Title: Barges hit I-10 bridge over San Jacinto River, freeway shut down
Post by: Elderberry on September 20, 2019, 12:11:34 pm
ABC13 9/20/2019

Multiple barges have hit the I-10 bridge over the San Jacinto River, shutting down the freeway in both directions.

Around 11:50 p.m., officials received a report that nine barges had broken away from their moorings at the Southwest Shipyard because the water was so rough.

The freeway is shut down eastbound at Magnolia and westbound at Crosby Lynchburg.

The traffic was miserable while they made repairs the last time.  Overwhelmed the alternative routes.

Rumors of the East bound direction lanes being opened this morning were false.

What a mess....

@thackney - when will you relocate to the east of Houston to make it an easier commute?

Do you go 146 thru Baytown?

I worked with a feller that makes the commute from Beaumont to JSC. He's done that for many a year. That would be about the same as your commute.

I am today.

Normally I have several options for alternate routes to avoid accidents backups.

This severely limits the choices and puts massive traffic on the other routes.

Dividers up on East Bound Side of San Jac Bridge of I-10.

Traffic will be two lanes each direction on the bridge while the West Bound side is repaired/replaced.
