It seems to me that whenever there is some change that has political ramifications, the group that is most likely to benefit from the change overestimates the damage that will be caused if we do not act; overestimates the advantages that will accrue from acting; and underestimates the damages that will come from acting. And we keep falling for it.

There is a good reason why our founding fathers generally distrusted mob rule, and we are seeing it manifested in virtually every aspect of our lives today.

Morons. They prove their ignorance. A Bison is bovine. ANY BOVINE does exactly the same dang thing. You could say any ungulate and still be right, though it depends upon the terrain.

But in a word, COWS.

DUH.

Who the heck is he saluting? Half the time, he forgets to salute actual military men, but then he salutes random campaign crowds (and by "crowd," I mean "very small gathering").

Whoaaa....

Over my pay grade, weighing in  to this one.  Would sea deployment of nukes be seen as an agressive escalation?  Maybe the trigger to invade Taiwan?
I would be surprised if we don't have nukes at sea already (we're supposed to, right?).

The question is one of whether to deploy low yield (tactical) nukes or not, or whether to outfit more tactical platforms with strategic level nukes.  W-80s should fit on most missiles or torpedoes, and can be dialed up to 1.5 Megatons.

Would the Chinese hesitate to go for a one-shot fleet engagement, even if it invited a strategic (ICBM) response?

No different than eating shrimp, crawfish, crab, or lobster, which are simply scavenging 'cleanup bugs' that live in water.

However other than one or two just for the experience, would probably not pig-out on Cicadas unless I was really hungry and without food. People around the world eat all kinds of bugs routinely for that exact reason. Bugs are good protein. Western culture is fortunate.

In some cultures protein is scarce, so they use what they have and find ways to make it palatable or even tasty. Even in Europe and North America we use "interesting" things such as tripe and sweetbreads. Catfish and sturgeon are bottom-feeders as well.

I'd be startled too, with a sudden loud noise after about destroying the country.
