'A very destructive speech': Democrats outraged at Trump's State of Union victory lap
by Susan Ferrechio
 | February 04, 2020 11:46 PM

House and Senate Democrats, fresh off an attempt to remove President Trump from office, rejected his triumphal State of the Union address as one of the worst speeches they have ever heard.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tore up her copy after Trump finished delivering it.

Some Democrats stood up and chanted in protest during the speech, while others said as they left the chamber afterward, they never should have shown up in the first place. A handful walked out while Trump was still speaking.

“A very destructive speech,” said Rep. Gerry Connolly, a Virginia Democrat, who did not leave early.

“He did nothing to reach out to heal wounds he helped create. He did nothing to bridge the divide in the country," Connolly told the Washington Examiner. "In fact, he doubled down.”

So, it was Trump that used the FBI/CIA/White House and foreign governments/agents to spy on the presidential campaign and tangle the US Government up for 3 years in a bogus Russia investigation?
And it was Trump that initiated a hollow, baseless impeachment effort....
By all means, it is Trump that should apologize....
connelly is such a loser...

Symbolic of the media's approach to reporting on Trump was how they mewled about him refusing to shake nana's hand, but omitted the fact she left out the traditional expressions of respect from her introduction of him when he entered the House.

I watched most of it...did Trump actually mention the impeachment at all, or discuss it in any detail?  Because I didn't see/hear that.

ETA:  I guess he didn't.  Makes it all the more brilliant.  And some of those moments were just incredible -- the mom and her daughter who survived being born at 21 weeks coupled with a plea for banning late-term abortions, etc..

Really a fantastic speech.

The only thing Donald Trump sought to "destroy" last night was the radical, Obamanian conceit that America is guilty of oppression, racism and conquest, and that (thankfully!) her best days were behind her.

But in spite of the palpable, vocal, and irrational teeth-gnashing hatred of him on the part of half of those there assembled, President Trump succeeded in promoting the exact opposite vision, and it was that of Ronald Reagan: America as a force for liberty, progress, growth, success, and opportunity; a beacon unto the world.

The President spoke not only of his economic, trade and foreign policy achievements, as was his right, but celebrated the achievements, sacrifices and human decency of ordinary and famous Americans alike. Ultimately, he chose to make the speech not about him, but about them and about our great nation, whose prosperity and freedom is not guaranteed, but depends on the people to protect and defend it.

Last night, I was as proud to be an American as I ever have been, and also ashamed of the Democrats who sat on their hands and hissed and booed at a vision of America that Nancy Pelosi was so offended by that at its conclusion, she tried to tear in half.

No he didn't. He did say something like 'the only thing done in DC that mattered was that which benefited the American people', but that was as close as he came to mentioning it.

Hush now, don’t distract them from their narrative.

Without so much as a nod towards balanced reporting, the media ignore that Trump also did not shake VP Pence’s hand, either.

Remember, the media lie if the day of the week ends in the letter ‘y’.

No speaker of the house in history has ever ignored decorum and tradition, by refusing to properly introduce The President of the United States. You heard what she said, what she did. And so did Americans of every political persuasion.

Stop making excuses for an inexcusable act by the leader of the House of Representatives.

I've been watching these SOU's since Reagan's first. You are right, the worst we ever saw before was Tip O'Neil scratching his nose with his middle finger. Last night was epic.

There was one time Nancy scratched her nose too, but I don't think it was the middle finger.

She did spend a lot of time pointing out someone in gallery, presumably to a sergeant of arms, to get the guy removed or 'taken care of'.

Dear Susan....

I have got to agree.  Trump's SOTU address last night just destroyed your chances of regaining the presidency this November, and seriously destroys your chances of retaining a majority of  the House.

I'll take that level of destruction any day.

Very true.  For a faction that so decries the acrimony of political discouse, this wench became that movement's poster child.

The Democrats as presently constituted are not interested in, or any longer supportive of "political discourse".

Instead, they are obsessed with de-legitimizing any political opposition.

That’s because the man was there as a guest of Nancy Pelosi, and she was desperately trying to squelch his outbreak before the camera took note of him, leaving her with egg on her face, again.

It was the botox that made Nancy rip up the speech.

Gee, lemme think. What could possibly be going wrong for the president of the United States?

Oh, I know!

Lies, deceit, betrayal, subterfuge, recriminations, acrimony, disloyalty, media attacks, phony impeachment charges all aimed at him from minute one of his presidency.

So, let’s blame Trump.

That's letting personal pique override the goal of re-electing Trump.

If people who previously criticized him are now willing to support him...why reject that or attack them?

Same reason they attack people who criticize Trump when he does something wrong and praise him when he does something right.

They are supposed to say good things about him and his Presidency no matter what.  Criticism is verboten.

The only thing destructive about Trump's magnificent SOTU speech was what it did to the Democrats' election strategy.   Because of the brilliant pivot Trump did last night, the Dems now -- perhaps belatedly -- reality that trying to win an election based on nothing more than "we hate Trump" will not work.

Because I’m sick of it. Three years into this phony outrage at TRUMP’S “behavior,” and on the day after he delivered a righteous beat down of those enemies of America in political garb IN CONGRESS (an act conservatives and republicans should cheer) I’m still seeing misdirected criticism at Trump! and not at the scoundrels who illegally and maliciously set Trump up for destruction! I’m in no mood to hear faint support for Trump from GOPers.

How would these principled conservative critics have responded to the constant incoming lies and phony charges, every day from every direction? Angry? Hurt? Frustrated? Presidential?

If anything, Trump has been too Presidential to suit me, too restrained in his actions and words.

Am I bitter? No, I'm not bitter. I'm just consumed by a gnawing hate eating away my gut until I can taste the bile in my mouth. Well, I guess I am a little bitter. Either that or I'm coming down with something. Does anyone have a mint?

My bet is.... we all share that particular affliction.   But not all of us allow our emotions to rule over that "feeling".   At least.... not here on the forum.   Most of us contain/restrain it.

Am I FTFU with the anti-Trump leftist lies/BS?    You betcha.   But despite the bleatings of their leftist media and their forum trolls ....

we're winning.

So instead of a mere mint, try one of these....
