Pelosi Begins Asia Trip as Questions Linger over Potential Visit to Taiwan

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) — a long-time critic of the Chinese Communist Party — began her trip to Asia on Sunday but did not confirm if she would visit Taiwan and become the highest-ranking U.S. official to visit in 25 years.
Beijing has threatened consequences if Pelosi flies to Taiwan, and the Biden administration opposes the trip out of concern it will prompt some sort of military confrontation with China or further destabilize the relationship.
The last time a U.S. official of her status visited Taiwan was in 1997, and the official was then-House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA). Gingrich has urged Pelosi to go despite the Biden administration’s opposition, calling it “timidity, covered by insecurity and an eagerness to appease people who aren’t Americans.”
“You have a woke Defense Department which is as timid as the State Department, which is really dangerous,” Gingrich said at the America First Policy Institute summit last week in Washington, DC.
A number of other Republicans are also urging Pelosi to go and not back down to Beijing, including Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), who visited Taiwan this month.
“China is just a belligerent country with some wonderful people, but horrible government. And so, we’ve gotta stand up for our great ally — not just Taiwan, but … when we do this, we’re supporting Japan. We’re sort of supporting South Korea and other allies in the Asias,” he told Breitbart News.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is expected to visit Taiwan during her trip to Asia this week despite there being no mention of the country in her official itinerary released over the weekend, according to officials from the United States and Taiwan.
It’s not clear when Pelosi will arrive in Taiwan, but the House speaker is expected to stay there overnight, officials told CNN. The trip will be the first time a House speaker has visited Taiwan in 25 years and comes amid warnings from top White House officials, including President Joe Biden himself.

I agree...and thank you for typing out my thoughts so I didn't have to.
Of course she did go to Syria and do a bang up job./s
But as I typed on another thread...China has no authority to order us to do anything. Of course this attitude got me in tons of trouble in my life.
Disclaimer: I have never understood why the legislative politicians takes these jaunts. It's not their bailiwick...even if it makes terrific photo ops.

I texted a friend of mine who lives in Taiwan to see their take on Pelosi's visit. They said that Taiwan is well prepared for an attack by China and actually welcomed the Pelosi visit. This is certainly not what I expected to hear from them. They seemed to think that China would do some miliary exercises but that would be about it. I pray to God they are correct.

Thank you for your reply @Kamaji But it still doesn't clear up in my mind what the devil she is doing there. I thought this was a State Department issue.
As a disclaimer, I will say that I disagree with Congresscritters flying around to any country for photo ops on the taxpayer dime.
