Steps can be taken to try to reduce your risk of infection from flu viruses.

Between 9.2 million and 35.6 million cases of flu arise each year in the United States.

Flu is responsible for around 140,000–710,000 hospitalizations and 12,000–56,000 deaths annually.

One of the best preventatives for me is being retired.  Until very recently, the weather around here has been nasty, so I didn't spend much time out in public.  Not being around sick people has prevented me from caching the flu.

Around here, it seems the flu has peaked, but it's still very much active.  As the weather improves, I will likely be out more.  With my luck, I'll catch the flu in April when the epidemic is almost over.

Same here. Apart from the grocery store and church, I'm not out much. I run like the wind whenever I hear someone coughing.
