Speculation amongst Buckingham Palace staff was rampant last night as the Queen’s most senior aides called her entire household to an emergency meeting today.
Servants from royal residences across the country have been ordered to London and will be addressed this morning by the Lord Chamberlain, the most senior officer of the Royal Household, as well as Her Majesty’s right-hand man, Private Secretary Sir Christopher Geidt.

The new PM met with the Queen earlier today (normal meeting).

This doesn't sound good. I know Prince Phillip hasn't been in good health.
But then again didn't she say something last year about stepping aside once she turned 90?
-
G-d bless the Queen.
I like her.
I hope Prince Philip is ok. Prayers up for both of them.
@EC, any word from across the pond?
-
We'll find out when she decides we are to find out. The Palace doesn't leak.
The BBC has nothing on it, which is itself an indication of something larger than normal.
It could be something fairly innocuous - the Order of the Garter ceremony on 19th June has had to be cancelled so Herself can swear in (or preferably at) the new parliament. That's something she's not going to be liking, she's never missed one, ever.

He was just out doing ribbon-cutting yesterday. But these things can be sudden.
But then again didn't she say something last year about stepping aside once she turned 90?
Sounds too sudden for merely stepping aside.

I'm praying all is well. Supposedly she saw the PM this morning and all was ok. I hope all is well with herself and hubby. G-d bless the Queen.

I'm staying up all night with this..to nervous to sleep.
And the fact Drudge has it up in red headline....scares me

It is almost 4AM there. I suspect it will be several hours after all the staff is informed of whatever before we hear anything, ie, get some sleep.
-
My speculation she may be abdicating pre-Brexit so that Charles can take the throne for that as both a symbolic change as well as to handle responsibility that may come with it. A young, strong ruler for a change to the UK. (OK, so most don't see Charles as strong so there is that plus she said she wouldn't abdicate, but many things have been changing quickly).
-
Or EC, per your knowledge, could she be making Charles Prince Regent?

Charles isn't young anymore either. But William is both... :pondering:

Well, remember they announced her grandfather died at about that time so he could make the morning papers.

I know what the meeting is about....

-
It's all over twitter that Prince Philip has passed.
I'm hoping this is not so.
It's coming from Australia.
-
Or EC, per your knowledge, could she be making Charles Prince Regent?
No real precedent for a Regent to a monarch who is legally able to carry out their duties. Not going to say impossible - it's not a word you use about Herself - but unlikely.
-
It's all over twitter that Prince Philip has passed.

Yep, that is blowing up all over twitter in the past five minutes.

He's 95. It's not like he is a young man and a family to support.
-
Now the French media is reporting that he has gone.
The Royal protocol says an official announcement will be made at 8 am GMT, in a tweet.
I guess we won't know the official word until then.
-
Flags being ordered half mast.
-
Geez. Looks like we are scooping Drudge on this breaking story.

Odd, nothing on CGTV yet. They are usually fast to break global news stories.
-
Well Prince Albert is in a can and now Prince Phillip is in a coffin.
-
-
Prince Phillip dead? Who is going to run Edinburgh Scotland now?
-
Now Buckingham has denied that either the Queen or Prince Philip has died.
http://www.newshub.co.nz/home/world/2017/05/buckingham-palace-denies-reports-prince-philip-queen-elizabeth-have-died.html

Glad to hear it seems both Phillip and Elizabeth are still with us.
-
Nothing is official until it has been officially denied.
-
It's a trick....
-
Geez. We'll know in 2 1/2 hours.
Damned instant gratification culture is contagious.

Fake News. I saw both of them on a recent episode of British Antiques Roadshow and you would be hard pressed to get either of them to fog a mirror.

Well while you are killing time finding out if someone died, could you fill me in why we are all using hot chick/dude avatars now?

Just realized. It's local election day for about half the country. That's going to be interesting.
-
Well while you are killing time finding out if someone died, could you fill me in why we are all using hot chick/dude avatars now?
You guys were all doing it, and I cracked under the peer pressure. Not that it's hard to look at Morena Baccarin every time I post.

Almost you persuade me to change to Jewel Staite.

Geez. We'll know in 2 1/2 hours.

I'll make a cuppa. It's going to be a long night. I'm afraid if it's true, surely HRH's heart will break? They've been married forever.
-
Russian hackers
Shit. You don't say. Putin is attacking TBR like it is the Ukraine.
Did someone give Comey a call to check this out? He is on top of that stuff like no ones business.
-
Almost you persuade me to change to Jewel Staite.
I think we all can enjoy Steampunk with great tracts of land.

I'm about the only other person who knew who your avatar was. Very obscure stuff. I also know the hot Russian spy chick for AbaraXas. I do not have any idea who the steam punk chick is that EC is using.

Almost you persuade me to change to Jewel Staite.
What you got there now is very persuadable, I must say.

Back on topic..
Speculation all over the place.
-
-
..and I'm out.. If anyone is up, you'll know in about 2 hours probably...
-
So since Prince Phillip is dead, does that mean that Prince Charles takes his place as the Queens husband?
I am a bit murky on the order of royal succession.

:tongue2:

Do not be bummed. He has had a good run, as has herself.
-
Do not be bummed. He has had a good run, as has herself.
Yes. But still, I can't help thinking her heart must be breaking. And he's been the consort since 1952. That's longer than most of us have been alive.
And I believe his family had all died, the last being Lord Mountbatten in the 70s so she was really his whole family, you know?
-
Do not be bummed. He has had a good run, as has herself.
Don't be so cavalier. He was in the prime of his life. Decades lay ahead of him. He leaves a son behind that is barely able to take care of himself on his own.
-
So since Prince Phillip is dead, does that mean that Prince Charles takes his place as the Queens husband?
No no no. That's not how it works at all.
I am a bit murky on the order of royal succession.
They have a new procedure ...

Timing is everything. Chances are if you had made it when Spiro Agnew was Vice President, you'd be okay.

08:00.
No announcement on the BBC. Main story is the rise in men being treated for anorexia / bulimia

The story is six weeks old, but maybe you will like it, it's about everything that must happen when she goes,

The Duke of Edinburgh is retiring from royal duties this autumn, Buckingham Palace has announced.
The decision was made by Prince Philip himself and is supported by the Queen, a palace spokesman said.
Prince Philip turns 96 next month.

He's not dead?
Yay! :cheerlead: :dancer:
He's an old man. Let him enjoy what ever time he has left.
Maybe he can play with the corgis or something, although I think she likes them. I see him more as a refined gentleman with big dogs. Not horses, that's Anne's and Zara's thing.
Thanks @EC

Oh, @EC

The county I grew up in was named after Charles I, and he was the monarch who gave my ancestors the Land Grant. Okay by me, at this point. If "Charles III" wants to give me land, I'd take it, too.
