Four months after her conviction on mortgage fraud charges, Cook County Judge Jessica Arong O’Brien could lose her job after a state board alleged in a lengthy complaint that her refusal to step down “undermines public confidence in the judicial system.”

The 72-page complaint filed by the Judicial Inquiry Board on Tuesday asked the Illinois Courts Commission to suspend O’Brien’s pay pending a full hearing on her removal from office.

The complaint noted that since her conviction in February, O’Brien has “continued to hold the office and title of Circuit Court judge” and receive a full salary, despite having her law license suspended by the Illinois Supreme Court. Not only has she refused to step down, but O’Brien also has recently filed paperwork seeking retention in the upcoming judicial elections, the complaint said.
