What was supposed to be an announcement that Mark Assini would be running for Congress changed to be an announcement that he would not be. He received word Sunday that he would not be endorsed by county conservative party.

Earlier this month, Dr. James Maxwell, a neurosurgeon, announced his candidacy (https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/news/2018/01/12/james-maxwell-congress-louise-slaughter/1023906001/) to seek the Republican nomination, which would have set up a primary if Assini ran.

The Conservative Party endorsed Maxwell. However, Assini said it is to early for him to make an endorsement of Maxwell. He said he needs to learn more about the candidate.
