What a stupid and cruel thing to do to his family.

yep...it is the ultimate selfish act. Everyone you ever knew is a victim.I think that's a rude thing to think. I know a lot of people who say something like that, like suicide is “cowardly” and “selfish” as if another round of insults is going to stop a person on the brink of taking the most precious thing they have-- their own life. In so many cases the mere lack of acceptance, the inability to fulfill basic needs in life, chronic pain, or other serious agonies drive the decision to kill oneself.
He was a husband and a father. He put himself and his imagined woes before the needs of his wife and children. That's not a round of insults. That's the facts. As if we should live as if we don't exist, as if we are mere peons to our spawn, to those we marry? We all have needs, and we all have troubles, “imagined” or otherwise. Who was looking out for HIS needs? Apparently not his wife.
Williams was good in some roles. I never really thought he was funny at stand-up. He lived a good long life, 63.Well, Trayvon Jr. never caught on, so the media needs some form of distraction.
But why is this taking up my whole night trying to watch the news? I get it. He's dead. I understand. He was a good guy. I get it. But come on...

He was a good man and a brilliant artist.
May God Bless his soul.
Why is it that so many comedians battle with depression? All too many find themselves losing the battle.
Here are just a few. Some lost the battle, some still fighting
Owen Wilson, (attempted suicide)
Jeff Dunham
Drew Carey
Jim Carrey
John Belushi
Phil Hartman
Chris Farley
Ellen DeGeneres
David Letterman
Rodney Dangerfield

That being said, in Williams's case, it was probably drugs, or withdrawal from them, altering his mind and driving his depression.

I wonder when you're 62, if you think 63 is a "....long life".
Why is it that so many comedians battle with depression? All too many find themselves losing the battle.Because comedy is a coping mechanism. By making yourself and others laugh, it helps alleviate distress in your life.

Exactly. It is asinine that FNC is wasting all this airtime, as if there is nothing else important going on.... OK, we got it, he's dead, end of story.
Because like always, FNC will run anything celebrity related into the ground.
For the rest of the media, anything to distract the sheeple from Obama's failures.
Some jaded remarks tonite.

Depression is a mental illness, and stems from abnormal chemistry of the brain.
Most rational people wouldn't criticize somebody for getting cancer. The same should go for depression.
It can be treated with medications, but sometimes the patient decides the side effects are worse than the depression, and stops taking their prescribed meds.
Treatment is not a perfect solution, making all the symptoms vanish.
It is NOT a disease which only afflicts people of low character, or low morals. It can stand alone, apart from drug and alcohol abuse, however some depressed patients self-medicate with drugs/alcohol.
Williams at one point had long term sobriety from drugs/alcohol but a few years ago he relapsed. It appears he has had difficulty getting back on track, ending with this sad situation.
My own youngest sister has severe depression, but so far has been treated with prescription meds. She has never drank or used any drugs, never.
"He arrived in our lives as an alien — but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit."So he and Barry had that alien thingey in common.
Some jaded remarks tonite. The way this country's going, it's kind of hard not to be jaded. But yes, I agree.
It's very moving to see the outpouring of appreciation for the late Robin Williams. Williams, who died last night in an apparent suicide in his Marin County home, had a particular connection to National Review, having done a crackerjack impression of founder William F. Buckley that ended up with Buckley’s signature manner being immortalized in the Disney film Aladdin.More - and check out the reader comments at the end of the article. That Aladdin bit was an outgrowth of a more extensive WFB Williams did in a Saturday Night Live parody of Firing Line ...
Just turned off Greta. Couldn't take it any more. Turned off Fox and Friends this morning for the same reason. I would bet that throughout the day today, I have heard that "Robin Williams died", at least 3000 times.
I DON'T CARE! The first time I heard it, I thought, "Wow, that's a shame." But now, it has me pulling my hair out. SHUT UP ABOUT ROBIN WILLIAMS ALREADY.
Does anyone know how many Great people died today? Does anyone know how many Christians and others were cruxified, buried alive, burned alive, and beheaded today in Iraq? No. We can't know. Because all we care about is some B list clown from 20-30 years ago.
Jeez. No TV tonight. I'm going to sit on the balcony, sip whiskey, and read a book.
I'm just going to wait out this current wave of insanity until is passes.
Count me in. I don't get TV anymore - but yesterday my father had Greta on & that's all she talked about. This evening, she's STILL talking about it! I had to turn Glenn Beck off this morning because that is all they were talking about.
Sheesh! It's not like there isn't anything else going on to talk about! **nononono*
It still is wall to wall on the news channels and covering Facebook. Although the Lauren Bacall news is getting out and filling a bit of that space.

Who was the first one?

James Garner?
btw, dittos to what you said about Glenn Beck.
I thought I was going to throw up before I got to the radio to turn him off.... **nononono*
She died today at the age of 89.
There are so many famous people that it is pretty easy to connect three random deaths.
Aw, come on Dex! Are you going to go all Myth Busters on me? :10444:
Thanks musiclady, I forgot about James Garner. 8888crybabySee, that's part of the reason I could never host a daily show. Three hours a day, every day, is a heck of a lot of airtime to fill, and you end up delving into the banal aspects of society and dwelling on the irrelevant too much.
In regards to Beck, last week it was "Sharknado" - again, I had to turn it off. I like humor on the show, but I like it with a lot of news too. I get that sometimes you just have to talk about something else, but he definitely went overboard on Robin Williams...and Sharknado too!
Robin Williams fell off the wagon not long before his suicide when he demanded real alcohol during shooting of his failed TV series, insiders say.
According to Page Six, the 63-year-old funnyman asked for booze during a scene shot inside an LA restaurant in May 2013 as he begrudgingly returned to the small screen in The Crazy Ones.
As more of the details of the tragic actors final years, months and days are revealed, Williams' old pals on Broadway paid tribute to the legend by dimming their marquees for one minute.
