Report: Obama plans new Obamacare delay to help Dems in midterms
Thomas Lifson

Although there is no official announcement yet, Elise Viebeck of The Hill is reporting that:

Quote

As early as this week, according to two sources, the White House will announce a new directive allowing insurers to continue offering health plans that do not meet ObamaCare’s minimum coverage requirements.

Prolonging the “keep your plan” fix will avoid another wave of health policy cancellations otherwise expected this fall.

The cancellations would have created a firestorm for Democratic candidates in the last, crucial weeks before Election Day.

America is descending into banana republic status, where El Supremo suspends laws with which he disagrees, or which might create political difficulties for his party. Let others deal with the consequences:

Quote

One company executive complained that the White House’s tendency to shift deadlines makes it hard to price health policies accurately.

“These continual delays, these stops and starts, make it very difficult because we set rates based on predictive modeling,” the executive said.

“When you change the rules, it has a detrimental impact on your ability to calculate your risk pool and your prices.”

When the 2016 presidential debates take place, one question to be posed to both the GOP and Democratic candidates would be: “Does the next president have the right to unilaterally suspend any or all portions of Obamacare the same way President Obama has?”

I heard this, this morning. If Obama kept it the other way people would lose insurance a month before mid-terms.

Obama has changed this so much for pure political purpose it may as well be gutted, appealed and use the republicans plan.

And where is the Republican leadership, and are those two words now effectively, an oxymoron?

In our system of government, the chief executive cannot overturn laws by directive, by fiat. Executive Orders can only affect the authority of executive branch offices (Federal departments and their bureaucracies) to promulgate rules and provide direction to them.

If the President can nullify and overwrite parts of laws he does not like, then the will of legislature, and that of the people are subservient and inferior.

In other parts of the world, they call that a "dictatorship".

Again: where is the opposition?

The opposition is being mocked and derided by their own party.  God help us!

Where is the so-called Republican leadership?  As per the WSJ, currently trying to get into bed with Maxine Waters in order to repeal the GOP's own reforms to the flood insurance entitlement program in order to keep massive taxpayer subsidies in place.

I find my inherent sense of optimism under great stress these days. America is today set adrift upon a sea of complacency, amorality, willful dependence and hopelessness.

Our leadership class, far from seeking solutions to escalating national problems, largely seeks to manipulate them to their momentary personal and political advantage.
At the same time, any and all voices warning of the dangers we face are shouted down, mocked and insulted, frequently by the communications media, who are themselves largely integrated with the Ruling Class and fiercely protective of their common interests.

It will take ever more courage to speak up and speak out. But those of us who still believe in the universal values of personal liberty and independence and in the vital role of the United States in promoting them, still must speak out.

While we still can.

At least on this one limited topic all of us should be writing, not just to our own Congressional delegation, but to all Congress critters - at least the republicans - urging them to vote against this ludicrous, lib/prog entitlement proposal.

Not only is it bad policy from the point of view of government fiscal policy and entitlement policy, it is bad policy because it incentivizes people to live in dangerous flood-prone areas.  Perhaps there would have been less to get damaged by Hurricane Sandy if the people living in harm's way had been required to pay full freight for their voluntary private decisions.

About 25 years ago, there was a firebrand congressman from some jerkwater district in Georgia who started ripples of a movement by making speeches and using C-Span for Special Orders(?).

I heard this on Pat and Stu this morning, seems when O extended the deadline a few weeks back the mental giants in his regime forgot to count bacvk 90 days to the mandatory date insurance carriers have to send out cancellations and premium increases so he had to add another 90 days to his edict to save November for his party.  In the meantime......... the mental giant Speaker is silent -- again -- still.........

The opposition can't do much.  One has to have standing in order to bring a lawsuit; that is, someone who is injured or harmed by keeping one of these old plans.

Speakest thou of Gingrich?

That would be an affirmative.
