Judge cancels Manafort sentencing hearing
By Lydia Wheeler - 01/28/19 06:12 PM EST

The federal judge in Paul Manafort's Virginia criminal case on Monday canceled a sentencing hearing that had been scheduled for Feb. 8.

Judge T.S. Ellis III, of the district court for the Eastern District of Virginia, said a resolution of an ongoing dispute in a separate case against Manafort in the District of Columbia might have some effect on the sentencing in the case before him.

President Trump's former campaign manager was convicted of eight counts of bank and tax fraud in the federal court in Alexandria over the summer.

He faced separate charges in D.C. but reached a plea deal with prosecutors in September to avoid a second trial. As part of the deal, Manafort agreed to fully cooperate with special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
