran-backed militia groups that killed three American soldiers in Jordan last weekend.
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said after the strikes that Biden had directed additional action against the IRGC and those linked to it. "This is the start of our response," Austin said.
"We do not seek conflict in the Middle East or anywhere else, but the president and I will not tolerate attacks on American forces," Austin said.

A "proportional" response for Israel would have been to cross the border, enter Gaza border towns, invade civilian homes, indiscriminately killing many of those civilians, raping women, and beheading infants, and then kidnap survivors and take them back to Israel where they could be raped, tortured, and eventually murdered.
I don't see any of these Hamas sympathizers calling for that type of response from Israel.

The strike, which occurred on a main thoroughfare in Baghdad's Mashtal neighborhood, was considered a "high-value individual target," Fox News is told. One of those killed is believed to be Wissam Mohammed "Abu Bakr" al-Saadi, the commander in charge of Kataib Hezbollah's operations in Syria, according to Reuters.
CENTCOM said there are no indications of collateral damage or civilian casualties at this time.
"The United States will continue to take necessary action to protect our people," CENTCOM said in a statement. "We will not hesitate to hold responsible all those who threaten our forces' safety."
