Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspends 'Soros-backed' state attorney who refused to enforce abortion ban (https://www.foxnews.com/politics/florida-gov-ron-desantis-suspends-liberal-state-attorney-andrew-warren)

DeSantis says Andrew Warren refused to enforce numerous Florida laws and wouldn't work with police

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended liberal State Attorney Andrew Warren on Thursday.

DeSantis made the announcement during a Thursday press conference broadcast on social media. DeSantis argued that Warren has repeatedly refused to enforce laws passed by the legislature cracking down on child sex change surgeries and abortion restrictions.

"We are suspending Soros-backed 13th circuit state attorney Andrew Warren for neglecting his duties as he pledges not to uphold the laws of the state," DeSantis' office said in a statement. The 13th circuit falls over Florida's Hillsborough County.

"The constitution of Florida has vested the veto power in the governor, not in state attorneys," DeSantis said. "We are not going to allow this pathogen of ignoring the law get a foothold in the state of Florida."

The sheriff made his point and it is important that DeSantis has as many sheriff's on his side as he can.

Ron is showing that he has zero tolerance for those trying to impose their liberalism in our state.

I pray the he continues to have a super majority behind him because he truly has utilized that advantage to advance conservatism.

Does the governor in Florida have the authority to suspend (or fire) an elected --- not appointed --- state official @libertybele ?

*** Yes, as far as I can tell @Right_in_Virginia

It’s unclear if his removal from office is permanent. Under Florida law, the Florida Senate must decide whether to reinstate Warren or remove him completely. The Senate must send out a notice of an initial hearing within 90 days, per Senate rules — putting that deadline for Warren’s case just days before Election Day in November. Warren can also choose to fight his removal in court, which could push back that timeline.

DeSantis Sends Cops To Physically Remove Suspended 'Soros-Backed' State Attorney

by Tyler Durden
Friday, Aug 05, 2022 - 03:11 AM

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has suspended State Attorney Andrew Warren for 'picking and choosing which laws to enforce based on his personal agenda,' and has appointed Susan Lopez as his replacement during the suspension.

Warren, who had served the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit, has most recently refused to follow state policy criminalizing abortion in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade - and repeatedly refused to enforce laws cracking down on child sex-change surgeries, according to DeSantis.

The liberal state attorney also declined to prosecute 67 protesters arrested in George Floyd demonstrations, and said in 2017 that he would only pursue the death penalty "in the very worst cases," and not where "mental illness played a role."

"We are suspending Soros-backed 13th circuit state attorney Andrew Warren for neglecting his duties as he pledges not to uphold the laws of the state," DeSantis' office said in a statement, per Fox News.

Update: DeSantis sent state police to physically remove Warren from his office, "with access only to retrieve his personal belongings, and (ii) to ensure that no files, papers, documents, notes, records, computers, or removable storage media are removed from the Office of the State Attorney..."

Yes, elections have consequences but is having police remove the elected official over this the solution we want to support?  @libertybele  (my resident expert) --- are recall elections possible in the great state of Florida?

FTA...

Quote
But those who have been removed in the past typically had been the focus of a major controversy.

“Governors remove people from office in local government all the time but usually there’s a scandal, a malfeasance in office,” noted Charles Zelden, a professor of history and political science at Nova Southeastern University.

Election problems in Palm Beach County in 2018 prompted DeSantis to remove the supervisor of elections. He also removed Broward County's sheriff after his agency was accused of mishandling the response to the mass shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and the Fort Lauderdale airport.

Warren wasn’t accused of a single major misstep. Instead, local law enforcement leaders said he was soft on crime and DeSantis agreed, saying he didn’t do enough to enforce certain laws while also complaining about letters he signed stating he wouldn't enforce laws on abortion and transgender medical care.

“It’s basically a disagreement about policy and ideology and the governor’s trying to remove a prosecutor who was elected twice by the people of Tampa," said University of Central Florida political science professor Aubrey Jewett.

I am hardly a resident "expert" @Right_in_Virginia and never proclaimed to be.  DeSantis suspended him not because of the issue of abortion, but over the fact that he didn't follow the laws in place.  I'll have to go back and look, but I don't remember the police actually removing him.

I am behind DeSantis in suspending an official who refuses to follow the law.

As I pointed out above in the statutes of FL, it take a vote of the Senate to actually remove him.

There was a Supervisor of Elections that was suspended and eventually fired for fraud during the last midterms.  So ... should we just look the other way @Right_in_Virginia ?

Personally, I would love it if Soros was no longer able to do business in this country, but he is too large and has too many companies and foot soldiers for that to become a reality.  DeSantis is merely not tolerating lawlessness.

The root of the lawlessness is Soros' bribery.  Surely there are enough GOP AG's to make this case.

Yes, Soros is a problem and IMHO the only way to even come close to stopping him, is to hold people accountable who he has bribed or who support his ideology. I don't think Soros and his family can be stopped.  He has invested $$ in corporations all over the world.

I was troubled because of the relationship of Trump's advisor, Kushner when I learned that Joshua and Jared Kushner received their start up money for Cadre from Soros. However, if you look up Cadre today there is very little mention of the Kushners. (I had posted that info a few years back with links, including being backed by Soros)  However if you go into Thrive Capital, the Kushners are named as owners -- all originating from Cadre.

In 2014, Kushner, with his brother Joshua and Ryan Williams, co-founded Cadre (now RealCadre LLC), an online real-estate investment platform. His business partners included Goldman Sachs and billionaire George Soros, a top Democratic Party donor. In early 2015, Soros Fund Management financed the startup with a $250 million credit line. Kushner did not identify these business relationships in his January 2017 government financial-disclosure form. In 2020, his ownership stake in Cadre was estimated at $25–50 million.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jared_Kushner
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joshua_Kushner#Thrive_Capital

Back to Soros.

The most disturbing entity that he leads is the "Open Society Foundation"  If I recall correctly his children run this foundation to promote his agenda and are involved in various different spin-off companies.

https://www.opensocietyfoundations.org/

He is a prominent stockholder in various companies (I'm not sure of the accuracy of the links below?)

https://hedgefollow.com/funds/Soros+Fund+Management

Companies that he owns:

https://noblegoldinvestments.com/george-soros-owned-companies/

Soros has a fund management company, however the website is not secure (caution) so I didn't go into the website.

No, I don't think he and his family can be stopped.  They are too big, have too much money and are entrenched already in our society through various different people and organizations.

It's not the police escort @Ghost Bear .... it's throwing out the will of the people (I'm a little sensitive to this) for what appears to be --- at its core --- a policy difference.

I'm not convinced being "weak on crime" is a crime or not prosecuting abortion after 15 weeks doesn't fall under prosecutorial discretion (for a host of reasons).

I also think the optics were off.  This was a big move ---- throwing aside the will of the people in Tampa who twice elected this man.   It should have been given a sober explanation in a serious five minute speech by the governor ---- and just the governor.  IMO, the campaign stop venue diminished the message and the motives.

But, I do understand the enthusiasm for action --- any action.    happy77

@Right_in_Virginia  I simply don't know the answer to that and I am not an attorney or an attorney that deals in international law. IMO As much money as Soros and his family have and as many people who are involved, I think it is doubtful.  He has many organizations and many people under his wings all over the world.  The magnitude with which his money reaches is mind boggling. Perhaps you may be able to shut down one corporation but not all of them. (They all have the same socialist agenda). Shut down one and he or his kids open up another. His corporations are registered LLC, so for the most part his assets I believe are protected.

Suspended Florida State Attorney Lashes Out, Pledges to Defy Ron DeSantis
By Bonchie | Aug 05, 2022 3:00 PM ET

Gov. Ron Desantis recently made the boss move of suspending a State Attorney who signed a pledge to not enforce Florida’s abortion and childhood transgender transition laws. Now, Andrew Warren is pledging to defy DeSantis, saying he will continue to do his job.

That happened on CBS News, with Warren accusing his state’s abortion law of being “unconstitutional” while slamming DeSantis.

I see, you're hung up about the abortion issue.  But that wasn't the only thing mentioned in the press conference, they also talked about felons not being prosecuted and being let out on the streets to commit more crimes.  The Florida constitution allows for the governor to suspend state officials for "... reasons of misfeasance, malfeasance, neglect of duty, drunkenness, incompetence, permanent inability to perform official duties, or commission of a felony."  That is taken from the press release announcing the move.

IMHO, refusing to uphold the laws of the state (whatever law it might be) is clear neglect of duty, when most state officials take oaths of office that specifically mention faithfully upholding and executing state laws. The state attorney's statement that he wouldn't prosecute anyone breaking the abortion law was just the latest law the state attorney was refusing to prosecute; he had already been refusing to prosecute many other laws.

@Right_in_Virginia I don't think it was simply a matter of policy difference, but rather being vocal about not enforcing the laws in place.

One problem, I agree is DeSantis suspended him based on what Warren's plans were in the future. However even as an elected official, Warren should not be able to pick and choose which laws he's going to enforce based on his personal opinion.  I think DeSantis was trying to make a case that we have laws and our elected officials should follow those laws., including Warren.

DeSantis said the decision to suspend Warren came after he directed staff to review whether any state attorneys in Florida had taken it "upon themselves to determine which laws they like and will enforce," after watching prosecutors in other states decline to press charges for certain crimes.

Unconstitutional??  I think Warren might want to rethink that statement.

The outcome of this will be interesting and I hope DeSantis prevails. (Hey, he took on Mickey Mouse hopefully he'll be able to take on this clown).

Seems to me the people of Florida are well and truly fed up with liberal socialist bullshit, so I wonder just how they will decide their laws should be enforced and defended, isn't there election coming up for the office?

At one point in time during the pandemic we had close to 1,000 people moving to FL a day. Mostly from CA, NY, and NJ. Sure they fled blue states, but did they leave their liberal values behind or did they bring them with them?

As for voting; DeSantis ran against Gillum last election and narrowly won.  Gillum is currently being charged with fraud and conspiracy. To think that Gillum almost got away with stealing an election is troubling.

FL is now considered a red state, but there are several large counties that are pretty liberal and Hillsborough (Warren's turf) is one of them. Liberals elected him.

Always remember that the farther north you go in FL the more southern you get.

Supposedly Abe Lincoln coined a version of that saying.  It still holds true today.

Unconstitutional??  I think Warren might want to rethink that statement.

I believe the crux of the matter is that Warren signed a joint statement along with a whole slew of other leftist prosecutors stating that they would exercise their prosecutorial discretion in blanket form to refuse to pursue otherwise valid cases under the anti-grooming statutes some states have enacted, including those in Florida.

As the order suspending Warren states, prosecutors have discretion on a case-by-case basis to decide whether or not to pursue a case, but that a blanket refusal to enforce a given law against anyone is essentially the functional equivalent of a veto of that law, and therefore is arguably neglect of duty - and neglect of duty is one of the bases under the Florida constitution for which the governor can lawfully suspend a states attorney such as Warren.

So, until Warren gets the order thrown out, he is suspended, and DeSantis was within his powers as governor to have him removed from office by the police, given Warren's stated intention to refuse to recognize the suspension order.

YES.
Throw them out.
REMOVE them.
IF they won't leave voluntarily, use force if required.

But we're in a national "cold civil war".

Catfish observes (re DeSantis):
"By the day, I am upping the odds this guy becomes POTUS one day."

Yes.
We need him.
But NOT in 2024.
We need him in 2028 and 2032.

But in 2024, there remains someone else that we need more.

Too early to speculate IMO and we need DeSantis to stay here in FL.

So, is Warren the only state attorney in Florida not meeting the governor's standards @libertybele ?

How would you prefer he be treated?  As @PeteS in CA pointed out, people get escorted out by security when fired or laid off all the time. I see this as no different.

No doubt there are some petty bosses out there who do this to humiliate people, but generally it is done to prevent sabotage. This guy's public refusal to apply laws strongly evidences a potential willingness to commit sabotage.

Warner's career is hopefully over. Perhaps he will sue DeSantis, but I don't think he'll prevail.

Much further south you have Miami which is pretty much like a 3rd world country in a lot of parts of the city.
