Poll: Roy Moore leads Republican field to challenge Doug Jones

WASHINGTON — Former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore is leading the Republican field vying for the party’s 2020 nomination to challenge Sen. Doug Jones, the Democrat who beat Moore in 2017, according to a survey released Tuesday.
Moore leads among could-be GOP candidates with 27 percent in the poll from Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy, just a year and a half after losing what was widely viewed as a safe seat for Alabama Republicans. He's trailed by three Alabama congressmen: Mo Brooks at 18 percent, Bradley Byrne at 13, and Gary Palmer at 11. The poll also suggests Moore holds a net approval rating in the state — 34 percent of voters view him favorably compared to 29 percent who view him unfavorably.
Out of the potential Republican candidates included in the poll, only Byrne has formally announced his candidacy. But Moore has suggested that he is interested in running again, and this poll could help him come to a decision. Fifty percent of registered Alabama voters say they want to replace Jones with a Republican.

Definition of "Insanity" - Doing the same thing twice and expecting a different result.
-
People did not show up for Moore, to vote for him last time.
The left got the African Americans out in practically record numbers.
Doug Jones does not reflect Alabama values.
It could be different this time but Moore has to ingratiate himself with the people.
-
Please no.
If he cannot win statewide in Ala-flipping-Bama, he has no business running.

Maybe he'd do a mite better at the GOTV without the slanders and social media campaigns against him, ya think?
-
Good, looks like folks are pissed at what was done to Roy... and they ought to be.
In other news close to 90% of Doug Jones money came from out of state sources...
Someone said "doing the same thing and expecting a different result"... well this time Doug knows that he pulled a fast one and the same tricks will not work. He now runs ads that specify not to play in Alabama, but in liberal states like California for donations.

Folks here aren't real happy about out of state people telling us what to do. In fact, most folks resent meddling from elsewhere. If those ads get exposed in Alabama, they could backfire on Jones, I would think.
After all, it was meddling and money from elsewhere that got Jones in office.
-
Moore's widest lead among the potential candidates in the poll was recorded among women. Moore had the support of 31 percent of women.
Looks like some ladies are a little ticked at having the wool pulled over the eyes the last election.
Among the potential challengers, both Mo Brooks and Gary Palmer are good choices also... Byrne is a RINO...

What, you think Leigh Corfman and company are just going to go away?
Professional accusers never admit they're wrong and never shut up. Look at Michael Avenatti.

Great news @Sighlass! Please keep the reports coming!

Someone has to put a stop to this bullshit and it might as well be Roy Moore!

There has to be someone better than him

We put a stop to it when Brett Kavanaugh got confirmed. Moore had a chance to put a stop to it and failed.

Good! I hope he wins! The Swamp is scared to death of him!

Seems she has shut up, when pressed on which place she claims he took her to, she didn't know if it was a trailer (which he lived in while his home was being constructed) or a house and couldn't/wouldn't commit to either because she didn't know which one to claim. She couldn't say if it was a paved driveway or a gravel driveway. She claimed he had a TV and everyone that knew Moore knew he didn't have a TV back then. Her lawyers tried to get Moore to give them the information but he wouldn't and now they are stonewalling because they know if they guess wrong they are 100% proven liars.
So yeah, she has shut up for now.

Let's hope AL will be allowed to select their own candidates this time. 888mouth
-
Well, Alabama was always Democratic back in the day. Guess it will continue to be.
-
Hey how 'bout drafting Goober Sessions???
-
The accusers were largely discredited after the election and the Democrats tossed them away like tampons. Picking them back up is going to be tricky, especially after all the hoaxes and the Democrats having to abandon the #MeToo movement.

There may be some GOP options better skilled to fight back.
Moore is far from a safe bet, however.
-

May God save us, the people of Alabama refuse to listen to people from PA. **nononono*
-
That's been my contention all along.
It is up to the people of Alabama and only Alabama, to Elect who they want to represent them in the US Senate.

You're kidding yourself if you think the Dems are gonna stop with the smear tactics because Kavanaugh got put in office.
They'll just double down and try harder next time. And there will e a next time.
-
I'd like to see Moore get another go at it.
I think that this time, he would win easily.
If he does, Mr. Trump won't find a better friend in the Senate.
-
Good, looks like folks are pissed at what was done to Roy... and they ought to be.
Look at what they did to Michael Jackson and Bill Cosby. A constitution defender like Roy deserves some fresh and clean muff.
-
Michael Jackson was a perv but Bill Cosby was railroaded.

They may not admit jack, but they get exposed, even prosecuted.
I think the GOP voters of Alabama resent the hell out of being played by democrats and special interests from out of State. Wouldn't you?
Keep in mind they kept putting Moore back in office before the scandalies.
-
You're kidding yourself if you think the Dems are gonna stop with the smear tactics because Kavanaugh got put in office.
They'll just double down and try harder next time. And there will e a next time.
Yep! That's how they roll!

Didn't he lose two statewide elections before this?

They haven't tried it since.

I haven't offered a scintilla of advice to Republicans in Alabama. They will make their choices and live with the consequences. As will the rest of us, given the narrowness of the GOP majority in the Senate.
-
I haven't offered a scintilla of advice to Republicans in Alabama. They will make their choices and live with the consequences. But I'll say this - to the rest of the nation, Roy Moore is a complete joke.
Why? Because the media and the Washington elites have told you so? Do you actually KNOW Roy or anything about him that you haven't been purposefully fed? @Jazzhead
-
Nobody loves AL like a guy from Philadelphia, PA
Burn!
-
They haven't tried it since.
That's because there hasn't been a SCOTUS vacancy come up yet.
Dems don't ever...ever stop the smear campaigns. They just come up with sleazier and dirtier tactics.
Don't be so naive as to think that just because they aren't making noise they aren't planning something.
It's a false sense of security to think we've stopped the Libs from trying again.

Agreed. This will be trotted out again, just before the General Election if Moore wins the Primary.

Hello Jeff Sessions, you were a good Senator, how about one more time.

Lmao, Doug Jones is rubbing his hands together and yelling "PLEASE"
This is so 2019. It's perfect. *chef's kiss*

I agree, but as a Senator do you think Sessions might hold a grudge against Trump?

Last I heard (grapevine) was Sessions was just dang sick of politics and said he didn't care for it anymore. I don't blame him, he was treated about as well as some here treat Moore.

It’s a damn shame. 😩

Remember this is the same guy who said that America was attacked on 9/11 was a punishment by God. Also, he was a birther nut too as well.

I swear reality is turning inside out. TOS has a thread up about this, and on the first page there were only a couple of people who thought Moore should run.
-
Agreed. This will be trotted out again, just before the General Election if Moore wins the Primary.
For the sole reason that it worked against him.
Of course, that came with a LOT of help from a Republican Party that was more than eager to stab him in the back without providing an alternative. The GOP threw that race. The conservative press, other than Breitbart (which had already defiled itself), did an absolutely horrendous job discrediting the false claims, and acted like they didn't even want to do so. They let these con-women like Corfman dictate what truth was, without scrutiny... and rest assured, if they try and force Moore upon the country again, the left will pull this off again.
It's too late to turn back time. Moore's reputation has been ruined; like I said, he will have to find another, lower office to win to restore his reputation before he tries again. We need a fresh face, someone capable of fighting back—and we need to protect him (or her) at all costs.
THIS IS NOT A SEAT WE CAN AFFORD TO THROW AWAY ON A GRUDGE.

I’m running because I know what it’s going to take to win this race. Alabama deserves a U.S. Senator who shares our conservative values-and you can bet I’ll FIGHT for them in Washington. Join #TeamTommy Today!

Odd I seem to remember TOS purging true conservatives... perhaps I am not remembering correctly /s
Who do you support for the position? Of those that have claimed to be running? Tommy Tuberville? He has no political voting record, has never ran for office He was the former Auburn coach.... Perhaps Bradley Roberts Byrne who has a GOPe voting record...
It is funny how most locally pushing against Moore have such low conservative ratings. But they are in great standing in the GOP party circles. Another RINO is Mayor Tommy Battle of Huntsville... probable the most liberal conservatives in the race...
Again, just who do you think is a great candidate (that has declared)

@Sighlass
I don’t live in Alabama, so “support†wouldn’t be the exact term I’d use. I have no idea who else is running & don’t know anything about Tommy Tuberville.

Remember this is the same guy who said that America was attacked on 9/11 was a punishment by God. Also, he was a birther nut too as well.
Yep, Moore talked about lots of things that day at church (The whole hour is up on YouTube) and did reference past Biblical events of turning from God to destruction of a nation (wall of the Pentagon being like walls of Israel town that were destroyed)....
"Because you have despised His word and trust in perverseness and oppression, and say thereon ... therefore this iniquity will be to you as a breach ready to fall, swell out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instance,'" Moore said, quoting Isaiah 30:12-13. Then he added: "Sounds a little bit like the Pentagon, whose breaking came suddenly at an instance, doesn't it?"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5jFhRwoijc (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5jFhRwoijc)
He also said any candidate for President should present their birth certificate to each state before being allowed to run for the office.
I found nothing wrong with both statements. You might..

Ha Ha HA
The GOP already did, once. If the people of Alabama decide they want Moore, then the Republican Party better get behind him and do a decent job of it, or they'll throw it away again.
Isn't that the sort of thing everyone said about Trump? Get on the train, yadda yadda yadda.
